Prydain 1 Posted August 1, 2012 I swear I posted here earlier. Must be loosing my mind! Either way, flat bed trucks are the most under rated vehicles so it is great to see the HAM (nice touch) trucks make an appearance. It is also great to see all the future vehicles being focused on in keeping to Arma3's completely implausible future narrative. Excellent work, as usual guys, that list of units is getting mighty big now, it is going to be hard to get it all done!
rksl-rock 1300 Posted August 1, 2012 ...Excellent work, as usual guys, that list of units is getting mighty big now, it is going to be hard to get it all done! Well there are a lot more of us now and ArmA3 is some time off so its not going to be a problem is it.
Prydain 1 Posted August 1, 2012 I was reading earlier the amount that each WIP Wednesday has revealed and it is a big list but if you put it like that of course not. RHS, FDF, BW and others have a big list of units and they have done the same. Its a good time for ambitious mod teams it seems.
rksl-rock 1300 Posted August 1, 2012 (edited) Pffft, the list is no where near as big as some other teams are trying to do. I killed off 15 long running projects earlier this year to reduce the workload. What you also have to understand is that a lot of work has been done in the last two years where we havent released very much. All of that work is providing the base for 'new' ArmA3 focused models, shortening the lead times needed and with new software and all the things we've learned in the last few years its not that big a deal. And I know others are finding the same. The limit these days seems to be actually getting the models in game and scripted. EDIT - And I am sitting on some projects so that we can release a more coherent pack too, rather than individual addons. If you actually knew what we are really doing you wouldnt be questioning our ability to complete our projects. Or our commitment to having a real life as well as a virtual one ;) Edited August 1, 2012 by RKSL-Rock
liquidpinky 11 Posted August 1, 2012 EDIT - And I am sitting on some projects so that we can release a more coherent pack too, rather than individual addons. Liking the sound of that very much. If you decide to make the SX 8x8 it would be a joy just to watch that suspension working properly while it drives down a bumpy road.
b00ce 160 Posted August 1, 2012 Does that mean that the Lynxs, Merlins and Pumas will be packed together now? (No I haven't forgotten about them. :icon_razz: )
rksl-rock 1300 Posted August 1, 2012 Does that mean that the Lynxs, Merlins and Pumas will be packed together now? (No I haven't forgotten about them. :icon_razz: ) Only in so much as they will be available in an "all in one easy to download pack". Individual addons will be available for a time too. Eventually everything should just get rolled up into one downloadable RKSL archive. They will also be available as part of the community based UK Armed Forces Collection (UKAF). Prydain 1 Posted August 2, 2012 If you actually knew what we are really doing you wouldnt be questioning our ability to complete our projects. Or our commitment to having a real life as well as a virtual one ;) It does feel like I've accidentally walked into the middle of the crowd that you keep having to say "when its done" to so let me step right out. I was misconstrued, I haven't been scouting this thread for so long just to jump out and scream like a epileptic 14 year old who just wants all the shiny things released now. But enough about that, the MAN trucks are sex. T'is all.
