So I was playing Ravage on both Donnie and other DayZ type ARMA 3 RAVAGE servers and I had 2 ideas for MP Survival mode or persistent servers: 1) Make the landscape objects into small hidden storage space by "crafting" or virtually cutting a hole into it. Think huge tree bark, stumps, rocks, or other larger "minimum x radius sized landscape objects", barrels and etc... that would be "operated on" with a knife, axe or other tool type object. Then we hide or stash some loot to be accessed later. I had this idea while watching Devil's Rejects when Otis took 2 hostages to go "dig up some guns". I mean, why do we HAVE to build a base or use a tent that is a huge target? Why can't we hide guns under rocks "virtually" or in a barrel or dumpster? Of course, other players can "find" these stashes if they knew where to look or just render damage to the stored items over time if not retrieve for game balance and DB cleanup for example. 2) Another idea and this is more a space saving idea: Compatibility with these melee weapons mods so that it can act as both TOOLS and Weapons! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1453659903&searchtext=melee https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1235058999&searchtext=melee https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2291129343&searchtext=melee Knives can be weapon and do knive "tool" things like cut animal, cloth, etc... AX can be weapon and chop wood Sword can be both without having to carry BOTH a tool knife AND another melee weapon. Just consolidate the classes so long as the player has it on their body, vest or bagpack to double use. It would allow the player to do more with less. I am unsure if Ravage is still in active development, and I saw a ton of mods for DayZ SA but I still like the flexibility of ARMA 3 with Ravage more. Maybe DAYZSA or ARMA 4 RAVAGE have more memory to allow bigger functional arrays.

I think there is something off about the mod or the config.cpp files are not listing the vehicles names correctly. I tested it by loading ARMA into VR map with the mod, dropped each vehicle with crew onto the map then highlighted the names, and copy and pasted it into the unitclasses.sqf in the missions SUB FOLDED de-pbo'ed. Then loaded the mission in SP or MP mode. SP would throw up the error, MP would just hang. I will check it one vehicle at time to see which ones vehicles work or not. Thank you for the help!

I've have been trying to edit the basic vanilla escape on stratis mission to create a custom unitclasses.sqf. I changed the AI units and it works. But when I add another mod's vehicles, and start up the game, it says something like "cannot find search heli. unit must have defined name." This happens if the default heli is used, but if I added a tank or another vehicle to the O or I lists for example. Do I have to actually REPLACE the existing units instead of adding to it? Or are there other related script files I need to update as well? I do not want to change the map spawn locations or compositions. Just mainly the vehicles and AI units and some of the weapons available from the crates. Appreciate any advice.

I think you need to use Vandeanson's Apocalypse mod in addition to Ravage to get that feature along with loot spawining and food/hunger. There is also an older mod, Hero's Survive mod that is works similarly, but Vandeanson's is known to work with Ravage.

I wanted to ask would it be possible to extend Ravage with BOSS enemies? JohnnyBoy is working on a bunch of abominations, and in the workshop, we have other zombies, spooks, ghouls, Aliens and etc... But perhaps we can just have these types sorted into a BOSS class where it may randomly appear X% of the time? Just to keep the players on their toes. It might be an artifact mission to find something but it would release or trigger one of these bosses from said artifact. It could be like space prison that fell or was left on earth a long (or not so long) time ago.

If you had tried to move ARMA over, move it back. Then reboot your system. Your SSD maybe running out of space. If you get a BSOD with Cxx0005 errors, it is memory related. PS: you should try to format your writing. It is hard to read a full wall of text!

So do this, just run ARMA with no mods. I actually think it is running out of RAM, then thrashing the HDD then crashing. I run ARMA with 32 GB of RAM. Even when people told me 16 GB was enough, but when you run a game with MODS you need more RAM in 64 bit mode, then even the OS needs to reserve about 2-3 GB alone to keep it running (Windows 7 x64 for me). It was only when I upgraded to 32GB then my game stopped crashing with MODS. With no MODS, 16 GB is enough. Also, you should use STEAM and MOVE the ARMA game folder to the SSD if you can afford the space. The HDD gets beat on heavily with ARMA it streams the MAP assets when you are moving around. If you read the what should I get to play ARMA thread, people recommend a FAST CPU, 16 GB of FAST RAM and SSD at the minimum. We don't need a super fast GPU to play it but it helps when loading a ton of models like on Tanoa map or mods.

