Zander 0 Posted March 19, 2006 as you saw in ofp tracers are a hard thing to mod, so is there any chance to see some improvements in arma. Imo ofp tracers were horrible, i hope BIS will do something about this for arma, it should not be that hard, in americas army for exemple tracers look very good or maybe BIS should just look at some real footage to see how looks like real tracers. rundll.exe 12 Posted March 19, 2006 yeah, sometimes you can see the bullet path "bend" in OFP (tank MG e.g.) thatlooks horrible, and it makes it hard to aim.
jammydodger 0 Posted March 19, 2006 Read orchestra that has just been released over steam has some very good tracer effects, they even bounce off things. Would be good if Arma could incorporate something like this.
grayace 2 Posted March 19, 2006 Joint Operations have also some vivid tracers, here is a sample, (reds for Friendly, yellow for Enemy, whites for grenade launchers) Tracers of Joint Ops by the way these tracers are reflecting/refracting over water, but since helicopter was flying high during I took this SS so its not visible... -kelet0r 0 Posted March 19, 2006 Day of Defeat incorporated tracers very early on so it is not a new thing if i recall though OpF had trouble with all sorts of non solid rendering (eg problems with laser designation) so if Arma is on the same basic engine it may sadly not be possible here's to hoping anyway
Scrub 0 Posted March 19, 2006 IIRC, tracers will be in ArmA. Hope they modled them off of Bn880's, those were the BEST.. IMHO of course
strango 5 Posted March 19, 2006 Take a look at the tracers in the WGL mod to see what OFP is capable of.
RUKH 0 Posted March 20, 2006 I hope the AA tracers will: Bounce Glow and be alot more visible than they are currently Be short (video captured tracers are long because of shutter times)
NeMeSiS 11 Posted March 20, 2006 I thought some said that there were tracers in OFP:E (wich bounced correctly of buildings etc), anyone can confirm this?
Guest Ti0n3r Posted March 20, 2006 The best thing with the tracers in ArmA is that they won't be green anymore. (OfpE) Edéáté: If you havent seen it yet, take look at this video by maxqubit. That's what they might look like in ArmA.
4 IN 1 0 Posted March 20, 2006 Bn880's is too ball like, would be good if it is a bit more silm
Dynamax 0 Posted March 20, 2006 you people are on crack!.. OFP tracers are better then any game that i have seen. have any of you seen REAL tracers? i have.. and guess what. they are not big bright laser like beems, much less glowing sphears of plasma. tracers are barely visable during a sunny day, and most visable at night (thats a given). tracers are small (the size of the diameter of the projectile) and are not bright enough to light up the landscape. maybe some people are getting confused with the tracers from larger caliber projectiles. like the rounds off an M2A2, or even Anti-Air rounds from Shilkas. these rounds are largers and thus brighter tracers. i can post up many videos showing exactly what tracers should look like, but they are too explicit and would have this topic closed. funnyguy1 0 Posted March 20, 2006 Well, that`s right, those TOWS and AA guns are shining too much at night. I mean, it shouldn`t make that amount of light sorrounding it (flying missiles, or firing AA). I would like to see some fights at night with proper tracers and lightning caused by missiles, I hope they went off this `light ball/aura` thingy...
max power 21 Posted March 20, 2006 Well, from a side aspect, I think that bn880's traners are oblong.. but anyways, the ball-like aspect of those tracers is for the same thing that those huge, white bilboard textures that simulate light flashes and rocket motors are for... to emulate what HDR is trying to do with all its bloom effects and such... simulate the effect of very bright lights on the human eye. Now, you can't really do that in a dynamic way with OFP, so you sort of have to fake it. All in all I think that the original tracers are good, and the bnn880s are good for different reasons. The possibilities are endless with HDR, though. You could actually have something that's barely visible in the full sunlight bit F-off bright at night. InqWiper 0 Posted March 20, 2006 I dont know which tracers are more realistic, OFPs or bn880s. I really like bns tracers more though. Americas Armys tracers are complete shit. Looks like lightbulbs flying across the battlefield and iirc they are too slow. Here is a video where you can see some tracers in action: http://67.19.106.107/gun.wmv The tracers may look longer in the video than they do IRL because (I assume) the FPS on the camera is less than a human eye. Some pictures of tracers at inqwiper.sphosting.com tracers1, tracers2 and tracers3.
cozza 24 Posted March 21, 2006 fucking amazing. People can buy miniguns in the US.
thrush213 0 Posted March 21, 2006 there's certain aspects of ofp1 tracers that i really liked...as it resembled real life tracers like the speed. it appeared very fast.
max power 21 Posted March 21, 2006 Haha. I love the cheesy sound effects... or maybe that's just the kickdrum of the metal music. At any rate, it's about 1/4 the actual rate of fire. I don't know if private citizens can own gattling guns in the US. I think maybe, but that wasn't one of them. What you were looking at there was a military vehicle, probably on loan for the purposes of the show. The US military uses black suburbans. Monster Garage had all sorts of military stuff on there. Another time he failed he had the machine run over by an APC, IIRC.
InqWiper 0 Posted March 21, 2006 Afaik you are allowed to own a minigun in some state(s). Ive seen videos of people firing miniguns, browning .50, grenadelaunchers and small cannons. Sometimes I feel like I need to go there on a vacation
Dynamax 0 Posted March 21, 2006 ... 30.cal minigun = larger/brighter tracers. the tracers in that video are bigger then what one would see with any 22.cal-5.56mm assault rifle or LMG (M249)
max power 21 Posted March 21, 2006 I think we can all agree that it's a minigun. I don't know of the xm214 microgun is still experimental, but I don't think that it's in common circulation. I think that you won't really see realistic tracers until you have real time motion blur... but also, very realistic tracers would be hard to see on the screen, what, with the pathetic display definition/size compared to the human eye. sputnik monroe 102 Posted March 21, 2006 A minigun is a bad example for what tracers look like. The rate of fire is insane, even if there is only a tracer every 10th round it'll look like a laser gun shooting. The rate of fire is literally in the thousands on those things. JdB 151 Posted March 21, 2006 As long as they fix the ''every bullet is a tracer'' issue, then I'm happy.

It's the perfect example of what tracers look like, but a bad example of their frequency It just allows you to see what lots of tracers look like.. so you can see them bounce or breakup or whatever they do when they hit what they hit. That's what they might look like in ArmA. Green tracers may not be as silly as they seem. I've read an article somewhere before that said that the Russians did indeed use green tracers in their ammunition. When I saw the AKs shooting green in OFP I thought it was pretty nifty. Oh wait, here's a cool wiki article on the subject. Apparently the green light is produced by barium salts. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tracer_ammunition