jtec 0 Posted August 2, 2012 Bonjour guys, thought id just pop on to say hi and have a butchers of what being done :D Glad to see your still busy beavering away on the projects and even Dans back to doing what he did best ;D Everything is looking great chaps nice one! ;)
sentryuk 25 Posted August 2, 2012 Rock can you just clarify are all releases you had planned now waiting on arma3 or are you still planning on releasing stuff before then ? Also is it not possible to release betas early - they may not be perfect in your eyes but to most people me included they look great ! Take the ham trucks I think they look fantastic as they are - your professional eye might spot loads of problems with textures and what not but honestly most people would chuffed to bits to get them in game as they are - just a thought... Not all of them. There will be some more releases for ArmA2. The long promised updates to the Helos and the Typhoon. I few new things, UAVs, SAMs etc, im sitting on some none UK stuff too. The rest might end up in A3. It depends on when the actual release date is and how quickly the lads and I finish stuff. The "HAMs", I am hoping to get atleast a beta out soonish. But that will only be a basic 4x4 and 6x6 version at most but that depends on my personal circumstances unless one of the others wants to pic them up. Im about to shoot off and join my first MP game in 2 months so more details in a Wednesday or two. :) Edited August 5, 2012 by RKSL-Rock
rksl-rock 1300 Posted August 8, 2012 WIP Wednesdays Week 32 WIP Wednesday - The best laid plans... < NEW ... of mice and men (And Messiah), often go awry. To start off, I'll have to warn you that this isn't going to be the most 'plus sized' of RKSL updates, mostly due to my own time schedule slipping, and perhaps in part to a three day binge in town thanks to a couple of old university friends who were visiting me in Copenhagen for the resultingly long weekend  So, a slim update today, but part of a larger one I wanted to post about UV unwrapping the Foxhound, which will come in the next couple of weeks all being well. Last time I posted, was about the progress of the foxhound and what was a fairly complete model. Since then I've added a few bits and bobs such as the rear step and corrected a few parts of the mesh, and progressed onto the interior. Vehicle interiors have always been a bit of a love hate relationship for any modder, being a rather detailed and labourious task, fraught with the usual (and more often than not, increasing) lack of reference that plagues all addons. Unwrapping the interior presents its own headache of small details, switches, cables and gear sticks, and it never ever seems to quite look... 'right' - as if its been setup to clinically, rather than a naturally lived in, working vehicle. Week 31 WIP Wednesday - "Be a MAN my son..." - British Army Trucks Week 30 WIP Wednesday - Tempting Fate, AW159 and Bed baths - Hospital, Helicopters and Student Nurses Week 29 WIP Wednesday - The Dog ate my homework...honest! - Excuses excuses. rksl-rock 1300 Posted August 15, 2012 WIP Wednesdays Week 33 WIP Wednesday - Enforced Labour... < NEW Since this is supposed to be about Work In progress we thought we'd actually show you some progress (again). This is the Selex Enforcer II Remote Weapons System model made by Messiah that he showed you back in week 25. This time its been fully unwrapped and Rock is in the middle of texturing it. The renders are from Modo, with a very simple environment. Nothing too special but its the pre bake version which uses 5 textures and about 20 materials. This should all be baked down to a single tile. You'll have to excuse the crappy ammo feed link its going to be replaced with a high poly model later on. We'll find you something to do :p Modo is the way to go mate. The Unwrapping tool is so much easier to use. I don't really like the way it packs stiff but its a lot easier to unwrap now and baking textures is so easy its scary.

rksl-rock 1300 Posted August 25, 2012 WIP Wednesdays Week 34 WIP Wednesday - Look ma' it floats < NEW Ok this week, is a bit overdue. Its Saturday night, wednesday is a long forgotten memory but I thought I should post what i had planned anyway. This week's offering isnt really mine. Its CBFASI's but since hes in the throes of moving house and has virtually no internet access I thought I'd post on his behalf (Its his turn you see). Small craft have always been fun to use in-game so CBFASI delved deep into his model archive and plucked out a "Rigid Raider MK1". Used primarily by the Royal Marines the boats are made from glass fibre and have a monster (for the size and weight of the boat) 115hp outboard motor fitted. Which lets it get up to a rather scary 50knots unloaded and 30kts with a full load of 8 troops and kit. Week 33 WIP Wednesday - Enforced Labour - Enforcer RWS update Week 32 WIP Wednesday - "The best laid plans..." ... of mice and men, often go awry. rksl-rock 1300 Posted August 29, 2012 WIP Wednesdays Week 35 - Aug 29 - Oh S@#% this wont float... < NEW Another CBFASI week. Again while George is moving house I'm posting on his behalf. Another "older" project being brought to the fore for upgrade to ArmA2 and 3. I apologise again, this is going to be a very quick one. I'm back on the move this week so time is very short. With ArmA3 featuring water based gameplay so heavily it seems logical to keep looking at watercraft and expanding the types and features. Nothing too big but there seems to be a place for small, lightly armed patrol craft. I mean we've seen the video with the combat boat in ArmA3 and we've seen the divers. So lets give the civs and OPFOR something to play with... at least I think we should.
