BigMorgan 11 Posted May 11, 2011 could you drop the spam and post only the fucking clues? You know, Spam sandwiches can actually be pretty tasty. :D Keep up the good work, fellas. I think pretty soon you'll have the answer - I'm hoping for an Arma 3 coming in 2012!
msy 22 Posted May 11, 2011 (edited) Let's go faster by memory: what date is the important date when something about military occured after 1900? peace conference? founding and end of an empire or alliance or group? beginning and end of a war? But maybe each important date between has a gap of 3~4 years. Maybe: 07 peace conference 11 revolution of china 14 ww1 17 revolution of russia 18 end of ww1 21 founding of community party of china 24 death of Lenin 27 founding of PLA 31 September 18th Incident 33 fonding of Hitler regime 37 Japanese invading China 39 WW2 ... Edited May 11, 2011 by msy

LkFp 10 Posted May 11, 2011 msy you were correct:... also "Ten Rules of War" starts here: CE 83 19 ... or "Ten" ... but it's a bit cryptic... I'm not sure if it's easily decryptable How did you get "Ten" to be CE 83 19?
soul_assassin 1750 Posted May 11, 2011 hmm found something weird using cheat engine, found the adress entry for month and can succesfully change it to any month except OCT when u input month 10 it sets it to DEC, when i set it to SEP then it jumps straight to DEC at the end of the month, then back to NOV at the next month hmm coincidentally the only found dates so far are also in OCT? Innomadic 10 Posted May 11, 2011 (edited) Not a clue, just a warning. http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/03/31/exclusive-interview-bohemia-interactive-talks-take-on-helicopters/ JC: Nailing down the helicopter experience demands a lot of work in terms of adding brand new features, refining more familiar ones, and optimising the game for flying helicopters. The buzzwords circulating around our studios alone goes some way to reveal the extent of the work at hand: picture in picture, increased view- and draw-distance, interactive cockpits, sling loads. But perhaps we’ve said enough for now! In fact, another cool aspect of Take On project is that it’ll allow us to look at improving various aspects of our simulation technology that could potentially be integrated into some possible future games with a much larger scope. ...and... JC: Take On Helicopters is full-size game and, therefore, we expect it to have price point of a normal full PC game. Plus, we are considering some nice incentives online for our dedicated troops on the ground in Arma 2 that are interested in learning something new. If they announce - after all this - Take On Helicopter DLC... I will murder 1 kitten every hour until they say they have A3 ready for release. The kittens will be cute. The man is serious... In all seriousness, this COULD turn out to be something for Take On.... Edited May 11, 2011 by Innomadic
wamingo 1 Posted May 11, 2011 How did you get "Ten" to be CE 83 19? Changed some bytes to see if the lettering would come out different, and got lucky. The block looked suspecious. I follow your advice btw. running quite faster indeed. I wonder how You found that! ;)

My guess would be that it not actually counts up the date but a counter of days since some fixed start date, and that it just calculates a date out of that (there's actual functions in the C library for that). That was changing the date doesn't do anything.

I managed to find where the string for events is created (address 0x401837) and I assume prior to that at 0x401747 starts decoding of stored data. But that is way over my league. Timing was pretty easy to find, just looked where settimer is called. ;) EDIT: assuming you have opened disassembled uncompressed file... You are right about those texts, 2 of them are almost the same length as we found already, ended with 0. Length of bytes in exe is one byte longer that text we found ("Ten ..."). I think found something like index of showed text (incremented by 16) in memory it is just after minutes and seconds - one byte. Unfortunately, changing it wont change text :)
