Multiplayer is driving me crazy!!!

I just got Arma II, and I love the editor. However, I would prefer to play other players online, but when I try and join 90% of matches I get an error (apparently I don't have some add-on "ace"). Those I do join involve me spawning only to get shot, or spawning as an unarmed soldier in the dead of night, who enters a helicopter and is auto-parachuted into the middle of nowhere. Not only that, but I never have a high enough rank to fly anything, so I'm stuck on the ground, having to run 3000 meters to find an enemy before being shot by 30 hostels.

Are there any "good" online matches?!

read the mission name before joining. if its evolution, domination or something elce similar, dont bother

honest i would say look around the forums here, especially the multiplayer and user mission sections to get a better idea of how these things work

may even find out what "ace" is :p

Thats why I dont play PVP either, the part after ACE.

Thanks, btw I know what ace is, advanced combat environment I believe, which is a mod.

Most servers uses the ACE mod so it's almost a must, look in the complete mods section.

Same here Sciguy! Every timeI play multiplayer, I spawn halfway across the map from any action, and I end up walking for miles, only to come acros some lone soldier who one shots me in a matter of seconds, making me respawn way back where I came from.

I can't even play most missions because they all have ACE, and I cant seem to get it working on my copy.

You need to find a good squad or server in your region for any reasonable and organised gameplay.

If you are the in US, i would recommend tactical gamer, otherwise check out the sqaud/team/clan forum.

Hmm strange.

I dont play with ace and there are plenty of servers that go without ace.

Just read server discription before joining.

As for spawning half way across the map.

There are many different game modes and missions, just stick to on that seems to fit and learn how to play it.

example, evolution have teleport points.

Warfare has spawn points but at start you start at the mhq, just respawn to choose different spawn point.

You can try playing on AAS servers. (Advance and Secure)

it's very similar to Battlefield in that you capture flags and spawn at them

but you capture them in a specific order not randomly like Battlefield.

You don't need to be a specific rank to use vehicles

and maps are of various sizes depending on how many people

they were designed for.

no serious rules other then no TK'ing obviously

and stay out of X-ray (Main base).

You can play Warfare BE (Capture The Island) too, theres a fair number of players every time even if it's a non ACE server.

It's a mix of coop and PvP, where you get to earn your own cash and buy your own vehicles, weapons and AI units. (Maximum AI in your squad is 12)

While you capture towns and increase your team's income (You get paid every minute) your Commander (chosen by the whole team, yes, you can be a commander too if you're experienced enough) upgrades and builds factories.

Your Mobile HQ is the "heart" of your team, if it is destroyed by the enemy, you have a high chance of losing.

It'll sharpen up your ArmA 2 aiming skills better than Coop games, it's very fun overall. (WARNING: This game mode includes a lot of driving around 'cause choppers and jets cost money, but when you get money and upgrades, feel free to buy em :) )

Sure - I would be happy to welcome you on the ArmAcalypse server. PvP only, Advance and Secure (AAS) gameplay, plain vanilla Arma 2 with no mods required (but a number of mods allowed, check our forums). The server populates in the evening hours (US Eastern time) through the night/early morning. Typically we have between 16 and 40 players online, with Fri/Sat being the strongest days.

Threadstarter - You could allways join a open community like battle.no. The Tv2 servers have the oppertunity for everyone to start their own missions, there are a lot of missions to play.. even the small missions. You dont have to join any clan or squad or anything... everyone are welcome, and you can use the public voice overlay(Teamspeak server) with your friends or the people you find on the server. Best of all, you dont have to pay or sign up for the fun.. just play and have fun when you like The servers are sponsored and most of the time supply arma2 gamers with good teamplay and memorable moments.
