Truely an awesome map, but it has some major problems. I don't know if it's just me, but (as said in the readme) some bunkers and stuff have fire and geo lod problems. Also the ruins seem to have a geo lod problem, along with the great looking watchtower. The good thing is, that Thone2000 allowed anyone to edit the stuff, so maybe we can see an update made by someone in the near future? wink_o.gif This is definitely a keeper, it will stay on my HD.

+: Great terrain and lots of atmosphere, very precisely done.

-: Significantly decreases performance, I guess that wiser use of objects (or their optimization) would make no difference in island's awesome look, but it would not harm FPS that much...

The island lags for me bigtime , thats all i know and its impossible to play on it without doing 1-2 FPS crazy_o.gif .

my fps is good with this island my fps is 20/30 wink_o.gif

only problems is fire/geo lod problems and on the small birdge it has and the end middle roadway problems.

Tested it only on my old computer with specs:

AMD Athlon 2600

1024DDR Ram

Geforce 5700

FPS 20/30

My other computer specs:

AMD Athlon 3600 64bit

2048DDR

Geforce 6800

I have no OFP installed on my new computer yet so not tested on the new one think FPS would be better on this machine.

My OFP setup

1024x768x32

Benchmark 5067

Most textures set to 512x512 & 1024x1024

That explains it .... my PC is crap compared to yours sad_o.gif .

A geforce 440mx (effectively a geforce 2) is no match for your cards plus only 512 RAM and 2.4 Ghz.

new version is nice, but i have some mixed feelings:

positive: lot of new stuff, much bigger now, new objects, etc.

negative, lost some old stuff, old jungle trees were better (more variety) some laggy areas, no forest blocks ( crazy_o.gif )

if you decrease your viewdistance down your performance will get better think normally OFP has settings at 900 try to lowe it down to 200/300 and see if that helps wink_o.gif

Actually I'm glad that they are removed, those forest blocks caused extreme lag.

My OFP can only go to 500 viewdistance Minimum crazy_o.gif . Or maybe 200 or less can be done viathe setviewdistance command ?

Can you tell me where this temple is ? I mean location in map grid reference? I;ve been searching this island from a helo and havent found either that radio mast as shown in screens or anyother significant place and since the fps isnt that good i havent searched hard myself.

for the next version, I would like to see more variety in the jungle trees, more coloful foliage (this is something i loved about the last version but is missing somewhat in the new one, especially in t the jungles). Generally the jungle trees seem monotonus and darkish...they didn't have the convincing "jungle feel" the last one had imo. Also, the grass at some parts is too grey...it could be lightened up.

Sorry to b*tch so much, just trying to improve this island as much as I can smile_o.gif

your comps are strong!

the lag issue for me is alrite, aslong as i dont look at very dense forest areas

but i havent tried the map with squads of soldiers

but overall ilove the map, i call it asia in my mod folder since its going to be the area of operations where my delta force team can take out drug lords and drug plantations smile_o.gif

I use the same trick on this great map as i do for TOnal, setfog 0.7 its perfect imho.

YOu can engage at realistic battlefield ranges and melt away into the jungle if you want, and it runs super smooth at this for me (Screen set to 1280x1024)

Ill try the setfog command then. Usually I just do it in the weather part of the briefing in the editor.

But now my comments on this island.

This is one fantastic island, really breathes that NAM atmosphere. Working on a SEAL CSAR mission at the moment.

(Find the A-1 Skyraider wreck, blow it up, then find the pilot and extract him). I start out in a Slick, it lands perfectly(found a small clearing in a dense jungle). Started patrolling towards the known pos of the wreck, knowing there are several Charlie patrols between my pos and the wreck. I patrolled really carefully(with sanctuary's great patrol anim), then after about 15 minutes I reach the crash site(all the VC patrols luckily missed me). I spot 2 gookers guarding the wreck, set up an attack, executed it perfectly, but then out of bloody nowhere 4 VC pop up, guns blazing, probably they heard our guns and were pretty damn close. A tense firefight where I was just spraying like hell followed. Surprisingly without any friendly KIA we walked out of there, but oh my god was it a good game, because you dont know what to expect, and when to expect it, even though I was the maker of that mission.

Conclusion : a great map, a real asset to the OFP community, and with a little fog, no lag at all. And one other great thing, the AI in your team just follows you without a hitch. Usually on Ia Drang or Ashau the AI looses you after 2 minutes and they start refusing to go any further(negative, can't get there crazy_o.gif ). BLOODY GREAT WORK MATE!

Hopefully Miss Cleo is inspired by this map to make a NAM version of 1980 SEALs too(pm me for intel on NAM SEALs)
