On a scale of 1 to 10, how realistic is Arma2

Recommended Posts

1 being an arcade shooter and 10 being just like real life. W/without ACE2.

And how does Arma2 compare with BF BC2 or Cod in terms of realism?

Sure ain't lifelike, but, yes, it does do a good job as a realistic game. It can be pretty immersive at times.

3-4

I give ArmA a 5 as long as you stay away from vehicles, as soon as you board a ground vehicle it drops to 3, board a Helos and it drops to 2, board a airplane and its -1.

Beagle - spot on.

Infantry aspect is quite well, but so much is still missing when you take a real rifle in your hands and then play A2. I would give it a 5, too.

Infantry: 5. Vehicles: 1. Planes: 0. Helicopters 2.

Well, if was to rate COD/BFBC2 and other alike on the same scale, they would get an 1 and is just for using weapons and vehicle MODELS that resemble with their real counterparts (note i said models, never said those behave like the real deal).

for A2/A2OA:

Infantry will then get 5-6

Vehicles: 1-2

Planes: 1

Choppers: 3 (and that is because of the flight model rather than the FCS).

ACE or not, doesn't matter all that much on a grand scale though

battlefield, cod series - 1. ArmA 2 - 5.

If you wanna have a game with total realism - 10, just get a life, and get the hell out of ur PC! ;)

Battlefield, CoD - 1 (because can't go any lower)

ArmA2 - 4 (people who complain about vehicles forget it's an infantry sim first and foremost since nobody can simulate everything, although with PhysX things gotta improve in ArmA3 when it comes to vehicles)

ArmA2 with ACE - 7

VBS2 - 6

Now... tell that to our Multi Players mission dominating "tab" specialists.

2, all facets considered.

2.15673245 to be precise. I measured this value using the most accurate tools available to me.

I would like to see ArmA 3 to have approximately 2.15673245 realism out of 10. I believe 2.15673245 forums mbrs would agree with moi.

Thumbs and asses are generally not considered tools. Anyway, its 2.1568324. I am sure of it.

Tell that to the porn industry :p

I'd say 4 (vanilla) and 6 (with ACE).

And I'm glad with this, IMO pushing the realism further would have a bad impact on gameplay (I don't want to babysit my own character, telling him when to eat, drink,...).

I wouldn't mind the vanilla version being pushed to the ACE level though. Some ACE features seems so basic I don't understand they're not implemented in the vanilla game yet (like weapon resting,...)

But I don't consider ArmA as a milsim, for me it's a sandbox platform and you can turn it into whatever you wish. And that makes it the best game serie I've ever played :)

ACE is ok but this guy wouldn't make it 100 yards without collapsing. Thankfully that's not reality.

With only tunnelview (3rd view off): 2

Other games: 1

Playing BIS games since 2001, ingame I steadily change from tunnelview to 3rd view ...

DUDE, there is no such thing as tunnel view unless you look through a scope...

You want to get rid of limited FOV present in any FPS as long as there is only one monitor present?

3 monitors might be expensive, yes, but you seem to have a problem with the limited peripheral view...so might worth it for your inner peace.

Hey, you shouldn't derail this thread!

Tunnelview (that is No-3rd-view) reduces the environmental awareness to such an extent, that no soldier in real life would enter a combat ...

Still deosn't hack it, I have three monitors and you end up with restricted vertical FOV. So it is all expense for no inner peace unfortunatly.

To really escape the FOV trap you would be better using 3 42" TVs and sitting pretty close up to them.

That's why the soldier enters into a magical meditation that allows him to see himself from behind, peek around corners and see over walls without exposing himself, see behind himself and this makes it more realistic. Even more realism comes if through meditation the soldier sees the crosshair

I cant compare to real life Having NEVER used a gun ,fired a rocket launcher ,flown a chopper ,flown a plane or driven a tank

Compared to other games though I would say a 5-7

or -1 upto 2 if crosshair and 3rd is on
