Herbal Influence

Behaviorism ;-)

Recommended Posts

Sorry, people I cannot believe it.

I open a game, like it when people join.:)

Someone joins, fights, leaves in the middle of it, or at least when seeing that he will not succeed.

No "hello!", nothing.

As if he/she and me was robots!

Though people see that they go on MY PC (host) to play against/with ME -->> natural person '!!

I don't get it. Is this a generation of pseudo-autistic people?

My new way of dealing with it: After 5 min of gaming I asked: Are you a robot?

Then I say: No answer = kick. And then kick. :butbut:

Funny story, I couldn't have imagined before: Once I asked. And asked. And asked. Friendly. And 15 min later I asked again. Then the answer: "Sorry, but I don't want to socialize."

Wow - at last an answer!

Did I want to 'socialize'?

Mmm .... no I just want to here a 'hello!' and not be treated like a machine.

Of course Vilas. Like You have a big experience in multiplayer gaming :)

Herbal, I feel Your pain but sadly that's todays society. I assure You tho - there's many people who talk. It just depends on who you will meet in the server (simple stuff: the more addons you use, the bigger chance you will meet a talking and experienced player).

It's more common on arma 2 vanilla game, mostly because there's a wave of newbies from A2F and polish game magazine - some of these people didn't even knew how to use chat or VON (OFP and ArmA controls were always way off from corridorish shooters). Also, most of the true (and mature) fans are already on combined ops, so the rest playing on vanilla is probably the mentioned newbies or people who have stolen the game (piracy).

In the end, it's just the fact that gaming is less "elitish" then it was in the past, now there's just many assholes out there :)

LOL -I've had the same experience with this game before.

"Whats up peoples?" :)

*silence*

"derp"

:D

For some reason the best time I've ever had with Arma MP was that Cayo CTF demo for Arma1 -was a fun jovial bunch playing everynite and even tho Arma1 wasn't the best -was the best MP experience I remember here.

I can vouch for that, i've known times where someone has just helpfully mentioned that the / key is to type, and it has helped someone start communicating. But yeah, sometimes people are simply ignorant and aren't interested.

@OP: You sir talk respect and yet you talk behind their backs calling him/her/them names.

If you want respect, and be greeted, show some respect yourself before you judge somebody.

You blame the other for not being social, by not saying hello.. Then what is this you're doing, talking like this behind their back?

And to do so out in the public in the open here on BI forums, I think this ain't the right place to do such a thing..

This ain't Psy-magazine forums you know..

No response is better than having an 11 year old kid (admitted it) on saying he's a veteran of arma

The main reason that people don't answer is that they don't know that / is for chat.

The amount of times I get kicked while feverishly banging away at my keyboard trying to find the talk button. (simultaneously as I am getting shot or the transport leaves without me or bla bla bla).

And then of course there are other times, when I have people in the room talking to me, and some chap online trying to talk to me too.

He thinks he is being social talking to me, but actually he's just interupting me. Putting me in a position where I am forced by circumstance to be rude to/ignore someone.

And other times still, I just plum CBA. I'm not in the mood for talking.

Normally however I quite like to greet people when I join an online game and thank them when I leave. But it's only a game. I try not to let myself get irked by random strangers I play it with.

also sometimes people do respond its just not in the same channel i.e. the default channel is group channel and if your not in their group, well you get the rest

Using the channels can be a pain sometimes.

Common courtesy should be practised though.Like a greeting, farewell,

discussion about plan/tactics and so on.Personally I wouldn't expect people

to converse if they're not in the mood.Especially if I've never played alongside

them before.

But simple acknowledgement isn't a lot to ask.

Of course mission type can affect the chatter too.If everybody is busily

watching their "sector" while moving around in enemy territory, then it's probably

not the best time for a chinwag.

The only people I've ever played with, either online or in a lan

situation, would already be familiar to me.Which not only makes conversation

less strained. But takes the pressure off,to fill in awkward silences.Which many

people do seem to get hung up on.

At this point,I'd find it very strange to jump into a game with complete

strangers. My expectations,in terms of general respect and courtesy

are probably a little too high.Abuse over ping times, skill level,or

anything else doesn't exist.And wouldn't be tolerated,in any case.

Given some of the nasty behaviour I've seen from "gamers",in

the public arena,I'm perfectly happy to keep to a small group of people

I know.

Sometimes the conversation could bring the game into amusement (good way), but also will possibly rifle up their nerves of hostility no matter how kind you greet these players.

