jakerod 254 Posted May 2, 2011 It said Person Black Hat Boys. (Probably a play on the Iranian Boys Black Hat hacker group that goes around)Hmm. Does someone wanna check the mission? (I never got that far in the campaign in A2) and check to see (as said) if anything has mysteriously been added in a patch? :) It seems more logical to me that they would expect us to check the location in game than for us to fly to the place in real life and check there. Maybe we're not even supposed to do anything though. Maybe it is just an initial thing to start the advertising. But they have always seemed to enjoy puzzles. maturin 12 Posted May 2, 2011 I checked the area and I didnt find anything too, if they put a new object on Chernarus (the actual map, not mission) the model would have to be in one of the .pbo files, all that needs to be done is to unpbo the pre-patch pbos and the post patch pbos and then merge the folders to find the extra model. But I'll rather wait to see what happens in 42 hours then to do that. Maybe we should check in Bitter Chill.
Undeceived 392 Posted May 2, 2011 (edited) It seems more logical to me that they would expect us to check the location in game than for us to fly to the place in real life and check there. I would say it is exactly the opposite. Why would they go to this place from their office (south of Prague, if I'm correct) and take the pictures of this place (assumed that BI is behind this and not a hacker group ;) )? According to this it takes 2 hours to DÄ›ÄÃn-Krásný Studenec (Krasnostav in real life). So it should make sense to check the real life location. Dammit, if I lived near the German Czech border, I'd be on my way already. :D I always wanted to visit RL Chernarus anyway. EDIT: Also read the last part of the AAN article. viper[cww] 14 Posted May 2, 2011 Perhaps it might be a rejuvenated Chernarus.... using Take On Helicopters engine.... its possible, but then most would say why when they have been working on the same engine for over 10 years.... to try something fresh I would reply ;)
KuiK 0 Posted May 2, 2011 Following the "geocaching hunt" trace:I'm not sure, but it could be that the those pictures on the hacked A2 website really were taken near the (real life) location of Spukajev's house. I checked the corresponding region in Google maps and think I found some spots (trees, dirt road) that seem to match with the first hacker photo. Check the pictures: PICTURE 1 (just an overview so you know what region I'm talking about): PICTURE 2 and 3 (compare the marked spots in both pictures): I think it is the same place
Undeceived 392 Posted May 2, 2011 I think it is the same place Nice find! I'd say it definitely is the same place.

jakerod 254 Posted May 2, 2011 It seems like a stretch that they would expect one of us to actually go there. Also I don't think that mountain with the thing on top of it is actually in game. His house is on the east side of the map and if that hill on the right side of the image is accurate to being ingame then I would say that the hill falls outside of the border area or at the very least that tower isn't there last time I checked. ben_s 11 Posted May 2, 2011 ugh hopefully its just an DLC and not EP, my wallet is pretty empty these days... :o What DLC could it be pointing towards. I don't think anyone has put together an actual picture on what the hell is going on yet. It would be funny if it was a geniune hack that BIS sorted up quickly. :D
Einherjer 10 Posted May 2, 2011 You cant find the House in CZ ... you destroyed it with a sachet ;) dont you remember?

Tonci87 163 Posted May 2, 2011 Nice find boys. You found the RL location. Now we need someone to actually go there. If I wouldn´t live on the opposite side of germany, i would be on my way already...
Beagle 684 Posted May 2, 2011 Nice find boys. You found the RL location. Now we need someone to actually go there. If I wouldn´t live on the opposite side of germany, i would be on my way already...I plan on going there in mid June for hiking...and taking some photos of "Stary Sobor" and "Old Fields" areas. It's not that far from Leipzig.
Undeceived 392 Posted May 2, 2011 (edited) Here comes a small summary of information we have and some of the speculation that arose out of it: - Hacked Arma 2 website (link): The hackers (probably) refer to Razor Team in 2009 who found documents at Spukayev's house (before destroying it) that proved that the Chedaki, not NAPA, was responsible for the Moscow bombings. By saying "they [the documents] bought you a way out of that mess." maybe the hackers could mean that these documents legitimated the USMC to come back to Chernarus after they had to draw back because Russia sent troops after NAPA and to stabilize Chernarus. Furthermore the hackers mention that not all documents were found (by Razor Team in 2009). According to them more documents are hidden somewhere at Spukayev's place. Other than that the hacked website shows pictures of green landscape, dirt roads, trees and something that looks like a hole in the ground. - AAN article (link) (AAN mixes real life world news with news of the Armaversum.) - The last part of the AAN article seems to be of importance: According to Bohemia Interactive marketing materials, the company creates simulation terrain according to real terrain data. So the speculation is that the hacker's claims and photos point to a real location. Why would the hackers point to such a place remains unknown. We are not able to locate the spot nor send an investigator to find out the truth. This leads to the suspicion that the location of Spukayev's house in real life could be important too. - Finding the exact location of the hacker pictures: 1. http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?p=1910387#post1910387 2. http://forums.bistudio.com/showpost.php?p=1910509&postcount=130 - The hacker's pictures show a path: 1. The pictures of the hacked page seem to show a path which begins at the first picture and ends at the last one with the hole in the ground. 2. The pictures were taken in only a few minutes, which proves that they were taken almost at the same location (link). They are from 23.4.2011. 3. Some spots are visible on more than one picture (link). 4. The location of this hole in the ground (last picture) is the real life place of Spukayev's (destroyed) house in Arma 2: Compare this picture with this one (red X-marker). savedbygrace 2 Posted May 2, 2011 I think you guys are off on that location. It may resemble it but they would not take a photo of a fork in the road if there was no fork in the road. In game, there is only one road and it is a primary road(paved). In the photo, it is two secondary roads(gravel and/or dirt). I've checked all intersecting secondaries on Chernarus and nothing resembles that photo with enough similarity to draw any conclusions. It could be that they are releasing hints now and will continue to do so until they have completed a new update for the Arma2 game in which they could have made changes to the land to store that first hint. Who knows? It could be the beginning of a scavenger hunt across BIS islands. Or it could be one of the dev's having fun with a bunch of over eager junkies.
Tonci87 163 Posted May 2, 2011 Well the photos show a RL location. It has been proven that this Location equals spukayevy house ingame. We only need someone to go ther and dig a little bit. Someone who speaks chzech and has the phone number of someone in RL Krasnostav?
Beagle 684 Posted May 2, 2011 (edited) Also...the state of vegetation shows very clearly that the pictures are taken in this week. Last year the vegetation period was lagging a bit behind in early May in central europe due to the cold and long winter 2009/2010. I wil bring a folding Shovel with the camera.
