Shooting Infantry weapons from inside of a vehicle

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, just wondering if there is going to be the ability to shoot your own, handheld weapon from inside of a vehicle. I believe that this feature was missing from ArmA 2, so i was wondering if it will be in the expansion? I think this is a good idea as there comes a time in ArmA when its just yourself in a Humvee or civilian vehicle, and some enemy troops are walking towards you. And you don't have the time to get out and run, or drive away (may be out of fuel). Including this feature will enhance the gameplay and realism of the game.

Looking forward to the release date, will be buying it as soon as it comes out.

Keep up the good work

I want to see this as well, vehicles like the Humvees are pretty useless right now because the only place you could shoot from is the turret. Would be nice if we could see use being able to shoot from all windows.

It's possible under the VBS2 engine, seen it in one of their videos - Whether they will be including it in OA or not, is still uncertain.

One of the least important features in my opinion, but why not.

one of the most important features in my opinion, so that offsets your opinion and balances things out.

Least important? Isn't realism the most important thing in ArmA2 right now? So this would be high ranking as far as i'm concerned gameplay wise. I'd rather have shooting out of vehicles than a dynamic town generator, but thats just my opinion.

I am dreaming that you could shoot out of a car window! No chance I would be getting VBS2, so, I'm still dreaming. :(

As long as it's nearly impossible to hit anything while driving at speed then I support this idea.

Yeah, we don't want to be able to accurately shoot a sniper rifle from a moving vehicle lol.

Would certainly make riding in the back of vehicles, or on littlebird benches less like your a sitting duck, not likely to hit much but being able to put suppression/return fire upon ambushers so as to allow an escape would be useful.

I think it's unlikely though, historically a fairly in-demand feature, and so if the devs haven't mentioned it by now then it's probably not in I'm sorry to say.

Agreed. I can point out numerous times where I could've engaged an enemy target but was unable to, as I was sitting in a vehicle/aircraft. These situations usually ended with me dying from the aforementioned enemy's actions.

Man 1: "Shoot him!"

Man 2: "I can't! I'm sitting down!"

You're probably right. Maybe in a patch or DLC this will be implemented.

I made a mission this morning where the squad I was in had to get into a humvee m240, every time we came across a contact the squad leader ordered us out of the car to engage (except the gunner). Adding this feature would definitely fix this...

@ 3:12 - So it's in the engine, just a matter of BIS opening up for it in OA.

It *can* be done in ArmA2 through mods (Generation Kill mod will make it possible for example). However it is pretty limited in what weapons you could use since the weapon itself would need to be available as proxy in the vehicle model and defined as a turret in the window-position. Due to the vast amount of weapons available in addons it is not feasible to do so, since only a handful of weapons would be possible to fire (or at least visually represented) on the vehicle

The closest thing I can think of (a temporary compromise) is to have a fixed weapon in the window of a vehicle, similar to the GMV Humvee formerly in the ACE 2 mod.

Yep. That's a good example. It'd be like that, just the weapon would be invisible unless in use (or at least the seat occupied) and the weapon could be a whole range of weapons, instead of the static ones on that GMV.

Doing it better than that won't happen for multiplayer though unless there's proper support added to the game engine.

I think Sakura Chan had done some scripted version of this, and showed us a screenshot of SLA trooper in UAZ with his AK up. Also, Project Reality said on their features list, that shooting personal weapons out of vehicles would be possible

There's a fella working on a "Generation Kill Mod" where he has apparently written scripts that will allow for shooting from a moving vehicle. Why the dev's never applied this to the original game is a bit of a question, however.

Because without quite some additions to the engine it can't be done in a *that* good way. It can be done in two ways at the moment without proper engine support, and this is by script updating the character position locked to a place i nthe vehicle, either with attachTo or something that imitates attachTo, or by premade turrets in the vehicle where proxies for the weapons need to be added, thus limiting the amount of different weapons to what the modeller can be bothered to add to the vehicle and to what mods it will require.

The first way is totally multiplayer-incompatible, and the other limited in weapons choices.

Might be some more way to do it, but not that I've heard of, and to my knowledge of the engine there isn't really any other ways to do it until BIS adds it, and I wouldn't think it's a minor task.

Could use 'attach to' thing, been done already with it, that said its not ideal.
