Studio Sarmat represents - Pack AN-2 aircraft.

The project - "Wings of Russia".

HISTORICAL REFERENCE

Scheme of this plane prove its reliability and safety. Correct plane construction can save crew and passengers in extreme situations.

It can lands on different types of landscapes, even on landscape without special preparations. When engine stops, plane can glide.

Only this plane producing more than 61 year!

They have a huge transport plane that you can drive a few trucks into the back of, not sure what the name of it is but I saw it in one of their videos. looks bad ass.

Actually, there was one version that had a rotary-type gun (like WWII vintage) mounted behind the top wing IIRC.

Well, realism aside making a version with a small S-8 rocket pod under one wing and machine gun under the other would make for one interesting CAS plane.

Also thanks for releasing in seperate versions, this is way better than a pack as you can use the ones u want/need and the vehicle list in editor is kept smaller as unwanted aircraft are not there:)

Tested out AN-2 on African soil (hint *Duala*) and its absolutely cool to see landing and taking off on dirt without any runways :)

Afaik only armed An-2 were the ones that had MG mounted at the back for close protection of 6'o'clock (nickname Fedya) and Croatians made couple of modifications for dropping bombs, photo:

Other than that this is a transportation and supply plane and it should remain that.

US new COIN doctrine pretty much implies that there will be a Turbo prop plane adopted for CAS missions (most likely Super Turcano). Looks like 'Nam era OV-10 Bronco will be resurrected and modernized as well. So, CAS is going back to the basics with noticable advatages (against weak-AA equipped opponents) - cheap per hour flight time (to compare, Raptor costs 100k/hour to keep in the air and 30 hours of maintenance for every hour flown), longer loiter times, less meaintenance, can be deployed to directly to FOBs with dirt runways, can get in supporting positions faster than helos. Basically, Turbo props are a good middle ground between helos and fast movers.

But yeah, CAS needs something slower than an F-16/-22/-35. Ask the USMC and their helos and the in-testing armed Osprey.
