Tankbuster 1747 Posted April 26, 2011 I'm pleased a number of people agree with me. Always nice not to be an outcast. :) But is seems to me that with the possible exception of Zargabad, most of us have chosen the larger towns. Do we crave the big towns? Tonci87 163 Posted April 26, 2011 The big town offer more opportunitys, and its a lot more statisfiying if you win a battle in a large Town
-)rStrangelove 0 Posted April 26, 2011 Do i love big cities? Good question. In my case i'd say there needs to be some sort of structure to it, with certain details that stick out: - a big hill / big building near it, overlooking place for recon / snipers - a big road / highway - small suburbs with gardens - old historical ruins a big plus - lots of cover (vehicle-wreckages around, rocks on hilltops, big trees in the gardens/park areas) - at least 1 big bridge What i hate: - grey factories - rusty ironworks without any purpose (cant be climbed, looks horrible) - see-through fences (hard to see enemies behind them, lags horribly in zoom-mode, flickering in the distance)
Laqueesha 474 Posted April 26, 2011 Are there any big bridges in any of the offical A2/OA/BAF/PMC maps? There were quite a few in AA1 which could be destroyed for strategic purposes.

Yeah, sadly there are no briges worth destroying for strategical purposes in Arma 2 or OA....

Remembering how many vehicles ended up down in the water underneath the bridges in ArmA1 its possibly better this way ...

Although this topic is about BIS towns, I think it's useful if I mention an addon island to demonstrate a point. Duala is a lovely island, but some of the towns are a bit "copy/paste" and a little 'unlived in'. Of course I realise it's a solo effort and a brilliant one at that, but if it has a weak point, that's it. The towns of Chernarus for example, had a visible history behind them. The two industrial port cities, the former capital, the garrison towns, the neglected northern conurbations. That said, I still long for the complex and authentic 'burbs of Sahrani.:) But size, as I often remind my wife, isn't everything. That's one reason I have a soft spot for Bagango. It's actually quite a small town, it's just split up over a large area, much of which happens to be water. Crossing the bridges under fire always gave me a big buzz and the sea level parts allowed the fly boys to get really low and there's nothing more exciting that looking DOWN on your airsupport! :D
dale0404 5 Posted April 26, 2011 Nostalgia ... Oh how I miss Sahrani... Before people say it yes I know we have the AA1 project. But god I would love it if BIS did an official port of the Islands from Arma 1 into Arma 2. And I mean official!

Tankbuster 1747 Posted April 26, 2011 LOL. Yes. I meant Dolores. :) Thanks Celery. :) Equally, sometimes, I find my thoughts of a particular town is lead by memory of a mission there. I particularly remember a coop in Chantico (Chantico is the one with the hotel in the middle and the villa complex on a hill overlooking the town - I;m at work and don't have access to the game?) Me and one other put held a very sizeable force with just small arms and a couple of AT4s. We ran out of ammo a number of times, having to call ammo drops in. When a third player joined the game late, he brought the Harrier airsupport and bombed a T72 that had me cornered with an extraordinarily precise bit of dumb bombing. He then crashed into the hotel! So, it's not always town design.... although that town (if iirc and it is Chantico) will always be burned in my memory for that reason alone.

CarlGustaffa 4 Posted April 26, 2011 Ortego, Dolores, Bagango, Paraiso, and Corazol (in that order) of the biggies. Of the non town areas, I'd have to say Isla del Vida and Isla del Vassal, of all places :D Sahrani has the best cities by far. Chernarus the most appealing and beautiful landscape (but fighting in it sucks due to so much always being obstructed). Takistan offers the most tactical choices wrt landscape, approach routes, and cover.
maturin 12 Posted April 26, 2011 Bleh, I don't like fighting in Takistan, quite often. The AI can't handle valley combat, and you don't need to maneuver or plan ahead to prevail. The entire center of the map promotes linear combat. You can walk down the road in one of two directions or else you have to go mountain-climbing. It's too easy for the player because you can just camp behind one of the giant boulders that are littered everywhere, or in a house. Chernarus is tangled and obstructed, but not nearly so much as the real world is.

Sahrani is definately an incredible map. Chantico is fun to assault from the beach towards that heavily defended town and hill.
SSgt Decker 4 Posted April 27, 2011 Anything from Nogova. My buddies and I made soo many great missions on that island... And from ArmA2/OA, I love Zargabad.
jakerod 254 Posted April 27, 2011 OFP: Houdan (Memories from the Demo) or Montignac OFPR: Davle or Lipany probably. ArmA: Cayo or Obregan ArmA II: Berenzino, Vybor, or Cherno ArmA OA: Zargabad or Rasman As you can see, tough choices.
Big Dawg KS 6 Posted April 27, 2011 Everon /Close Thread The town of Everon? As in the one on Sahrani? Or the island? Also, nobody else has any love for Modrava? What about Mirov? Northwest Nogova had some of the most interesting terrain.
OldFossil 0 Posted April 27, 2011 lipanyand cant remember the exact name, but it was a town full of high rise buildings and had an industrial town feel to it on nogova Maybe you mean Petrovice, the main city in Nogova. Nice place. Many years ago I build there a nice DM environment adding buildings all around, and a castle on the surrounding hills.
