Are they fuel tanks? I always thought they were just lumps that house the landing gear.

I guess you're gonna have to ask the Fairchild corporation that question smile_o.gif

Except that on Diesel's model, it black tipped on the other wing. rock.gif

Still a good technical question - why?

Well, it is fuel related. Yes, they are the housing for the main gear. But the one on the port wing is the fueling point for ground crews. That's the reason for the black cap. Oddly, it appears that it's reversed in this photo.

*Edit: OK, after researching, I was correct. The ground refueling point is beneath the cap of the port wing fairing. WHy the starboard fairning cap is black is a mystery to me. I'm fairly certain it's not sensor, or communications related.

Like I said, refueling point is on the port ( left ) wing fairing. Why the starboard fairing cap is black is unknown to me.

To tell you that that's NOT the refueling point. biggrin_o.gif

The black gear fairing on the starboard (right) side contains

the ILS antenna. Originally, it was going to be in the nose,

but the shake from the gun required it to be moved.

theavonlady, left, left, left tounge_o.gif

But the fueling point on the left does not have a black cap.

The right right right one does. smile_o.gif

I think Footmunch, the God of all OFP aircraft addons, covered it above. It's a fairing cover for the ILS antenna, because the gun displaced it from the nose cone position.

Only if you give me credit, your Lordship. biggrin_o.gif

Diesel - I tried to reply to your PM, but there seems to be

a problem: is your messenger box full, or something?

Bug: When rearming at an ammo truck, no Mavericks are visible under the wings but they're onboard and can be fired.
