US to buy 60 Russian rocket engines worth $1 bln

MOSCOW, January 16. /TASS/. Russia's manufacturer NPO Energomash is to provide 60 new RD-181 rocket engines for US company Orbital Sciences, the Izvestia newspaper reported on Friday citing the president of RKK Energia space corporation.

The contract worth around $1 billion for 60 engines includes not only the costs of the engine production but also a whole range of services - flight training, installing the rocket engine and conducting tests.

“I believe the contract is focused on cooperation within 15-25 years, as no one will regularly change engines on a rocket,†he added.

BP To Bypass Sanctions, Buy In On Siberian Oilfield

British-based BP is negotiating with Russia’s Rosneft to buy a stake in an oil field in eastern Siberia, according to multiple sources with direct knowledge of the talks who spoke with several news organizations.

Those sanctions forbid Russian oil companies to obtain Western technology for shale and offshore oil extraction and limit its access to Western financial markets for financing their initiatives. But they don’t forbid Western companies from buying Russian assets, such as shares in oil fields. Therefore the sanctions wouldn’t apply to any BP-Rosneft deal.

Europe plunged into energy crisis as Russia cuts off gas supply via Ukraine

Russia cut gas exports to Europe by 60 per cent today, plunging the continent into an energy crisis 'within hours' as a dispute with Ukraine escalated.

Six countries reported a complete shut-off of Russian gas shipped via Ukraine today, in a sharp escalation of a struggle over energy that threatens Europe as winter sets in.

Bulgaria, Greece, Macedonia, Romania, Croatia and Turkey all reported a halt in gas shipments from Russia through Ukraine.

Croatia said it was temporarily reducing supplies to industrial customers while Bulgaria said it had enough gas for only 'for a few days' and was in a 'crisis situation'.

The European Union in Brussels called the sudden cut-off to some of its member countries 'completely unacceptable'.

Around 80 per cent of the gas European Union countries receive from Russia comes through Ukraine.

OK, where do they get this from? Because I can´t find anything about it in Croatian, European or German mainstream media and

temporarily reducing supplies to industrial customers
would definately be something that makes it into the news in Croatia. I know that the Daily mail is a bit like the BILD, always exagerating, so what is really the story?

However, that had to be expected. Prices on the world market will now rise and Russia will sell it´s stuff again for a higher price. But people might be reluctant to buy from them now. Russia is killing its own export business in the long term here. Croatia for example can buy Gas via Italy or extract more on it´s own.

Careful with the sources, the daily mail is one of the worst rags around (having genuinely claimed that soup gives you cancer), fabricating stories is not below them (this might not be a fabrication, but check it's been reported elsewhere first).

Yeah this story is definately made up, I still can´t find anything about it in other media. Croatian Media would have had this stuff in it if it was true.

Nothing about politics, just Russians laughing their ass off on the road :D

(watch the middle line)

The same (and even greater, I'll try to take a pic) things are at the old now unused ring road in my city. Road workers train there. The result is just a wet dream of road police:D

The Daily Mail? The paper that supported Hitler alomost until the outbreak of WWII? The paper (along with its proprieter Rothermere) that congratulated Hitler on invading Czechoslovakia, and urged him to invade Romania? That Daily Mail?

Not so much a newspaper as a wad of unrecycled used toilet paper.

Seems the article is just way older, probably from 2009, and not from this or last year - when I did google it dated with 05.01.2015..:

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/new-cold-war-in-europe-as-russia-turns-off-gas-supplies-1230036.html

But neverless, the two articles about BP and the deal about the 60 engines is interesting to read...

The paper that supported Hitler alomost until the outbreak of WWII

I dont know about this newspaper but a lot of industrials and influential people did support Hitler in GB and the US until the outbrake of ww2, because communism was a seen as a threat and germany was the counter and acted as a buffer zone. For example, without the delivery of chemical substances from the companies in GB/USA i.e. Standard Oil to produce synthetic petrol, Hitler would have not been even able to start the war.

So, you shouldnt be surprised that it wasnt only just a newspaper...

Offtopic but very interesting:

If some of you understand german, you have to watch this documentary aired on channel 1 state TV (ARD) " Das schmutzige Geschäft mit den Nazis" (The dirty business with the Nazis)

The Lithuanian government has published a "War Guide" in the event of Russian aggression. It warns civilians amongst other things that "shots under the window is not the end of the world", and in the case of the occupation of Lithuania, they should show resistance by demonstrations and strikes, "or at least work worse than usual."

