Why I will never buy any of your games ever again.
artisanal replied to bez's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Yeah, well actually they (and I mean Bohemia Interactive) did brag not so long ago about the fact they finally managed to separate the renderer from the rest of the engine for DayZ (see the whole "Enfusion engine" story). Ok, it's not the same engine which is used, but I guess they got some experience for that matter now. It would'nt suprise me at all if we'd see something along this type of separation at the engine and renderer level added to the game during this year or in 2016 (yes I'm quite careful, as you can notice). -
Enfusion bears some very nice features/promises, like REAL dynamic lights and shadows (no more disco lights in towns at night) and some other stuff. Fyi, the dayz dev team worked quite hard to separate the renderer from the "core" engine (scripts, ai and so forth). The new renderer as far as I understood is going to be the one used in Take on Mars and Carrier Command See : Link Edit : So Sethos, you may be right to some extent, but I think that DayZ looks quite good in the actual state (I even think that the game has way better and more realistic character, clothe, weapon models and textures than ArmA 3, but this belongs to the subjective aspect I guess). The huge difference between these 2 games is that DayZ doesn't support Dx 11 (btw, where are some star features in ArmA 3 in first place, like tesselation?).

Did someone say Enfusion ?

Arma 3 STABLE Server 2.18 "profiling / performance binary" feedback
artisanal replied to Dwarden's topic in ARMA 3 - SERVERS & ADMINISTRATION
I tested the 1st one tonight. We were 80~ players and the fps was capped at 20-22 fps. Quite difficult to conduct some CQB action in these conditions :P As a result, I camped like b*** outside of Kavala -
You're right, but you missed the ironic point of my post. See for example -> http://www.huffingtonpost.com/trevor-martin/the-ultimate-gay-destinat_b_3895296.html

Fair enough LJ! My post was only to point out the fact that, generally speaking, professionnal (hired) sound devs are binded to some constraints, which don't allow them to go for the obvious solution. The situation is only getting worse when they don't have access to the necessary means, like sound libraries etc... Nonetheless, I highly salute your work which is a great overhaul to the general feel of the game. Many in our community stick with JSRS at the very moment. Cheers! -
Laxemann's "Enhanced Soundscape" (L_ES) - Gun reverb and echo based on terrain
artisanal replied to laxemann's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
At last news, engine sounds are hardcoded in the engine, and are not affected by speed of sound. How to test this easily ? Make a heli crash : you'll notice that the engine sound stops simultaneously with the crash but the explosion of the crash is delayed by speed of sound. This counts for every vehicle. -

You all may be right about BIS sounds, but don't forget this : professionnal sound designers have to work with high quality sound samples, which has a cost in money and time (if you want to make a realistic game, you have to grab some sounds of the real deal, or even record them yourself with your team). Look at battlefield 3 or 4. The sounds used in those games are not only convincing but are actually very high quality samples. In the end, you have to take into account that BIS isn't DICE (EA), that they absolutely don't have the same level of funding, and don't do the same type of games (the list of priorities for a3 is very different than the one for battlefield 4). Edit : for example, the BI sound devs at work http://www.armedassault.info/ftp/pics/news/pics1/oprep_sound_roadmap_3.jpg (133 kB) -

Waiting till 4th of november. Geez, what a bummer :( -
I top the idea to be able to use the TKOH heli's, especially for those who own the game :) Edit : ArmA 3 rearmed anyone ?
-
I looked after the new sounds but didn't find 'em. Is it normal doc ?
-
I actually love the facial expressions (ok, they may be a little bit too overplayed for some)! I think it's a huge step forward in comparison to the totally lame/neutral expressions we have to bare with in the actual game...

I'm quite hyped about your project, but help me to correctly understand this statement of yours : Do you mean that you programmed something similar to ? That would hugely improve the immersion !Edit : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-T1MYQ41Gd8 This video is even more clear ! -
