How do you have a helicopter drop off troops while under fire?
benjamin1 replied to diablo109's topic in ARMA 3 - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
From the top of my head i think it's under Empty > objects (somewhere in empty) it's called invisible (H) if i remember -
Amphibious vehicles seem to sink to the bottom of the sea, when dropping into the water sideways(90 degr) (e.g from the edge of a dock), exiting the vehicle when on the bottom results in a falling animation of the crew instead of swimming.

So .. yes you included a picture of a group of female soldiers in your post, what does that have to proof? that it's beneficial ? As for 3d programs I have to disapoint you, I work with 3d programs all the time as it is part of my job. As for education, i don't see a discussion of including or not including female soldiers in a game part of academic reasoning or higher education.

In my opinion the only logical way of adding women to A3 for filling a combat role would be within some civilian based resistant group, that don't follow an official military protocol. Besides that, i agree on the arguments above that it would be technically a pain to implement, and for what purpose ? i don't see it really contributing anything Besides, i want to die a man, not a woman :D

1) love the amphibious vehicle water <=> land transitions. 2) Great solution of delaying entry/exit of helicopters with the animations (has a small animation weight problem) 3) The challenges are an excellent way to get acquainted with the new movement mechanics 4) I think the vehicles have their own authentic charisma by their sounds movement, looks, one does really have the sense of controlling a different vehicle The 3d scopes were a logical step in evolution of scopes, but I do think that the black viewport from inside armored vehicles doesn't really compliment the overall improvements i wonder if we will see any improvements

Don't forget, we're talking alpha material here, improved medic system, doesn't necessarily imply introducing something entirely new, but could rather mean tuning things differently. i think the term first aid kit suggests enough vs a med kit and role of the specialist 'medic', FAKs are to get yourself on your feet(patch yourself up) which is crucial, as in Arma 3, being wounded slows you down, and lags you behind in a squad. I agree that we haven't seen much of the use of FAKs and the medical specialist relation in the alpha, i'm pretty convinced the whole FAK concept will turn into a beautiful butterfly in the beta.

Arma 3: Confirmed features | info & discussion
benjamin1 replied to Maio's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
I'm not sure if this has been covered already but the animation previewer is a nice Crystal ball to look into, Did anyone see the 'getout' animations for the so called 'Mantis' ? The animation suggests it's some sort of boat. -
On the E3 livestream there was a bit of the actual game, showing mission control, and the rover building lab (you can combine rover parts together based on the available budget), which can then be taken for a test spin on earth before the actual mars mission. If i understood correctly the game will be 10 bucks and release at the end of july

We need a action command for landing helicopters on demand.
benjamin1 replied to COMMANDOBLACK's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
You can order your squad if you are a squad leader to enter a helicopter that is in-flight (which isn't in the same group) and it will land to pick up your squad and continue it's business, very useful to shuttle troops around. You do have a point on being able to do this on an individual level. As i think a large map such as Altis brings a logistic problem along, in terms of covering larges areas and moving from point A to point B (or even worse, point Z) :D -
Well yes and no, i think it's good that the Alpha and Beta have limited content in terms of development, obviously they strictly want us to test just a specific part of the game within a certain amount of time and close that chapter, without letting us focus (or distracting us as testers) on any other content that needs testing, and i guess the flow of bug reports would be gigantic for such a relative small team. And is instead now flowing in a more controlled way. It seems now we are entering Beta with a in my opinion a good working infantry or at least with a controllable amount of bugs, or doesn't require as much focus of us as alpha testers. I'm pretty sure some stuff will be added during the beta, like the pleasant surprise of the sniper package

They said 'no tracked vehicles' which includes of course the MBT main battle tanks, beta is of course the final stage before full release, so maybe they come in the second half of the beta. who knows :D

Has AI Skill Been Addressed Yet, or even mentioned by devs?
benjamin1 replied to bigshot's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
Is it the AI that is such a straight shot? or is it the extreme interpretation of recoil that handicapped us? might be a bit of both I think the problem is that the AI aiming doesn't reflect/match up with the skill of player controlled entities, i wonder if an exhausted enemy has the same effect on aiming as it's human enemy. It could be in the factor of detection vs simulated aiming time. I'm really curious how this will unfold in upcoming builds. -
Thats were i got worried too, but this green army is (one) army on the independent side, it may or not be just a more powerful faction among others of the independent affiliate. if you look at the livestream you see they have regular gloves which may tell something about their inventory. Also since Blueforce and Opforce share the same quality of equipment, i'm sure we will see some contrasts in the other factions.

Arma 3: Community wishes & ideas- NO DISCUSSION
benjamin1 replied to Maio's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
What i really would like to see is the ability to gathering intel through direct and indirect observations. individual squads/groups of the same affiliation able to directly (map)share intel on enemy positions and types. In Arma2 this could be done by asking a soldier or civilian from another group. why not share this information as a collective(all friendlies on the map) I think this opens up new tactical opportunities. -
it would be cool if a poll could be made on the subjects/questions the community like to see highlighted in the next livestream, the chat was really 'noisy'

I think ragdoll can be a very nice addition if executed with restrain, as we seen in the newer videos of Arma 3 showing ragdoll, the soldiers drop to their knees when hit. More like two sequences of ragdoll effect doesn't seem it will be exaggerated. I think ragdoll within Arma would contribute to the game play, as it produces some what authentic ways of falling, but of course also the lying dead posture would be be authentic, In Arma 2 we are able to identify a dead body from a distance since we are some what familiar with it's lying position/visual signature. I think with ragdoll this would change. As it changes this visual signature, From this approach an out of sync(mp) ragdoll won't harm anything except if you can't stand the 'idea' that nobody sees the ragdoll as you see it.:)

It is of course a good cause to get 'personal' with a community, if we look for example at the support for the detained developers. But personaly i find it hard to understand why sharing 'internal' company information like this update with a community. As it does not per se signal the game itself. I understand the 'control over content release/preview' that might not reflect anything final. But i think especialy this state of becoming/development is intresting to the community. Instead of showing something final, show the process of making the game, alá look over the developer shoulder report. I would say, if you have it, flaunt it.

I guess these snippets are pretty fresh too althou they are from last year so nothing to rely on:

As far as i'm aware, this presentation was already done before (can't remember where) but there was very little to nothing new to see except for this driving scene:
