hebccc 10 Posted June 7, 2010 I have just got ARMA 2. Can anyone tell me the maximum number of computers I can install the game on at the same time, and the maximum reinstalltions can I make with the same serial code? I have heard that I need online activation, after that do I need the disk inserted into the computer in order to play? Thank you.
Big Dawg KS 6 Posted June 7, 2010 Where did you buy it from? I'm not sure it makes a difference though since I don't think any distributions of ArmA 2 have a limited number of installations or any other sort of weird DRM stuff.
Deadfast 43 Posted June 7, 2010 Boxed versions can be installed on any number of computers any number of times. You just can't play multiplayer at the same time.
jw custom 56 Posted June 7, 2010 There's no need for the disc to play after patch 1.05 is applied and there's no limit in how many times you can install ArmA 2 if you have the DVD version, not sure how it works with digital downloads though!
Jelliz 10 Posted June 7, 2010 You just can't play multiplayer at the same time. AFAIK you can, but it might/will get your serial blacklisted, or trigger FADE(anti-piracy system).

I'm fairly certain the same can be said for the Steam version. You can install it on any computer through Steam as long as you're logged into your account. There shouldn't be any maximum number of installations, and I'm pretty sure there's no limit as to how many different computers you can install it on. And obviously with Steam you have to have internet connection to install the game, though it does have an offline mode (which I really don't know much about to be honest) so you could still probably play offline. Jack 0 Posted June 7, 2010 The only thing you have to be careful of is installing the game with WinE. IIRC that will set off FADE and you'll be screwed.
hebccc 10 Posted June 7, 2010 Thank you very much for all the replies! I love this forum, you get replies very quickly. So there is no maximum number of computers I can install the game on and I can reinstall it as many times as I want. The only thing you have to be careful of is installing the game with WinE. IIRC that will set off FADE and you'll be screwed. Yes, setting off FADE is the issue that I'm most afraid of. But, what do you mean by installing the game with WinE? And what is IIRC? Jack 0 Posted June 7, 2010 WinE is Wine is not an Emulator www.winehq.org . It's compatibility layer software for Linux, primarily used to run Windows applications and games that you would otherwise not be able to install on Linux.
Deadfast 43 Posted June 7, 2010 I wonder where you got the information about Wine and Fade from. ARMA 2 doesn't work with Wine at all.

I am curious about whether games and software for Windows can be run smoothly with Wine in Linux. Or would need higher spec to do so? Can someone tell? I heard playing with wine and fade is a hell of a lot of fun :D
jerryhopper 286 Posted June 10, 2010 Ah, I see. I am curious about whether games and software for Windows can be run smoothly with Wine in Linux. Or would need higher spec to do so? Can someone tell? u could start with reading the games compatibility list on winehq, and ppl's comments there. btw: your cdkey dont get blacklisted if you try mp with same serial. its only fade that kicks in with 'public' serials. if someone joins a game where the same key is used, he simply wont get in. but what's the point trying the things above, if you already know the answer. Component Actual 10 Posted June 23, 2010 A modified game executable will activate FADE sooner or later. And I run ArmA2 on Win7 x64 (6 GB) for several hours a day and never had any out of memory errors nor crashes. Just curious do you have an ATI or Nvidia card? Just curious. I really dont know why some people experience the out of memory errors and others do not. But if you dont believe it is a common problem just type in ARMA2 out of memory into google or these very forums. Search for ARMA2 memory leak as well if you just like seeing all the posts about it lol. But yeah I think BIS is finnaly staritng to pay some attention to this problem as indicated by their last beta patch 71548 with the increase the cache file size, for systems with more than 4GB of RAM (64bit OS's). As far as FADE goes I hope your wrong for my own sake. But it has been two days now and nothing too odd has happened while playing, that is nothig that I can't write off as just the usual bugs or mods acting up. But in those two days I have had 0 out of memory errors. Although I have had 2 appcrashes (CTD') dont know the cause of. Probably the modified exe. But still that is better than I usually do. So if I really have unlimited installs I will just keep uninstalling and reinstalling then patching the exe to be LARGEADDRESSAWARE until FADE kicks in cuz that is better then relaunching every 30 mins cuz of an out of memory error. Or turning all settings down to very low just to get by a town without crashing, and just keep my fingers crossed that they fix it in the next beta.
W0lle 1052 Posted June 23, 2010 Single Nvidia GTX280 here. I'm not saying the memory errors are not there, just that I haven't seen any here yet. :)
Dwarden 1125 Posted June 23, 2010 there is no point to modify the binary for LAA flag as latest beta is fully LAA ready
gossamersolid 155 Posted June 23, 2010 I haven't seen out of memory error since 1.04, personally.
Component Actual 10 Posted June 24, 2010 @Dwarden which beta are you referring to? It looks like I fell behind on the Beta Builds. I was still using 71548 and now i see they got into the 71700's.