Will-my-pc-run-Arma3? What cpu/gpu to get? What settings? What system specifications?
Valken replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
I was always looking at Corsair AIO! The Artic AIO are about 99 USD from Amazon! Not a bad price at all but it seems there may be some quality issues with the fans. Good advice! 99 USD is not bad for 240 mm AIO! -
You are using on CPU video graphics? Hard locking is either bad drivers or now enough power or overheating. You can isolate it by launching the game, set your video graphics settings all the way down to LOW. Then run the game. It will put most of the requirements onto your CPU, and NOT the video or GPU. If it crashes, it may be your CPU overheating (it should not as it should throttle down) or your PSU is not giving enough power or your motherboard VRM near the CPU are overheating. Put a fan near the VRM to isolate this or at least open your case or point a FAN near the CPU area. If you are stable, then you can try to increase the resolution and monitor your RAM temperatures. If your RAM overheats, point a fan on top of the RAM. If it becomes stable, you will know the RAM was overheating. Lastly, if CPU, RAM and POWER are all OK, then start to increase your video quality. or update the graphics drivers.

@Groove_CGood advice. We just need to find the right MB with good VRMs and a heatsink that will allow the 10600K to OC to 5 GHZ without thermal throttling. It appears it requires a 240 mm AIO Water cooler to achieve this. That is around 200 USD more! But this would apply to any CPU when OC'ed anyways as the stock cooler cannot allow MAX OC and stability. -

I was looking at the new 11x series again. Seems the 11400F may be the killer buy right now. 6 cores up to 4.4 GHZ but the power usage is high. Needs a water cooler! Or maybe a 10400K or 10600K OC'ed to 5+ GHZ with B450 MB and fast RAM with good power control maxed out. It is too bad the Ryzen 5600X and 5 series are so expensive right now. -

What if you create a new model that is transparent and just "switch" to it to change the silhouette then apply the effects? Then switch back to the original model or clothing when it gets turned OFF? I could see this having a problem if trying to create a malfunctioning effect, cycling it on and off intermittently, but it would at least get the option working for now.- 59 replies

Did you try to use the ARMA 3 LAUNCHER, click on PARAMETERS, ALL PARAMETERS and select HOST, SERVER? It would launch ARMA 3 into DEDICATED SERVER MODE with all the mods from a PRESET. You can do this to TEST it on your PC or remote machine if you cannot launch it properly with the command line.

I want THANK YOU W0lle and CWR3 team as well! I just loaded up the editor and nearly shed many tears seeing Victor Troska!!! I hope we see a followup mission where Victor has NEW adventures. I don't want to spoil the CWC RESISTANCE CAMPAIGN for those who never played it. Can I have a request : Someone PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE port ESCAPE over to CWR3?! So we have the NATO team - try to escape from Guba, and vice versa, Guba and his team escaping NATO but only with CWR3 period setting weapons, gear and vehicles on CWR3 and CUP CWC MAPS! It would help revitalize CWR3 in the ARMA 3 community until the campaign is done! Lastly, PLEASE advise at least the separated NATO and Russian gear lists (weapons, AI classes and vehicles) so we can hack up a quick test mission for ESCAPE?!

Can someone PLEASE for the LOVE of JEBUS port Escape to Cold War Rearmed 3: Make it period specific for the CWR and CUP CWA MAPS! Or point to the tutorial so we can try it ourselves! Thank you!

Valken replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
ARMA is an odd game engine in that 3D rendering is usually REALLY optimized, for the size of the maps. But the AI and in game FUNCTIONS such as explosions or physics are ALL CPU calculations. And since the engine runs these scripts only using 1 thread or 1 core, your CPU speed + RAM performance will GREATLY affect it. So on the server, if there are tons of AI or players, it would depend on the SERVER CPU performance. When you play in COOP or Single Player, YOUR CPU performance will GREATLY affect you for AI, physics and game effects!!! Just wanted to set your expectations. If I were you, get RAM as fast as possible. Read backwards this thread for about 5-8 pages and STUDY the graphs we have show. Here, I did some work for you. Goto these pages and READ through it: Look at the BENCHMARK GRAPHS of CPU and RAM speeds. Note the CL or CAS LATENCY of those RAM. It greatly affects the performance. The BEST buy options right now NEW would be either an Intel 10x00 CPU, NOT the new 11x00, or Ryzen 3 5x00 series with FAST RAM, and SSD. You can see the Ryzen broke 100 FPS in standard for the first time. That is incredible for this game engine! -

Valken replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
You should make sure your RAM's Cas Latency is as low as possible. 3200 is relatively slow. Intel can get the pure MHZ high or latency low like CL14 @ 3800 or even 4200 with CL 16/17. Then your CPU side will be optimized. Buy the fastest RAM you can afford to not leave performance on the table. -
ARMA 3 Addon Request Thread
Valken replied to max power's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
We were playing some long hardcore escape on Outkast's servers and I thought of the need for this mod: Combo FFV and Open Vehicle doors mod so players can: ride in a vehicle with a door open the door without getting out (maybe just animate the leg closes to the door, extended out, pushing the door open) and enable the ability to SHOOT while it is still moving, still in your seat. Maybe optional seat belt function if we crash to prevent players from flying out. Example at 4:10 seconds mark: Explosions, decapitations, etc... should be left to other mods We were sitting ducks while in a closed door vehicle and getting shot at. We only had 2 options.. Keep driving or stop, get out and shoot back. A 3rd option would have been nice while going down in a blaze of glory! 😄 -

Will-my-pc-run-Arma3? What cpu/gpu to get? What settings? What system specifications?
Valken replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
@Tankbusterfor ARMA, it will nearly always be this: 2 cores or more Highest IPC per core (currently it IS Ryzen, but Intel can level the playing field IF CPU clock speed OC'ed) Highest possible boost or OC'ed clock speed Lowest CORE TO CORE latency (really significant on Intel 10x000 series and Ryzen 3's) LOWEST RAM LATENCY possible + a) HIGHEST RAM FREQUENCY 1:1 with infinity if Ryzen b) HIGHEST RAM FREQUENCY on Intel CPU with lowest latency SSD or RAM DRIVE GPU should be 1060 6GB GTX performance if at 1080P Ultra resolution. You can go up to 1080 Ti or 2070 type GPU for 4K. Any other game, you need to check GPU requirements. I would never consider any of the onboard GPU to be good enough for Ultra, but possible medium settings depending on VRAM configuration as it uses onboard main memory. The Ryzen APU 4x00 series are a total beast though. It really gets RAM up to 4800 1:1 Infinity clocked whereas the Ryzen 3 CPUS can barely get close to 4000 MHZ! It seems the sweet spot is ~ 3800 MHZ! But I am not sure if the 6 cores Ryzen 3 APU are out yet. It only has 4 cores at the moment. -
units SSF Factions and Faction Overhauls
Valken replied to jarrad96's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
I think that is GOOD idea for servers and people with low RAM. Not everyone can load up RHS, CUP, SMA AND NIARMS, but in SP, I like the individual packs so I can choose each faction to have nearly customized arms. It is way more interesting, but super resource heavy. Honestly, I would buy more RAM just for ARMA due to all the variety that can be available but not everyone will do this. So YES, it is great idea to streamline for server operators or LOW RAM players.- 874 replies

Re-watching Die Hard 4 and came across this scene with the F35 hovering like a heli in near CQB battle with the protagonist. Can a player actually fly a modded F35 like this in game or are the physics too complicated? Mods please move if this is not the appropriate forum.

v1 script released JBOY Giant v1
Valken replied to johnnyboy's topic in ARMA 3 - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
OMG I do not WANT to overwhelm you BUT I had this weird idea or fetish to see those damn DWARVES from the movie Phantasm (was doing a full series binge) and I cannot help but think those little pukes would scare the crap out of everyone in any game. Just use the OLD people faces, including support for MAX Women, use the Middle East Robes or the Priest Outfit from CUP but add a mask to cover the lower half of the face, color it dark brown and walla! Add gurgle or weird pitch sounds. Match them up with some knee chopping melee weapons and there we go! Think shrunken cultist from the classic FPS game BLOOD! Tall man can be just almost any face with long white hair really in a suit. Scale him up to ~ 7 foot tall though! Maybe we can crowd source a composition library to help! -
Would be cool to see a VTOL pilot challenge.
