no gun is perfectly still while supported if handled by a human being. your breathing, muscle fatigue and even your focus (thinking of pulling the trigger causes other muscles to relax or can make some persons tense up) will make the weapon move.

only way to get rid of this is to get rid of the human being at the safe end of the rifle.

that said, when prone supported (using bipod) any horizontal sway should be markedly less but still there. after all you still have to line the weapon up by moving the stock to aim.

which means there's a good chance those are not bugs but instead are features you'd expect in a military simulation.

.

I know, I am a competitive long range & pistol shooter myself.

With bipod, the weapon sway is not random, it is an up-down movement with minimal sway, if any.

Using a sand-filled sock under the stock helps to reduce "human aiming errors". Wearing gloves helps, too.

If they already copied the America's Army-style bootcamp, they could use the breathing too. Which makes more sense with holding the breath to extend the natural respiration pause.

However, the sway while moving is unnatural. IRL I can keep the rifle on target unless I start running. They should dampen the weapon movement, I get sea-sick with that wobbling optical gunsight.

The zoom is another issue. Not a bug, though. I don't want to spread my thoughts over more than one thread, so I will mention this here. The common "focus on sight's" is bullsht. Actually, you loose any 3D vision and the target would be blurred. With optical gunsights, however, you keep a crisp sight picture and reticle. No mystical zooming-in on the target, even with concentration. There are some games with good implementations of such sights.

The head will move more than the weapon/sight. I don't know how this is solved in ArmA / OFP. Any chance this can be changed?

Following some of the other users' suggestions, I took the liberty to add a Bug List containing most of the reports in this thread to the Community Wiki:

http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Armed_Assault:_Bugs_List

If you would like to contribute to this initiative, please take a moment to add your report. Also, in order to keep the list clean, please try to report actual bugs instead of wishful features.

Let's try to help the devs create a (nearly) flawless experience. Thank you in advance for your help smile_o.gif

To submit bugs in a method that is actually usable for us you need something like:

Version

Description

Reproduction

Occurance

Comments

Here's an example:

Quote[/b] ]Version:

0.14.0.5016

Description:

Grass clumps floating in mid air..

Reproduction:

Location GI56

Occurance:

only seen it in that location.. so far.

Comments:

Only noticed it when I went prone. when standing it is hard to spot.

I've found a bug around the training facility:

harlequin_adult.jpgwhistle.gif

No, for real:

Version: Czech Stock

Bug: It doesnt safe ANYTHING, no video/control/sound setting, no mission/safe/whatever setting. It only remembers the profile name.

Comments: I Noticed that there is no profile directory created in my arma root directory. Instead i have 2 new arma directory's in my My Documents, which is on active directory synchronisation. Those 2 directory's are: "Arma" and "Arma Other Profiles". Within Arma there have been created a directory which is called "Saved" which contains some directory's which name end up being my mission's i played, but no file exists in that directory. In the Other profile directory there is my other profile, which constains the same directory structure and no files. Note: My Arma is installed on D:\Games\Armed Assault\

System: Windows XP SP2 loggin on to Windows 2000 Active directory which is working fine.

AMD64 3200+ GFX: Nvdia 6800LE

Trucks do not trigger mines, which is odd, since they are heavy enough.

But I have to admit, I am really happy about ArmA as it is now. Even with those annoying bugs, it is waaaay better than OFP.

Hehe, i think placebo is trying to blame the reporter's and not the system tounge2.gif j/k bud.

Anywho... Playing today the campaign mission in which you escort 2 blackhawk's to a base, then help defend it in the choppers (main battle i think its called) I noticed the first time i played it all was well (except i crashed into the ground, havent mastered these choppers yet... icon_rolleyes.gif ), but after the auto save, when i fired missles, the no longer flew towards the targets, but instead flew way off course, then tryed to turn back onto the targets... i tryed long range, short range, making sure the line of fire was unobstructed, manual fire, i've tryed all i can think of... Usually the first missle off the rack fly's true and hits, but the other suffer...

Anyone else had this issue ? this little bug DOES effect game play...

AimPoint: Looks like some occluding problems from clipping. You wouldn't happen to be "inside" any objects in that 3rd person view?

-and C'mon, guys. Placebo gave the format for bug submitting just posts ago. Use it. tounge2.gif

Err, trucks do trigger mines. Just tested...

Really? I was able detonate mine only with armored class vehicles... tested numerous times. Mines even seems to be "magnetic", exploding in proximity of the armored vehicle. Probably the reason, why they arent doing too big damage.

I have spotted that helicopter dissapearing trick from some other videos also. So I suppose it's not that rare...

it has probably been posted before, but I just wanted to report that I'm getting MASSIVE graphic-bugs aside from the poor performance problem of the german version.

A lot of the texture of the game are simply not loaded, sometimes only lowres (midmaps?) textures are loaded sometimes the normalmap is rendered, but the diffusemap is missing.

Another issue are wrong model LODs - as you can see on the screenshot the LOD of the APC in the background is totally out of place for this kind of distance, same problem with cars, trees etc.

texture bug, editor mission

These issues remind me a lot of the reported bugs of a czech online gaming magazine, so I assume it's not a problem of the german version - seems to be rather an engine issue!

These bugs appear on any kind of visual quality settings of the game - from very low to high!

My system specs are:

Asus A8V Deluxe

AMD Athlon 64 3500+

1024mb ram

GeForce 6800 (128mb)

Windows XP SP2

Go for a better gfx card with at least 256 MB and some more RAM couldn´t hurt aswell.

I second that. But still, at very low settings (800x600) his 6800 should be able to display the game with all the right textures loaded. New driver perhaps? Maybe the readme contains information with which version of drivers it was tested with. I'd try them first, but you need a new graphics card, asap! Then the RAM.

sry but that's bullshit!

The engine doesn't load textures, doesn't load the correct LODs, doesn't load the correct midmaps - and this on all available graphic-settings. If my system wouldn't be able to handle the amount of textures (even on very low settings which is bullshit) I would rather get a slide show (very low FPS ~1) than have missing textures in the game.

My system can handle any other state of the art game without problems at medium-high settings - when my graphic-card isn't able to handle the texture-sizes I simply get a massive FPS drop-down when moving the camera around.

You're also not able to explain wrong LODs with a lack of graphics memory.

I think the LOD and texture issue are pretty much of the same origin - the engine loads wrong LODs along with wrong midmaps - these midmaps are extremely lowres, like on the dead soldier, the walls and the trees - so they would actually only be used when you are really far away. So as I said before I think it's rather an engine issue than my hardware, drivers (which are all up-to-date) or game-version.

btw People on a german board with a X1900XT report similar issues..........

btw People on a german board with a X1900XT report similar issues..........

There is a well known problem with the CP of the german version that is making Arma perform very bad (the problem is being fixed and a hotfix from Morphicon should arrive shortly). Its obvious that if someone with a 7900GT card reported 19/20 FPS something is wrong... and on less powerfull HW the effects will be more noticeable.

So the hardware is under extra load, now what happens to the game when the system is under stress? It scales down to lowest resolution lods, objects might even disapear... its normal.

Your setup seems ok, i would wait for the hotfix before slamming the game code, read the forum...

Is it possible to run ArmA with a Geforce FX 5600?

Somehow I can't.

I tried 7 different drivers so far but the game does not start.

It's not becouse of german version I'm sure. I've got exactly the same problem with czech edition but what's interesting it seems to appear only during the campaige. Rest of the single player missons look suprisingly normal... . Oh and I'm also the user of gf 6800 (128MB). So maybe that's the reason?

You're right, I'm not. But engine issue or not, if it does not happen on all machines you cannot totally rule out some hardware/driver conflict as well, imo. The issue better not rears it's ugly head on my X1900XT, though wink_o.gif

It's possible in theory but frankly I wouldnt bother. It will be simply fugly and unplayable with that GFX adapter.
