Modern Warfare 2

Recommended Posts

I dont think IW.net is too bad, well at least not like what people (haters) make of it, I always play with 70-100ping, and its fine, am sure with more patches, updates, it will fix the problems

I still dont know whether this NAT type thing actually affects the matchmaking in public serves? if so, how?

If you love playing on listen servers with 100+ ping that is no more than 30 miles from you, be my guest. But to the rest of us that know the benefits of having a dedicated box, we are laughing at you.

No need to be aggressive either. If he is happy and you're not, in the end, who's the one to laugh at ?

I'm not defending IW for dropping dedicated servers, but obviously some more casual gamer (apparently a substantial amount of people) do not care that much about it, and in a couple of months, they'll be on to another game anyway.

It may be sad but it's that way.

Please tell me you've actually tried the game?

Every game I've ever played I'm happy to get 100ms due to my location. I get much more than that almost all the time. Including in ArmA II. However, MW2 has absolutely fantastic net code, and I experience no lag so long as my "bars" remain at 3 or above (between 120 and 150ms), which the matchmaking system puts me on servers with such pings 90% of the time. Even if it drops below that, it's not terrible. Just because you're getting 100ms doesn't mean it's completely unplayable for you. That's almost using it as an excuse for sucking at the game...

Woah, and IW is still busy counting the money, while IWNet is becoming a filesharing client. They are pretty silent on their forum. Then again, most users bought the game already anyway.

Cheat / Hack Free Games: The biggest benefit of using IWnet by far is the fact that you don’t have to worry about joining a server full of aim-bots, wallhacks, or cheaters. Or relying on the server admin of the server to constantly be monitoring, banning, and policing it. Modern Warfare 2 on PC allows us to control the quality of the game much more than ever before as well as utilizing the VAC (Valve-Anti-Cheat) system to keep games clean of hackers and cheaters.

All in all, IWNET adds a load of new features that the PC version of our games have never had before and allows us an infrastructure to continue to update and improve on the game post-launch.

I can't see that post. I keep getting a "Framework Error" every time I try to view it.

Apparently they are able to hack the server and send virus/trojans to people, in the process they run aimbot in the game, and send a non tagged member to the other team to TK.

quite a story those guys are.

This was the trojan they were trying to send;

TR/Crypt.XPACK.Gen

So is this IW idea of a joke when iwnet is suppose to be hack free when yet its probably less secure then a Windows 98 system with no protection?

While I think it was stupid for IWNet to make such large claims that no developer in history has been able to accomplish, I think it's a bit unfair in this situation. As this, quite simply, is the "extreme" situation. They have probably some of the best "hackers" messing with the game due to it's restrictions, as well as its massive popularity. They try to ruin the game for the masses. And this game certainly has the masses playing it.

However, I think we'll have to stop talking about the hacking going on with MW2, as it's forbidden in the forum rules. So, next subject?

Their forums are a fail, this alternative link to the same thread works just fine.

Anyway, I'm a bit suspicious about this whole deal. So far the only AV that was reported detecting the trojan was Avira. That leads me to believe this might as well just be a false positive.

If anyone manages to get a hold of that file I suggest you submit it on VirusTotal to have it tested by more AVs.

Just hit "cancel" and it'll let you in as a super admin to reek havok! If you got that joke then you were obviously a user of Windows 98 lol (my god that makes me feel old).

Now that you say it, I didn't realise it's already +11 years ago, time sure goes fast. :butbut:

Maybe... Activision/IW will use this to promote their hackfree subscription based Nextgen IWNet. A bit like the mafia practice of asking protection money.;)

You have to lure in the pc crowd in one way or another, the console crowd won't offer much resistance. Afterall, the core fanbase was asking for it.

Not saying it's entirely out of the question that someone found an exploit in the MW2 code, but this case looks very much like a false positive, perhaps even a complete hoax. It's funny how the discussion over at IW is basically being fuelled by a small handful of people and most "confirmations" are coming from newly registered forum members who "just signed up to say I got it too".

And then the stuff being said by one of those guys... "a worm attack is very very severe!" :D

Uh huh... bite your ankles they will.

The forum is a mess, I've seen some crazy things there. IW has it's hands full, they wanted to take it all in their own hands, it seems that the costeffective port to pc backfired. They'll have to do a lot of maintenance to keep the hackers from IWNet.

No official feedback on the forum makes it even worse, people can make things up at will. I suspect it will get worse when more and more people get out of the dreamworld after the initial launch. Like drugs, the hype will wear off.

Bought MW2 2 days ago, so far I've played it for about 1 hour. It's not too bad, but it really feels like a cheap expansion of MW1. It kinda feels thrown together, and I've already encountered about 9 bugs and a few other things that don't feel right, even in a hollywood action game.

Things like the fact that the pistol has great stopping power (even a 9mm is extremely powerful compared to RL), I don't mind that as it adds a bit of action fun, it just seems odd in comparison with that and the fact that if you hit a riot shield with a direct m203 shell the enemy won't budge as if it was a fly hitting the shield.

LAWL @ the "riot shield"

It's more like a 5 foot thick steel reinforced concrete wall.

As you say, MW2 is ok for a quick action romp but it's nowhere near as good as the first MW and it really does feel "slapped" together. This isn't helped by the utterly pathetic story.

I checked videos as all the hype went on and all I saw was Far Cry style game with modern war badge. Also the main character and voice over is from Crysis (the cockney english chap).

That video of the teenager getting angry and punching walls, I mean .. lets face it perfect target audience LOL ... (I joke, sort of).

Not really.

I imagine that is your "average" CoD player. Kids are f**ked these days. Bad/lack of parenting, no respect for anything, no sense of value etc

You need a license for something as trivial as driving a car, you should need a license to be allowed the priviledge of children.

I was actualy that close to buy it on steam last week because I had a sudden urge for a "fast food shooter". Found the price to be too high, so I didn't.

Also, I overlooked a very simple fact: it is an Activision game. And the CEO of Activision is Robert Kotick:

"I don't think it is specific to video games. I think that if you look at how much volatility there is in the economy and, dependent upon your view about macroeconomic picture and I think we have a real culture of thrift. And I think the goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks that we brought in to Activision 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games."

"I think we definitely have been able to instill the culture, the skepticism and pessimism and fear that you should have in an economy like we are in today. And so, while generally people talk about the recession, we are pretty good at keeping people focused on the deep depression."

I don't feel comfortable giving my money to someone who does his very best to destroy the hobby I love: computer games.

I fear people like him will make computer games to what television is today:

"[your country name] 's next top-retard" - over and over and over and over again.

Any body knows this documentary from the future? I think we will get there - one little step at a time.
