New Beta 72863 up!

Recommended Posts

People are saying they get stuttering after ALT+TABBING and I am wondering why you would do that when your playing a game what is on your desk tops that you need to pause the game for every 10mins?.

I suppose what I am trying to say is are you running some kind of AMRA2 editor in the back ground there for you have to ALT+TAB back desktop to make changes?.

Well sometimes you are playing a mission and you see a terrible thing going on so you quickly alt+tab out edit the script or whatever and play on. Then you find another thing, etc. So its annoying to start winowed mode just for that. In earlier versions of arma2 I was getting stuttering all the time after alt+tabbing but now it only stutters for few sec and then is cool. If you alt+tab out while in actual mission-playing then it use to stutter quite a lot for me but dunno why would alt+tab during playing. Maybe xfire ingame chat wasnt working for some:).

Ah ok thanks I was just trying to understand why its important to some like I said my main thought was some kind of editor for ARMA but now ya say Xfire setup etc I suppose that's all so another.

Exactly, I'm constantly alt-tabbing from OA. Arrowhead -> Check Biki -> Edit sqf in Notepad++ -> Back to Arrowhead and so on

Same here, but only while editor mission is running - otherwise Arma would simply hang - not crash with or without error - simply not respond anymore.

I have done a little more testing and I really do keep getting slow down near towns etc.

I cant figure out why my pc is ok

XP 32bit

Intel core two Quad Q6700

4GB ram (yes I know 32bit OS)

8800GT GPU

1680x1050 res

No shadows

No grass

No PP

etc etc

Why the frame rate hit near towns?.

This happens in 1.52 and Beta patches.

The beta works well for me W7 X64, I have 1 question however that I feel silly for asking but has bugged me ever since I got ARMA.

A small dialogue opens just before the program starts with a number of boxes with ticks in them! prior to this beta all but 1 box got a tick, now 2 boxes don't get a tick but there is no visable difference when running the program, so what do these boxes represent?

I dunno what those boxes are but there were 2 empty boxes for me since ArmA 1 1.0.

Just to make sure: Upcoming patch = no more need for Steam, right?

Please don't take this the wrong way but why on earth would every one keep ALT+TABBING all day?.

SHIFT+TAB cus that's Steam chat but not other.

I am actually asking as I really don't know why if ya playing a game ya playing a game why TAB back to desktop?.

Play it in windowed mode instead then?.

That is in Windowed Mode, and while editing it's imperative that you're able to alt-tab constantly. Also if you click on the window to get back to it, you shoot.

As for the all day thing, I gotta do some work during the day. I just alt-tab to it when the boss comes around. heh

Well then, a complete system lock IS dangerous for you, if it locks while you are in Arma 2. Shame, shame! :o

How is the visuals Quality compared to the last beta patch? Is the LOD good, and performing well? Thx. The last beta patch is like really high rez sweet for me. I don`t wanna upgrade if this patch is not at least as good.

I've not noticed any difference, Shataan.

I'm running this beta client and server side. So far, so good.

Yeah, graphical quality and performance are at least as good as 72716, LOD when zooming in is even improved a little bit.

Simple solution for those crashing when alt-tabbing, that reduces the crash-probability overall from first release of ArmA1 to current OA patch: Use the -window shortcut parameter. Speeds up alt-tabbing A LOT, reduces the crash probability even more, and with the right window size settings you've only lost like... 32 pixels vertically, no single pixel horizontally in screen space. I don't know one single existing fullscreen-game that doesn't crash if alt-tabbing in and out repeatedly, so hardly anything unique for ArmA :)

Some questions:

- What are your object detail, texture detail and view distance options set to?

- Are you using >100% fillrate and/or AA?

- What kind of framerate difference are you seeing, i.e. what average FPS do you get outside and inside towns?

Hi there thanks for the reply

every thing is set to normal apart from

AA off

Shadows off

PP off

view distance 2500m

fill rate 100% at 1680x1050

I have no means of measuring the frame rate but I will get fraps installed to let ya know but its enough to hinder it just dips down when looking in the direction of towns its stutters tbh defrag I suppose then try again.

When ARMA2 patch 1.07 was released man I was chuffed that parch allowed me to bump it all up now I am back to square one again :(.

I intend to purchase a new GPU one day so that will help but my CPU is good and should not need to be upgraded I may even OC it any ways one day.

Thanks

No problems or entries in the .rpt detected while testing the new beta yesterday.

Performance wise no difference to the last one (which is quite good for me).

Well, performance in areas with a bigger number of buildings is a bit lower than elsewhere, but I think MadDogX explained it well.

I think its more important to have almost every building enter-able with some modelled interiors than a perfect performance in these areas.

On the ALT-TAB problem. My problem was fixed when i start running ARMA in a window AND I use the -NOPAUSE in the startup line so windows keeps giving it processor time! No more hanging for me :-)

When in windowed mode and you go to another window, by default Arma 2 will be "paused", and will reload when you click back to it's window. With -nopause, this doesn't happen and it continues running as per normal despite not being on the window itself.
