dm 9 Posted June 16, 2003 Following the same line of reasoning, you don´t need weapon models, just black sticks with the weapon´s name on them and you don´t need helmets on your soldier models since the OFP engine doesn´t give you more armor if you use them anyway... This would be yet more work, for our already busy team, that really adds nothing new or special to the game... its just another bit of useless eyecandy, until a way to actually add new nvg's is found... Donnervogel 0 Posted June 16, 2003 correct me if I'm wrong (just my theory) but that what SJB did has a disadvantage. To let the goggels work he had to remove the original NVG proxy from them. Because otherwise they will appear under the new NVG's wich would look shitty. Now since the AI doesn't care about what it sees (it cares only about the data it gets) it won't have nightvision abillities because OFP would tell it that it doesn't see anything. reconmercs 0 Posted June 16, 2003 yeah, I don't really care either way...I just they look neat to alot of people...but most people (including me) would rather have the rangers, deltas, SOAR crews and SEALs released earlier than SOON and an extra bit of EYE CANDY isn't really needed..when it comes down to it there's only so much "realism" you can put in OFP before it just becomes ridiculous and it's time for a mod group to stop obsessing, release what they've got, go outside and meet a girl and move on. nuff said Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
MLF 0 Posted June 16, 2003 i dont know much about editing but with the removal of the NVG proxy even if they have NVG's in there kit can they press n and get NV. because IIRC the original release at night ppl with NVG's never actually put them on but they still had NVG sight. No, we've had many differnet versions in testing for quite a while, trying and trying to get them to WORK, not just look good. The new SOAR have had them from the day we began making an update for them back in November/December, so they will have them even if its for eyecandy, as far as I know. So your line of reasoning just doesn't hold water. We could easily add another 200 polys to each unit to add them and have them serve no purpose... yes, it would be more realistic and possibly look better, but do nothing but slow down the framerates. I as well wouldn't mind seeing them as eyecandy, but if they aren't on there I don't think it will detract from them. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

No stereotypical "computer geeks" sitting in mom's basement in the need of a good tan, some exercise and social skills... sorry to disappoint. Also we obcess over things because thats they way we do things... do it right, or just don't do it. There's no reason to do something half/assed, or without reason. They just take an ungodly amount of time to do, simple as that, especially with RL taking time away from editing. We have to wait to use them as well... it's not like we just hold on to them out of spite I can't speak for anyone on the team but myself, but when they come out, there may be things people will narrow in on and complain about... always is, but overall every project that's close to release is pretty nice... not just by OFP standards.
