Bas russian opfor vehicles

I'm kind of dissapointed that the developement of the promising Tonal-concept seems to be abandoned, I was half expecting it to become a full-blown mod revolving around an African Civil war with foreign powers interfering.

Who says its abandoned?

I'm still releasing my campaign. With Earl and Sucheys USMC addon and all the BAS helo except Kiowas. Cant get them downloaded and the Delta/Ranger pack. Hopefully it will be realsed soon. biggrin_o.gif

Um....  did I miss something or was there no BAS release on Thurs.?

Edit: Ah nevermind... I just read the BAS threat on the discussion section. (sigh) Ah well... Better something then nothing as they say.

just a bit of "Constructive Critisim"

i was excited when i first learned of this project when the first beta was released, it was good and just had some small bugs that have been fixed. The problem is not with the quality of the addons, the problem is this was supposed to be "Redressing the Balance" if i recall. when i think all it did was cripple it, all the West has is some Jeep with a mounted M2 that no one uses anymore, this thing even in MP is obsolete. Now before people start flaming i know there is a Desert Pack coming and im not an addon maker obviously but these are edited BIS Models, i think this would have been much nicer with an HMMWV with a mounted M2. That way it would be even. I know there is an HMMWV in the WGL addon pack, but that entire mod is demanding for OFP.. all the addons dont work correctly with it and that big pack just for the hmmwv's is just pointless, ive tried to stress to Andersgrim to release them as a solo project but i have no luck. BAS is the closest thing to making some edited HMMWV... perfection is not something that im askign for it.. just the bis model with an M2 on top would please alot of the community. Dont take this as starting a flame-war just my opinion speaking for many.. all in all good OPFOR because thats what it was meant for Russian opposing forces, but a small edit hmmwv would have been nice and set the balance for good.

btw, looking forward to tommorow's release.

Linke you said, the idea behind this OPFOR pack is to balance.

The point is that if you use our Deltas and Rangers against normal Russian troops without armored vehicles then you have an easy game. If you add some armor to make it harder then it is often too hard since tanks are quite tough if you only have infantry.

So the idea was to give the OPFOR something that has less power than tanks but more than just infantry to make them a valid enemy for the Rangers and Deltas smile_o.gif

The thing is that we are only a few people who do all have different expertise. People expect us to work on the SEALS, the Desert Pack, update our existing stuff AND come up with groundbraking NEW things all at the same time?

We just can't work on all projects at the same time since the same people are involved in those projects and we can't tear ourselves into two smile_o.gif

So if you don't hear anything about a project it doesn't have to mean it got canned, but maybe just postponed because we decided that other things are more pressing smile_o.gif

Plus there's lots of good mission makers out there. I'm sure there are quite a few decent Tonal missions floating around. I have one using the OFrP addons and the Tonal map that should be finished soon. I just haven't had much time to work on it cuz of real life getting in the way. smile_o.gif

Another member of the Lost Brothers team is working on a simulation of the "Entebbe Raid" done by the IDF in Uganda and it will be using the Tonal map as well.

So really I think the Tonal map is quite good the way it is and I don't see any real need for them to update it.

What I'd rather see is them working with other map makers to make some good Middle East maps instead with some good Arab civilian and infantry/militant addons that are as high quality as their Tonal civilians and infantry/rebels.

But for missions...really BAS mission makers should be concentrating on high quality demo missions for their new addons and not on huge campaigns unless they really want to.

BAS could also ask independent mission makers to submit missions to them for further editing to fit them into a campaign or simply a pack of single player missions and MP missions.

Works like a dream... Point, Click, wait, Mushroom. Do BAS mind if I use it just our our OGN Server? It will only be available for OGN Players.

Maybe BAS could use your script? I for one would be VERY interested in using that on our server, too. That is, if it works properly in MP.

Well running around the OPFOR units, had a bit of fun with the OT65, and it don't have the dial bug like the Tonal rebel OT65 has that you start driving the speedo needle floats off the dashbord and over your right shoulder, did like the fact you cap the gunner they fall inside the hull on the floor. Well it was cool letting these out due to the fact mostof the russain mod groups BRDM2s and 1s are still under devepolement, and usually put on the back burner for bigger projects like armored and aircraft. The UAZ isn't all that fictional having seen UAZ gun jeeps used for Peace Keeping ops. In combat missions in Chechina.

If BAS want the script.. (even though surely they can do it themselves) then they need but to ask.

It's not my work, i just put other people's work together. So I have no claim to it.

Credit goes to BAS for making the Scud Fire, and credit goes to COC for the Nuke effect script.. and credit goes to Hudson's F18 that I used to see how they detected the nuke went off and when to make the nuke cloud appear and how..

So yeah if BAS want it no probs, or if you guys want the one I made, just need BAS permission.

@ DeadMeatXM2: At first I want to say I like this pack very much. We need more good addons like this for the east side!Good work!! Like all the BAS AddOns! But I've some questions: Will there be new update of this pack including the Mi24 from thonal opfor pack with "animated" gear? Or a Mi17 without weapons? Or a nuclear warhead spcript for the Scud like the one from CoC (to see as B51 under F/A-18 from Hudson & Penywise)? Would be very nice wink_o.gif .

Any pc I use nowadays is a "low spec box" what with all the high def addons out. That's because I refuse to play any ofp mission without copious amounts of units... (why would you want to use OFP for anything else?) That and I'm just extremely picky about performance.

Still. My two favorite BAS addons are this pack and the MH47. Considerably more reasonable in detail for what I use OFP for as compared to the progressive trend of high detail stuff.

I think it's pretty much decided that I need a Cray XMP to satisfy my computing needs now. Or some kind of SGI workstation.

I don't know where you get that idea from. I use default bis units/retextures more often than I use from-scratch addons for the simple reason that they suit my needs far better than most newer addons, that and for that reason there isn't much variety for more sensibly detailed addons.

Well I was about to offer the Nuclear Scud to anyone that wanted it but I've hit a giant wall with spikes on top... sad_o.gif

The nuke goes off, it looks pretty, but only the person that launches it sees the mushroom cloud.. (nuke.sqs).. I do not know how to get nuke.sqs to exec on all clients, if anyone can help it'd be appreciated.

Does it really work in MP? Does all players the the Scud-Launch?

Yes, same with the Nuke version, all players see the shell that is created. And the blast. Works very well.