(Not mentioning in ARMA2, I am talking about the mainstream online gaming with chatting channels)

Something like "Hey, one more n00bz try to get himself pwn3d!" when someone joining the server. Either these people will take it as a greeting joke and having fun with it. But if someone really hate to be call as a rookie, he may possibly criticize or even making even more jokes which is ruining the game.

Thus, it doesn't matter on me of what these people talking about in servers, sometimes these methods of speech are very good PSYOPS weapon in anytime. (If not to get player out of it, of course)

Thanx for your comments!

And it's true that newbies sometimes have problems with the various channels.

"I answered in wrong channel!", I had it sometimes.

And also, if you simply say "Hi!", sometimes it's mixed with automatic conversation of the AIs ... ;-)

So I turned to using less standard-like-welcome words.

Another difference to OFP, which was my best experience ever regarding this topic, is the fact that downloading takes it time and you never really know when people are actually 'ingame', if they show not up on the map or next to you.

And mostly communication has gone worse because of JOIP (join in progress).

This was not possible in OF and ... I don't remember: not in Armed Assault?

At the time of OF, when you had to wait for people to assemble and start together, you really had a short chat because you simply had to wait. You exchanged some info, saw how peoples moods were .. .. and it made MUCH more fun to then go into the fight because it was persons you were dealing with and not anonymous flying electrons in the universe. But you can't turn back time. Nowadays you have to be in a clan or have your mates to have a good game. Not always, but much more often.

But ok, I thought I would be the only one annoyed by that and now I am not. Thanx guys.

I think I can sort of understand it. If you simply wish to play a game, but not converse, I guess there must be such people around. Maybe they had poor previous experience with it.

Anyway, if they're not causing trouble, I don't see any issue aside from maybe the co-op comms side.

Well, there is still SP for those. ;)

I mean, what's the point of joining a MP game if you don't want to deal with human players? Do they just serve to replace the AI? Well then it would be polite to at least reckon them in saying "hi, gl & hf".

I think too often people forget that behind those ubercool 1337 nicknames are still humans, they think "bah, i'm anonymous anyway so who cares". They wouldn't act that way if they were face to face with those co-players.

Or maybe i'm just too old for this shit. :D

Errr, not really man. "Players" tab on the map. You see who's in and who's not.

And JIP is really... well, we wouldn't play without it probably. Because from v1.55 and higher crashes are so often, half of the players would be gone, some even in the briefing section. And JIP let's them back in action, as well as the guys who had a connection reset or power off in most tragic cases.

Don't ever criticize it :P JIP ftw.

Got to admit I was guilty of that when I first started playing. I didn't want to bother people while I was off in a corner wondering what to do, wondering how things worked and how to play the game.

Thoughtless politeness? lol

Never gone into a bar full of people you don't know and sat their quietly, keeping yourself to yourself?

Why go to bar if you aren't going to talk to anyone. And yet people still do.

Usually they say hello to bartender and chitchat at bar is very common when patron stays for a while. Weird loners and delusional alcoholics don't apply.

I think we're talking relative to other MP experiences.

To me, playing Co-Op with other people requires some level of communication or it's just plain retarded. PvP deatmatch requires none and Team PvP I have little experience in but would guess comm's would only help your team.

Personally I consider all my online gaming to be loner games.

I play on LAN when I have company.

And while I would agree with you about communication for the main part, I'm human. Sometimes I'm not in the mood.

You know what I mean, if I just got the sack from work or I just caught my wife sleeping with my brother. Or if I am watching TV, while I wait for the action to get started. Or I was on the toilet during the loading screen. My wife is asking me about my day at work or my child asking me if he can play with matches...

I find the other players I play with online frequently irk me. I constantly find fault with their game style. I consistently rile at the way some people address me. Or indeed don't address me.

In my mind I am listing all the ways in which they suck more than me. All the ways in which I rock compared to them...

And then I have a word with myself.

Someone doesn't say "hello" to you. So what?

If I have a plan and I can be bothered to lead... I type it in. If no one can be bothered to lead, we just go as is. Not every game has to be hardcore. Sometimes a knockabout is all I'm in the mood for.

(Some games are doomed to misery from the outset. Some groups are never going to find a team dynamic. Or too many people are in a bad mood. It's good to know when to quit).

Ever tried going to a bar and deliberately talking to everyone?

-The women think you are a sex pest.

-The men think you are gay.

-Groups of people think you are mentally challenged just for being sociable.

-After an hour the bar staff think you are trying to sell drugs and throw you out.

-If you are lucky you will not be attacked and chased down the street because some of those 'very quiet' people really are very mentally challenged.

Can't understand why we all communicate on forums and blogs these days can you?
