Maio 293 Posted September 17, 2011 Considering it's a sandbox FPS and not a simulator, I give it a 5.

MissionCreep 12 Posted September 18, 2011 DUDE, there is no such thing as tunnel view unless you look through a scope...You want to get rid of limited FOV present in any FPS as long as there is only one monitor present? 3 monitors might be expensive, yes, but you seem to have a problem with the limited peripheral view...so might worth it for your inner peace. HaHa ... that would be a 10/10 score for realism if you are falling asleep or if you are fighting from inside a mailbox.
james mckenzie-smith 1 Posted September 18, 2011 The realism of this game, along with any computer wargame or conflict simulator, is dependent to a great degree on the players playing it. SOCOM 2 on the PS2, when played by a player in a realistic fashion, is a more realistic simulation than ArmA2 is if ArmA2 is being played by a total dickhead running around fraggin' his team mates and teabagging corpses. This applies for both SP and MP players. Scenario design also has a huge amount to do with realism. Realistic scenarios, played in a more or less realistic fashion by people using vanilla ArmA2, will be more realistic than a game of capture the flag played by people playing for a laugh, even if using any mod that supposedly increases the reality of the stock product. ArmA2 offers a better framework than almost any other game for a player to shape game play experiences to suit his or her tastes with regards to realism. Sure, there are some aspects that are intrinsically more realistic than others, but it is really up to we the players to make ArmA2 realistic or not, or at least as close as the game can get to realism, given it's limitations and advantages. Anyway, I cannot give a number, as requested by the original poster, as I really cannot quantify something so abstract.

st_dux 26 Posted September 19, 2011 Tunnelview (that is No-3rd-view) reduces the environmental awareness to such an extent, that no soldier in real life would enter a combat ... This may be partially true, but third person gives the player an unrealistically high degree of situational awareness. Overall, it's less realistic with it on than with it off. liquidpinky 11 Posted September 19, 2011 This may be partially true, but third person gives the player an unrealistically high degree of situational awareness. Overall, it's less realistic with it on than with it off. Actually I would disagree, they are both as unrealistic as each other. One being way too restrictive and the other way to free, somewhere in the middle would be nice.
OrLoK 20 Posted September 19, 2011 Hello How realistic is it? It's a zero. Its not realistic at all when compared to any real life combat situation IMHO. As a "PC Sim", well, its easily on a scale of 8 to 9 in comparison with any publicly available software ie bf2 cod moa et al. For Sim die hards, its the best game out there, not the prettiest or easiest to get to grips with, but for overall experience its tip top. Rgds LoK
Macadam Cow 1 Posted September 19, 2011 (edited) Overall, it's less realistic with it on than with it off. Being unable to properly do a simple reverse with a 5T truck or a HMMWV without help isn't realistic at all. IRL you have side mirrors. If it's not enough you can open your door and lean outside to clearly see where you're going. Same with helo, IRL the pilot can look above the "dashboard" or lean outside and see under his birds. In ArmA you're locked in a box inside your vehicle. As long as side mirrors and 6DOF aren't implemented the 1st person view alone isn't realistic at all. Disabling the 3rd person view for the sake of realism is senseless. IMO no matter which level of difficulty is chosen the 3rd person view must be available in vehicles. Edit : yup, you're right Herbal Influence. Actually I thought we were in the ArmA3 thread =S Edited September 19, 2011 by Macadam Cow
Herbal Influence 10 Posted September 19, 2011 Thread shouldn't be derailed ... pls discuss tunnelview vs 3rd view here!
walker 0 Posted September 19, 2011 Hi all 2 to 5 depending on what aspects you are looking at. Every other FPS varies between 0.1 to 2 Some of the Flight sims rate a 6 but they are limited to flying only and do not have the scope of ArmA. By the way I think ArmA has the highest rating of any RTS too say about 6 but only if you are using the Command Engine, BIS's version is about a 1. Kind Regards walker
galzohar 31 Posted September 20, 2011 Way more realistic than any other game that has only infantry as well as any other game that has any kind of combined arms combat. You don't put Arma on a scale, you put the scale on Arma (as in, Arma defines the high end of the scale) :)
HR4 Elite 10 Posted September 20, 2011 In the real world it’s a '1' maybe a '2'... In the virtual world it’s a '10' or maybe a '9', I will wait for A3 to decide... .
