Col. Faulkner 0 Posted August 31, 2007 HiYes our DNS/FTP is undergoing some change, and we will be "offline" for a few days, nothing longer we hope. Sorry for the inconvenience. @ukr-man - As real as we can get them Well let's hope that goes better than the NI mod website's "downtime"!
smiley nick 51 Posted August 31, 2007 I told my daughter that I thought she might be able to play with dinosaurs one day for this game(after watching the Jurassic park movies) so now you have a 7 year old waiting too. Â Funny you should say that, with the recent thread regarding children playing arma for what ever reason, walking, driving, exploring, we are also aiming for the younger audience for all you arma parents. It was going to be a bit of a side project but we are developing a small "educational" based experience aimed for the younger audience. Being able to explore and find out about dinosaurs. Walk up to them; see them, without fear of attack. We are just waiting for our mysql database to be transferred and we will be back up and running. Col. Faulkner 0 Posted August 31, 2007 You seem to continually come up with new "features". Will the dinosaurs be able to dance and sing and tell jokes too?
smiley nick 51 Posted August 31, 2007 You seem to continually come up with new "features". Will the dinosaurs be able to dance and sing and tell jokes too? It’s not really a feature at all, its one of many game play options we have to play with. The concept will really consist of some basic dialog information and voiceovers, built into a simple free roaming mission with the eco system running in the background. No the dinosaurs won’t be able to dance or make jokes. This isn’t Barney
opteryx 1562 Posted September 16, 2007 Is it true what I'm hearing from ArmedAssault.eu? Quote[/b] ] Rumours about 'the lost world returns'Written by jerryhopper, on Friday, 14 September 2007 In the secret labatory at INGEN, a shocking discovery has been announced. Lost World Returns might be showcaseing its work in a new open source engine, and leaving behind the modding sceen for a payware game engine for future development. This is all rumour, but how much truth does it hold? You shall know soon enough. http://www.lostworldreturns.co.uk What does this mean exactly?
nastros 0 Posted September 16, 2007 wow that doesnt sound good
Dwarden 1125 Posted September 16, 2007 hmm there is limited number of 'next gen' quality open source engines ... anyway i wish LWR team lot of luck in standalone game venture
BraTTy 0 Posted September 16, 2007 I can't wait for the dinos either. Will we be able to ride them? lol I have children too, maybe when the dinosaurs are set to captive mode they won't be violent.
smiley nick 51 Posted September 16, 2007 I think its time I updated this topic I’m not 100% sure where this rumour came from; however it does hold 'some' truth. We are still desperately waiting for the Maya Mel scripts from BIS to help port over all our created Maya animations and rigs into o2, including the skinned mesh exporter, that’s what we really need. BIS have kept quite about it for some time, however we where fortunate enough to get a reply from Maruk regarding the subject. His reply was quite a basic one, stating "Not sure at the moment. I understand the importance for you so let me see." So fingers crossed that we will see the plug-in. Granted its not your average ‘required’ modder tool needed for ArmA add-on creation, but a modification like us, gives it a make or break situation I’m afraid. If we do not see the skinned meshed export plug-in and the Maya Mel scripts released to we would have to reconsider our position in the community, due to obvious reasons, no progression! I hope that doesn’t sound selfish in either way, but like everyone else in the community we have spend equally as much on the project, including a lot out of the public eye. There are plenty of open source engines out there, all reasonably priced, and a lot of "unknown" ones. Open source is definitely a viable option for us and it’s on the cards. We have a great team, and work very well together; there is no reason at all why we cannot grow into an internet based developer. We would be sticking to the "dinosaur" theme still, but this is slightly off topic and in a different ball park. As for the website, we are with a new host now, and its up and running, having some minor problems with our forum skins so the default VB skin is up and running. jasono 0 Posted September 16, 2007 I see why your considering it, and I don't mind what you do at all. You've got a lot of progress so far, it would be a shame to just give up on it because it is impossible to put into ArmA. I do hope you get another reply from BIS with the information you want to hear. Good luck with the progression of Lost World Mod

Bracken 0 Posted September 17, 2007 This mod did all ways seem abit 'big' for Arma. Don't get me wrong, I really hope you get the scripts you need, but if you do go open source you can count on atleast one copy being sold
simba 0 Posted September 17, 2007 really hope BIS helps you, wildlife is really missing in Arma and your dinausors are just awesome.
Dracul 0 Posted September 19, 2007 Quote[/b] ]It’s not really a feature at all, its one of many game play options we have to play with. The concept will really consist of some basic dialog information and voiceovers, built into a simple free roaming mission with the eco system running in the background. Actually, there is a great possiblity for the education system - not just for the younger audience. We have a great diversity of species - at least 2 different specimen for each of the 5 main big groups. So, there is many potential to discuss without having a M4 packed with you The interactive system of videogames is the big difference to the BBC shows, you are in the middle of the show! Things we can show in a educationbased game option are the different social behaviours of the animals, sexual dimorphism in nature, convergent evolution, ecology, continental drift, evolution on islands, (natural) history of earth - e.g. the visualisation of the big time dimension (For most of you dimensions like 60 million years are just words ) and ofcourse modern dinosaurs: the becoming of the birds So stay tuned

wolfsblut_ 0 Posted October 13, 2007 Hmm, may I ask that if these sounds are going to be in LWR? IMO the sound-scenery is overdone. Hollywood yes, but dont become childish and overegg the pudding. 2 clips to show what you hear if you are realy in the jungle (1978, Amazonas, Stereo): Birds talking (3 MB): http://files.filefront.com/Amazona....fo.html At a hidden brunch of the amazonas (1,8MB) http://files.filefront.com/At+a+hi....fo.html
smiley nick 51 Posted October 13, 2007 The sound system will work in real time with the species and various objects placed. There wont be any looping sound tracks, all sounds will originate from a physical source. That way, when you hear a sound, it will have a destination. As for the sound fx itself, we wont have any JP sounds, they will be created from scratch. Hope that helps
simba 0 Posted October 13, 2007 BBC series "walking with dinausors" could be a good source of inspiration for sounds, anims and textures.
