Blake 0 Posted January 21, 2006 I did like Raven Shield but somehow the magic of Rainbow Six and Raven Shield was gone...I'm still puzzled why but that's the way it is for me. Maybe I will have to give it another go (OFP probably had too much spoiling effect for me at the time). There somehow was no 'catch' that made you craft meticulous assault plans on finishing the objective. I enjoyed Swat 4 a bit more than RvS. oh forgot: This was about lockdown of course, but based on these comments i definately won't bother to download it. I want to keep my R6/RS memories intact
Heatseeker 0 Posted January 21, 2006 Try the demo, it will make you cry and laugh simultaniously, the voice acting lines and accents, the lipstick/makeup wearing R6 babes, its sad and funny but in the end.. .
EiZei 0 Posted January 21, 2006 the lipstick/makeup wearing R6 babes I can see how that would work out in reality.. "Gold 2, you are authorized to fire upon enemy targets, go go go!" "Uhh, negative on that command." "Gold 2, say again" "I uhh.. well.. I got some mascara on my scope." "..."
krycek 349 Posted January 21, 2006 Actually I had a lot of respect for Ubi and RSE but after trying the Lockdown demo I would say "these guys are really hardcore idiots". Why fix something that wasn't broken in the first place and what idiot decided to screw the fans?!!Afterall their main fanbase were the people who liked realistic fps,not some candy eye run and gun game, remove that fanbase and what succes they expect with this Lockdown crap. Let's see, they removed the planning, multiple teams, team selection, the hud is a joke with the new ammunition display and they added nice graphics,3d iron sights and some very "challenging" levels where all you have to do is run 20 meters from point A to B and voila,an loading screen appears and after that another small level to run and gun.Not to mention that in demo you face about 50-60 terrorists, you kill 3 of them and their bodies dissapear and after that 4 more are spawning,WTF is this, Quake 3 with nice guns??Oh,and these terrorist must be a big and happy family of clones since I only saw about 3-4 different skins on those 50 guys. And for attracting the kids, now your teammates are way to cool in their outfits to cover their faces, because the next day half of the world and their dog will know who stormed that embassy.I'm surprised they didn't removed the helmets because hey it's an impediment for the hair styles of your team members. Anyway,I've done playing that crap demo(must be a nightmare but I can't get up),I was really bored after one of the females from the team was screaming the seventh time "I'm hit!!",hmm must be some cousin with terminator. I also went to their forums and saw that most of the people were dissapointed to say at least(not surprising). The next step for Ubi will be to equip Sam Fisher with an rocket launcher and a minigun, stealth is for pussies. Spoock 3 Posted January 21, 2006 Lockdown is suck!! I like Ravenshield and his realism Lockdown did regression I have pry on The Regiment from Konami
Sniperwolf572 758 Posted January 21, 2006 I agree, letdown, major letdown. *Tries to find his RvS/SWAT4 discs to ease the sickness/comedy effect*
BlackScorpion 0 Posted January 21, 2006 Haven't tested it yet, and I'm getting quite doubtful about it. But to add even more to the stupidness, I remember from an old review (console Lockdown?), they mentioned that the enemy are anti-globalisation activists or something like that, I mean that they actually want the same things that the recent Live8 concert was held for... Not sure though. As said, looks sweet, but graphics are way below gameplay when judging a game. I'll stick to Athena Sword.
Daniel 0 Posted January 21, 2006 Yeah, I might have read the same review. It was for the console versions too. It said the terrorists were attempting to persuade rich countries to free "Third World" countries of debt. Damn those evil terrorists! How dare they attempt to do good! BlackScorpion 0 Posted January 21, 2006 Exactly. I really wonder what's moving in Red Storm Entertainment's people's heads... peasoup? If I want to have a mindless shootout, I'll just use callterro command in R6:3. Target practise!
shadow 6 Posted January 21, 2006 I'll stick to Athena Sword. Most of my favourite maps are in Iron Wrath (free expansion pack from Ubi). 6 new weapons and around 15 new maps (7-map campaign + mp-maps). Iron Wrath automatically patches RvS to 1.60 and AS to 1.11 (the last patches). Just fill out the form and submit to get your cd-key and download  (1GB). I have a RvS, AS and IW dedi-server set up with all coop-maps, just standing there. If anyone is interested we can get some real R6 coop games going.
BlackScorpion 0 Posted January 22, 2006 Thanks. I searched for alternative download for about 20 mins before I noticed that Gamespy account is OK, too . But had to cease the d/l process because of the queuing and the download size... damn americanas and only few fileplanet servers... Maybe I'll join your coops some day, I just need to find my RvS cd-key first... Mmmm... Jackhammer... this is gonna be fun!
sputnik monroe 102 Posted January 22, 2006 Wow... I'm almost speechless after reading how bad it is. Rainbow Six is dead. As for Raven Shield, it just lacked the soul of Rogue spear for me. There are parts of it that are superior to Rogue Spear, yet for each of those features they seemed to have ditched or left out a feature from Urban Operations. Sanctuary gave a prime example when he mentioned the removal of the num pad orders from Urban Operations. I also faced that problem all through Raven Shield where I kept wanting to hit num pad "7" to say "Cover this area" or the other options like, "Defend this position". I didn't understand why in Raven shield every operative was a clone in game. In Rogue Spear each character model had it's own respective face and height in game. I mean who can ever forget that giant Russian guy who had to duck through some doors heh heh. One of the memories I will always miss now that Rainbow Six is dead is the real world atmosphere to the missions. I remember in Rogue Spear when a mission would start the sounds you would here would be the rattle of an air conditioner, the sound of distant city traffic and car horns, steam hissing from a man hole cover. It created such a believable realistic environment it just sucked you in. Now I'm sure all that has been replaced or drowned out by a blaring Hollywood style sound track. To sum it up, when I played Rogue Spear I felt like I was playing a Janes Defense Weekly or arms and weapons of the world type library reference book, non fiction. The new games are just Jean Claude Van Dam, Vin Diesel flicks. I'll pass.
Blake 0 Posted January 22, 2006 Hacienda, Oil Rig, Embassy, Dam, Mansion, Skyscraper, Militia Camp...The Met, Kosovo, 737, Winter mansion, research facilities, US congress etc etc. How can we ever forget those atmospheric levels in Rainbow Six and Rogue Spear plus urban ops...Opera House,Metro stations, Bazaars...Pure classics. They really had very solid real-life feeling. UBI should releasing a gold version of them or something instead of putting out arcade shooters.
shadow 6 Posted January 22, 2006 Many of the old classics have been re-released by Ubi in RvS, AS and IW. But my favourites are the new ones in IW (especially the university, 1st campaign map). Then there's all the community made re-makes of the classics.
Blake 0 Posted January 22, 2006 I don't mean just the maps but a whole game with proper briefings and characters...
FJ{05} 0 Posted January 22, 2006 They think its all over, It is now. Im gonna reinstall RvS and re-read the Rainbow six novel.
BlackScorpion 0 Posted January 22, 2006 Yeah, the novel was pretty good. Read it about 2 times (2nd time not-so-perfectly). Less than 10 minutes to go on Iron Wrath d/l... Hmmm... maybe I'll re-install Black Thorn. For those who don't know what it is, it's a stand-alone mission pack for Rogue Spear. Doesn't have Jumbo map or blood though, unlike explained in manual... jtec 0 Posted January 22, 2006 Its looking so much better for armed assault with all these tactical/simulations doing so poor (not saying armed assault needs help for sales) just that it will boost sales. Really think due to the fact you guys have played flashpoint, nothing is really going to beat the gameplay (i know i havent found anything better yet) Games companies have covered everything they can now and its just repetative crap they are throwing out with the thought "if it aint broke dont fix it" Maybe its time for gamers to gather and say enough is enough and we will not pay for the same rubbish each year. Has anyone already set up a webby that is petitioning to change the way the game industry is going?. By the way the demo stinks
JdB 151 Posted January 22, 2006 Maybe its time for gamers to gather and say enough is enough and we will not pay for the same rubbish each year. Sadly 13 year old kiddies DO keep paying for the same rubbish every year, so that nothing will change as the managers will still see the truckloads of money rolling in. THAT needs to change before they will even think about making good games again.

