OA Campaign: 07 "Eye of the Typhoon"

Recommended Posts

I have attempted to beat this mission numerous times to no avail. My efforts have included:

1. Changing difficulty levels

2. Accomplishing objectives in different orders

3. Not saving/saving the POWs

It feels, to be honest, like Manhattan did before ArmA2 was patched. Each time I accomplish all objectives the mission doesn't end. This happens in both single player and when hosted in multiplayer.

Anyone else experiencing the same problem?

Well I finally "beat" the mission. It seems that much like "Open Season" the mission won't end until you fail,

Aziz escapes.

I finished the 3 goals successfully (the dictator was killed by some of the allied forces, i rescued the POWs, and stopped the SCUDs), and the mission didn't end.

In whatever case, it was the last mission for me, i finished it with the endmission cheat and the credits were the next thing to see.

I didn't finish the mission because of absolutely bad performance (low FPS / stuttering). :) How were your frames?

Other than that (when I still was trying to play) I didn't find the POWs at (and around) the position they were supposed to be...

Here's how my attempts played out:

1. I chose to save the POWs, got to the palace and the POWs were dead, I restarted. (I think I was too slow in getting there)

2. I chose to save the POWs, I get there and they are alive. Then I get a call saying Aziz is driving off in his SUV somewhere but some Allied choppers are pursuing him. So I figure I'll finish off the SCUDS and his villa. Sometime during all that I got a message that he escaped, which leads to mission 08.

Yeah that's what was really frustrating for me too. After I finally failed the two major objectives I won (or at least the mission completed), which was kind of surprising.

So were you able to play the mission with some decent FPS?

I found Aziz running around with the some Takistani soldier in the north of Zargrabad on the road leading to another small town. I didn't even see his SUV at the villa. Also, did anyone see the dead pilot ( Airforce guy) at Aziz's villa mentioned by Sgt Drake when questioning the POWs? Is there a way to save him as well?

Hmm just finished OA campaign.... POWs died and I don't know how Aziz died, because when I was in the building trying to save the POWs one of the soldiers said that Aziz was eliminated (something like that) Still love OA :)

Exactly the same here, terrible fps in Zargabad, and when I went looking for the POW's the mission icon was floating 30 feet in the air in the middle of an open area!!

For my part:

1) i accepted to rescue hostage at the begining

2) but i destroyed SCUDs first.

3) then i saved POWs in the Palace but the pilot is missing

4) i got several messages about Aziz, telling first he is around, on the map the "Villa" is ticked as an objective, but just 10 seconds after, the next message tells Aziz died! No time to go there to check: End of mission, and campaign.

In the Débriefing, ALL hostages seems rescued, so what about the Pilot?!!

I actually got this finished:

Went to grab the POWs, blew up part of the compound wall with TOWs and stormed inside. Saved their asses. Heard Aziz was in the area immediately after in an SUV, but then immediately after that I got another radio message saying he'd gotten out of my area and a chopper was being dispatched to get him.

I then decided to waltz around and whack the SCUDs in the area. Following this, I wandered up to Aziz's villa and cleared it, and found one of the hostages dead on the roof (the pilot, I assume, who had all the classified info about him). Straight after this, and it seemed unrelated, but I got the message that Aziz had been blown into a million small pieces and the mission ended shortly thereafter.

Highly odd, but I didn't have to do Mission 8 - it went straight to the press conference following that.

Had to turn off basically everything in order to make this mission playable. In the end; hostages killed when I FINALLY got to them - that thing was a bitch from reload hell!! And the VIP escaped!! Bah, brilliant :p Will retry though, was not too happy with the following end scene.

It's kind of frustrating mission. In my part:

1. I chose not to save POWs

2. Destroying SCUDs, meanwhile I've got message with Aziz in SUV

3. Went to Aziz's mansion, kill some guards and BTR but Aziz wasn't there.

Mission won't end :(

Also this scenario is very hardware demanding. Zargabad + about 200 units, explosions etc. I had 10 fps almost all the time.

My thoughts about possible fixes:

- reduce number of troops by half

- use "allowdamage false" on choopers at mission start

simply can't complete this, FPS is shockingly low i can barely aim or turn to see who is shooting at me, so i guess I'll have to use the endmission cheat which is a real shame :(

For those of you with low FPS, have you tried turning down your settings? It runs fine on mine and my computer sucks. I just play it with everything on low or very low, no shadows, etc. It was still a kick-ass mission.

How I Won:

They asked me about the hostages and I accepted. I drove up the road to the group of buildings between Zargabad and I. I had two of my men man the Bradley and the other three get out and cover its flanks. I went up on a 3-story building's roof with a MK17 Sniper and took out most of the guards around the mosque. I told my Bradley to target a nearby BMP and it did so although I finished it off with a rocket. We drove straight to the mosque I ran over a few guys in the courtyard. I had my 3 men secure the Bradley's flanks again.

I cleared the mosque, rescued the hostages and then proceeded to the scud in the east. I took that out, came back and got in the Bradley and took out the one in the north and the one in the west. I then drove back to the one in the east and got a message saying complete. I went after Aziz at the palace and my gunner took out his car. Him and two others got out. I chased Aziz around the palace for a while killing anyone else I found. I lost Aziz.

Then I saw him running through a field and drove after him. I got out pulled my pistol shot at his legs, missed. He turned and I put two bullets in him. Victory!

I had playable framerate with G8800 mind you... (above 20 that is) and no problems to finish the mission multiple times.

Played multiple times, all objectives met:

- Scuds are obvious...

- POW are on the Mosque Rooftop

- Aziz is fleeing north from the Villa in a black SUV for those wondering. When radio says it's nearby, it means actually near the villa... and he often gets killed by other US forces before you can get to him. There seem to be no way to capture him alive, you have to shoot him to stop.

I set everything as low as possible to make it playable too. Still pretty jumpy on my crappy pc. I saved pows and blew up scuds but Aziz got away which led to next mission to kill him. That was a blast imo.

Exactly where north does he escape to ? What road leading to what town, Hazar Bagh, Nango, Azizayt ?

Which 4 digit number on the map is nearest his location ?

Actually, I shot Aziz in the leg a few times and he fell over dead. To my surprise, in the debriefing, it stated that Aziz was in US custody so he may just appear dead but captured.

beat it after a few tries.

1. Ignored those tree-hugging hostages. Shouldn't have been there.

2. TOW'ed (get it?!) some scuds. Got two, then they told me they were all destroyed.

3. heard Aziz was heading towards us and I just happened to be in the area of the villa and saw his SUV. Killed the guards, and took down the SUV. Aziz got out and got a taste of the Bradley's 25mm cannon.

4. After Scuds and Aziz went down, my toon "wanted" to go after the hostages, so we drove in and wrecked the place. Found the hostages dead.

5. Cut to the press conference where the press bitched at me about losing the hostages.

This mission is kind of gay.

If you even get a glimpse of Aziz you report it = hostages dead.

I mean, I never were anywhere near the villa when I spotted the SUV and reported it... Thus when I went after the hostages, they were dead... really bad ending selection.

Similar thing is in the mine assault mission. You can actually sometimes see 3 peole in the hangar with hostage and kill 2 soldiers, but still, the guy ends up dead in the end...