( Defense One ) Russia Is About To Absorb Part of Another Country

While Moscow continues to be hammered by low oil prices and western-led sanctions, it is doubling down on hard-edged political and financial retribution: Russia is preparing to absorb a province of neighboring Georgia, and delivering an ultimatum to Europe that it could lose much of the Russian gas on which it relies.

Let the glorious Lithuanian govt deal with their economics alone and not push down solving of all problems on hypothetical Russian occupants. I know it's their wet dream to give up everything, leave ruined by themselves country with wasted economics and massive migration and blame Russians from some cosy European villa, but... Sorry, solve your problems alone or with the help of your EU comrades.

As for annexing of some Caucasian region... Wait, wait! At first I'll buy some house there for their current prices and then annex.

Not going to translate everything, but here are some banners:

"We love Muhammed more than anything"
"Islam is a religion of peace"
"Charlie Hebdo is an international terrorist"
"Shame to anti-islam Europe and everybody who supports it"
"The terrorists are not muslims, but the ones who insult muhammed and islam"

As far I know, in Russia are living around 20 millions muslime. Fortunately the reactions seem quiete calm in comparison to the outcries and violence in other countries. Most of us are of course shaking only the head about certain translated messages.

If you see the reactions worldwide after the re-release of the cartoons you can come to the conclusion that the message of the Pope and his critics are valueable thoughts. Freedom means also that you have the freedom of decision, not only the freedom of expression by all means because you just can.

An interesting post concerning Russia and how its portrayal by our media from a British woman who has actually studied Russian and has visited this country several times.

http://catherinebrown.org/deconstructing-russophobia/

OK, let´s take a look.

Imagine that Vladimir Putin were not a murderous autocrat and kleptocrat who has spent his fourteen years in power living up to his KGB past and dragging Russia ever back towards Communist autocracy, illiberalism, and expansionism.

Quite hard to do when he actually is dragging Russia back towards autocracy, illiberalism and expansionism.

Imagine that instead he were the one of the greatest leaders that Russia has had, whose policies have helped produce a massive rise in living standards and life expectancy,

The rise in living standards is not because of his policies. It coincides with the enourmous rise of the oil price over the last years.

recuperation of national pride, and enforcement of the rule of law, who has tackled kleptocrats and gangsters wisely and well,

exept when they are him or his crownies....

whose foreign policy has on balance been realistic, diplomatic, and conducive to peace,

Oh don´t make me laugh. If his politics were so full of peace then why is the world (and especially Russias neigbours) so damn worried about Russia?

who has presided over a country of which the human rights record is considerably better than that of the United States
Says who? And even if true, that only means that the US is pretty fucked up (yeah it kind of is).

and in which civil rights are improving,
Amnesty international is saying something else, again, where does this lady get her stuff from, such a shame that she doesn´t provide any sources, I wonder why....
and who richly deserves the steady support of 65% – currently at a Ukraine-related high of 83% – of the population that he possesses.

Deserved by controlling all the media and spreading false propaganda.

It is my understanding that the reality is closer to the second scenario than the first –

Your judgement of reality is lacking.
and I may note that I say this as someone with no ethnic, financial, professional or political ties to Russia whatsoever.
Oh don´t make me laugh again.

Ceah propaganda piece by someone Putin would classify as usefull idiot.

Hm... Putin controls all the media? Seriously? Then why do I read tons of anti-Russian BS from several tens of sources that are established in Russia (I mean social networks, various media outlets) and why there are all the main western media outlets still broadcasting here? Note I use state-owned ISP both for Internet and IP-TV.

Putin controls all the mass media in Russia, for a simple reason it's funded and directed by the Kremlin.

Which doesn't mean that he controls directly the alternative, tho he has issued laws to restrict them a lot these last years.

In fact you already know about his plans to create an alternative Internet, to have more control over it.

Again why do I see plenty of russophobic and anti-state stuff in such outlets as Russian Livejournal, VKontakte, Echo of Moscow, Snob, Kommersant, E1, NSK, Slon, RBK, etc.? Why can I read all Ukrainian media and watch Ukrainian TV despite some laws issued recently (as you say)? Why do I have free access to any foreign social network like facebook or twitter? Why my state-funded ISP broadcasts DW, Euronews, CNN, BBC (not Russian-translated but in original)?

Because they are taking that away piece by piece. There would be a massive outcry if they suddenly blocked everything. Once the Russian intranet is ready you will see more and more russian services emulating western services so that Russians move over to them, just like Vkontakte that is a Russian facebook. Then when the Russians aren´t so dependent on foreign services they will begin to shut down the connection between their intranet and the global internet using some excuse like strenghtening the Russian multimedia industry or smth. The Russian people won´t miss it as much because they already prefer the Russian services.

It´s a slow process, but Putin is planning on staying in power for a long time.
