I agree, I dont use this new command system. Im too stuck in old OFP habits (1-1, 1-7, 5-4, 8-7 and so on :)) Find most new features with spacebar and that menu to be distracting and immersion breaking.

If it would be possible to disable all that it would be grand, but I guess its not that easy.

That menu is the entire reason for entering the view you're in there. You're going to assume that your units just know what you intend to order them to do I guess without selecting the type of command you wanted to order?

Or are you wanting the 3D overhead view as some kind of view option without being able to issue commands or something? Guess I'm confused.

Yes that view is designed for tactical commanding. Shame there isn't a 'screenshot' mode per se but you could always use the camera in the editor ;)

no its not.

I use the numbers, i do not need the menu, it should be a choice in difficulty settings

No he just wants the menu to be gone. Like me.

HI, you can't hide it when you're on the Tact-View, if you hit the backspace it takes you out the Tact-View; that's the problem, it makes more harm than good when you're on the Tact-View. Let's C ya

I H A T E that menu to such an extent it's impossible to describe. So far none of the UI tweaks beat the number system of Flashpoint / ArmA 1. Even though the ArmA 1 system had some flaws, it was still much better to use than the current one.

Anything that relies on the mousewheel for option selection is a dead-end: the mousewheel is so imprecise that it infuriates me when I have to deal with it. It's good for scaling the value of a single setting but not to select a single item from a list of options. Especially not when in a fight and precision is a must.

Yeah, I, too, was thinking about modding it out, I just didn't have time to get around to it. (Plus I'm a beginner at config modding.)

I have to agree it's idea is nice but it's too clumsy and you end up swearing at it a lot. The OFP way was far more intuitive. It has been annoying me since Arma1.

Hi, the problem that i've with it is not how visible it is, it's that's there slowing your actions when you've to give orders to the AIs on your command and some times even making you make mistakes; it's like a virus. You get it when you enter into the Tact-View and if you go to the map... it's there; unabling you to zoom in or zoom out and also unabling you to use any other commanding interface than that.

It's very common (at least for me) to give wrong orders to my AI because of it, sometimes you gonna order 'em to do whatever, go to somewere... do any action... but you end (by mistake because that bloody menu is there) doing that your AI go to standing possition in the middle of a firefight, or change the formation to something that exposes your AIs to the fire as that menu still there even after exit the Tact-View (where it's as useless as outside). You've to push three more keys to do something where you didn't had to push any additional key to give an order to your AI; for example... you're on the Tact-View giving orders to some of your AIs for move to somewhere or take cover, flank or whatever, then you go to the map to call for CAS, Arty or whatever.. if you want to zoom In or zoom Out, you've to:

1: Exit from the map.

2: Hit Backspace.

3: Open the map again.

If you was on the Tact-View when you'd opened the map... then:

1: Exit from the map.

2: Exit from the Tact-View.

3: Hit backspace.

4: Open the map again.

This menu only leads to mistakes while slows the things without any reason; i think that an option to turn it On or turn it Off on the config or settings will be great. Let's C ya

I agree. Some way of disabling this new command system would be nice. I understand that its more userfriendly to "new players" but for us that are used to the old number system its in the way.

A question to BIS; as the old system is still there why is the visual menues gone? Only if you know it from the old OFP you know what to press to get there, its no visual clue and very "old school only hidden". With that said I'm very glad you didnt disable it! That would be the end of controlling AI for me...

The worset problem is not the menu which will show when you are useing tect-view. But it will affact your formation if you press LMB unconsiously and you have to reset your formation again.

I just prefer the function in OFP which allows player lock traget on tect-view when you are driving a tank.

I thought the tactical view came with Arma1?

Nope, it was already in Operation Flashpoint under numpad [del]. Just lauched it to confirm. OFP command menu didn't appear automaticaly after entering tactical view but after selecting unit or hitting any order issuing numpad button. And even than you could move it away by simply hitting backspace.

If you have disabled 3rd person view in difficulty setting, you can't enter tactical view.

Rgr. Must be my memory. Or I never played with 3rd person :) Maybe I'm thinking about the quick menu. I can't recall ever having used in in OFP though. Might explain why I sucked so much at it back then (I came from Unreal Tournament competitive :))

I don't even use it. It's also a little bit confusing as I'm not sure every command is implanted in that menu - I certainly don't find them at least. As a old OFP git I usually use the numbering. 5-5, 1-3-5 and all that.

But I understand people new to ArmA 2 would need such a command menu.

But for future games I would hope it's, yet again, redesigned. Perhaps radically changed from its current and previous look.

Hi, if you switch from Tact-View to the map, to choose a new Task, or to order your AI to drive or fly to some distant point on the map... you can't; because that useless menu override any function on the map, it don't ables you to even view the tasks/objectives or notes menu, it neither allows you to Zoom In or Zoom Out on the map.

AFAIK yeah, it don't haves all the commands that you have using the numbers (the good ol' OFP's interface) and i begin to belive that's there for the/because of the consoles version, but again... it do more harm than good to those of us who're used to the old menus system, OFP's style and i think that a option to hide it on the keybinds or just to assign it to a key for deploy it in case of want it... will be a great thing. I fully agree. It even makes it harder as you can't see what number goes to which menu and I always have to tell others that don't play often.

I'd like to be able to back-space that thing to oblivion too, without being taken out of the view.

The quick menu is an extremely failed attempt at easing up the command system. It does the opposite: makes it harder because you cant see the 1-9 command system as easily.

And the quick menu on its own is nowhere near being powerful enough on its own to replace the former, despite being context sensitive.
