DracoPaladore 0 Posted August 15, 2004 nor Windtalkers (too much...well, just shite) or any other of the yank shite movies Windtalkers is considered a war movie? I remember the massive ball of fire spewing behind Nicholas Cage as he flew in the air after throwing a satchel at a bunker. Or the American soldier heroically disguising himself as the enemy, and walking up out of nowhere with a Captain at one end of his bayonet. And, after which, the awsome Captain holding off an entire Japanese army in a bunker while our dusguised hero calling in coordinates. I thought it was a horrible movie The fact that I remember a few of the scenes is just scary.

jakerod 254 Posted August 15, 2004 Kelly's Heroes that is a good movie. I also remember one I think called Toy Soldiers, not really a war movie but its about a bunch of kids at a College that is taken over by terrorists and eventually Delta Force or someone comes and rescues it. Just remembered it from when I was a kid. Red Dawn and A Bridge Too Far stands as my favorite.
Akira 0 Posted August 15, 2004 Quote[/b] ]I swear to God Akira, people are going to start thinking you and I are the same person trying to play two roles on this forum. We share the exact same politics. We have the same favorite war movie. And, aren't you an attorney? I'm just getting ready to start law school. I'm not an attorney... but I work with them everyday That count? Quote[/b] ]For me the movie..."GLORY" About the first colored, Civil War Regiment. (54th Massachusetts Vol. Inf. Co.) I love that movie! I too will have to concur. I love that movie, and was one of the few war movies to almost bring a tear to me eye! It's interesting that that movie was made, after the screenwriter was in Boston and found stumbled across the obscure monument (shown at the end during the credits) and realized he had heard or learned nothing about them in American history. He started doing research and wrote a screenplay about it. Quote[/b] ]I also remember one I think called Toy Soldiers, not really a war movie but its about a bunch of kids at a College that is taken over by terrorists and eventually Delta Force or someone comes and rescues it. Just remembered it from when I was a kid. I remember that movie because Whil Weaton got blown away. Something I waited 7 seasons in Star Trek: TNG to see... I also will raise a hand for "The Patriot". Will almost idiotic in its historical liberties, and just the though of Mel Gibson as a Southern colonist, I really liked the battle scenes. THe American Revolution still is uite fascinating for me, and to see the battles played out is amazing. March up. Face each other. FIRE! Repeat... Pardon my francais, but I swear, despite it idiocy, it took an enormous pair o' nuts. Quote[/b] ]I didn't like Black Hawk down (too much yank shite) That's because it was Yank shite. It showed international troops, rightly, when they came in to save their asses. What I like about this thread, is it gives me some more foreign war movies to check out (my wife even really like Dark Blue World).
pandalefou 0 Posted August 19, 2004 i think "Band of Brothers" are much realistic than Saving private ryan (yes i know there not 100 per cent realistic movie) in BOB you see the advance of the company (taking point blablablalala...) in SpR the combat are too fast... for me to see BOB on an widescreen with an good sound is amazing ^^ SpR is too much cinema

-33ker 0 Posted August 21, 2004 I've got a question for the German members. Where can I buy or rent following movies in Germany? Winter War The Beast of War and some good Russian movies BTW there was a Russian move I have seen a couple of days ago on Arte. It was about two Russian POWs in Chechenya. The title was something like "Imprisoned in the Caucasus". Included some pretty strong scenes, like a Russian soldier trading his weapon for vodka... Some of my fawourite movies which haven't been mentioned is "Captain Conan".

somebloke 0 Posted August 22, 2004 Blachawkdown was ruined for me, watch the bit where the 3 soldiers run past a burnt out vehicle, one falls over, watch the top of your screen, you will see a hollywood bus and some traffic go by. Best war films? Dambusters Longest Day BoB Great Escape (for the theme) 633 Squadron Apocalypse now We Were Soldiers Band of Brothers Definately all quiet on the western front. Thin red line, i wasn't too sure why they kept blanking the sound out in action sequences. Das Boot Guns of Navarone and lawrence of arabia.

chipper 0 Posted August 30, 2004 Quote[/b] ]Red DawnBest War Movie of all time. About a bunch of teenagers in the Rockies defending their town from a Soviet and Cuban take over. It basically shows how guerilla war works or atleast I thought it did. Jakerod Red Dawn is also my favorite
BoweryBaker 0 Posted August 30, 2004 Red Dawn is an awesome movie. One of the first war movies i ever got into. Another good one is guns of navarone, which i saw up here and remembered. I like the old Harrison Ford war movies.
kerosene 0 Posted August 30, 2004 Red Dawn was supposed to be one of Ronald Reagans favorite films. Kelly's Heroes is great, not exactly the most accurate war film ever made, but i love that hippie tank commander.

da12thMonkey 1943 Posted August 30, 2004 I watched 'Tigerland' last night and I have to say I enjoyed it a lot. I thought it was a lot like Full Metal Jacket where FMJ seems brutal, and darkly comic in the excesses of its horrors Tigerland felt more emotional. I dunno if everyone'd class it as a war film though, because it's about training for Vietnam as most of Full Metal Jacket was.
soul_assassin 1750 Posted August 30, 2004 have to agree, watched it last nite as well. Tis a good movie. I was dissapointed at meself that I havn't watched it b4, need to get a copy for my collection.
-33ker 0 Posted August 30, 2004 Tigerland is quite good, but I wouldn't rate it as a war movie. It was more anti-war, but those two genres are often mixed anyway.