Really think due to the fact you guys have played flashpoint, nothing is really going to beat the gameplay (i know i havent found anything better yet)  ArmA doesn't need any publicity,it will be a success, but for me all this tactical shooters doing so poor it's a very bad thing.Because it means that isn't any competition anymore and you'll see more of these so called tactical shooters made especially for kids.Except BIS with Ofp and Pandemic Studios with their FSW,Ubi was pretty much the only one who made not perfect but very good tactical shooters with their first RS,Rogue Spear,Raven Shield and Ghost Recon 1 games. After playing the Lockdown demo it appears they've changed their view on tactical games wich finally is bad for us,it was already an very small market of simulation games and now will be even smaller. About the "no other game still haven't beat Ofp gameplay" that's very true but that doesn't mean we shouldn't play anything else. I still play and enjoy other tactical fps like Swat 3,Rogue Spear and older titles.
jtec 0 Posted January 22, 2006 Noticed all the games you said are old games. Im betting there is alot of players out there that are playing games that are older then 5 years also. Infact the only game i have bought since ofp has been Raven sheild and that was utter crap and the only reason i bought it was due to the rest of my clan having it. (I dint buy it come to think about it, it was bought for me :S)

Quote[/b] ]Im betting there is alot of players out there that are playing games that are older then 5 years also. That's an interesting point. Since i have OFP, i never bought any tactical shooters. Despite i always liked this category of videogame, and always have Swat 3, Ghost Recon installed and play them (and sometime i even re-install Rogue Spear when nostalgia kicks in) , i never felt the "need" of having something new. Especially after having been -very- disapointed each time by each demo of newer tactical shooters, as i always notice that out of the additional new "eyes candies" they are being always inferior to what i already had and like. krycek 349 Posted January 22, 2006 Yeah most of the good tactical fps are old but I also like Swat4 and Raven Shield and I always give a chance to newer tactical games, afterall I believe this market must be encouraged to grow.Of course there are exceptions, for example when Ubi decides to put this Lockdown crap thinking they could fool us. I assume that Ghost Recon 2 was cancelled on pc because it was also crappy, let's hope that Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter won't end up into another Rambo game although I have my doubts. sander 14 Posted January 23, 2006 Hi, A quality game that relies on gameplay rather than looks does not lose its appeal with the passing of the years. OFP, Rogue Spear/Urban Operations, Ghost Recon, SWAT3 and Hidden & Dangerous all have outlived other newer games on my PC. The Lockdown demo has been installed and uninstalled after a brief trial, it just does not live up to the standard set by earlier installments of Rainbow Six. Regards, Sander

I have to agree with that although some technical limitations present in the old classics do turn people off (like GR's infamous poor a.i.). I can deal with the not so great graphics because we can push all details and resolution to the max and it still looks ok . Im confident that regarding PC a remake of GR would sell better than that GRAW thing their coming up, rebuilding the game on a new graphics engine with improved a.i., some air support flying around and stuff like that would be a very smart move, but thats why ubi isnt doing it .
