Simple question and simple answer.

If you ask:

Why when game also use VON?

Then answer is:

Imagine it as 'addition' or 'expansion' to VON and NOT as replacement! Fully optionable.

Mumble's Link can be used by any other application including TeamSpeak 3 etc.

What exactly would this mean is not implementing whole Mumble but only linking to Mumble via Link plugin : http://mumble.sourceforge.net/Link

* this will allow positional placement of voice according to ingame world coordinates etc.

Why Mumble ?

it's opensource and technology wise outperforms other solutions on market

HomePage : http://mumble.sourceforge.net/

Mumble's future plans : http://mumble.sourceforge.net/Upcoming

Mumble's Access control list & Group system : http://mumble.sourceforge.net/ACL_and_Groups

Mumble's URL support : http://mumble.sourceforge.net/Mumble_URL

Mumble's userbase statistic : http://www.sjuengling.de/mus/

* note this is only from users who 'allow' statistic tracking

I vote aye!

From my experience, Mumble is awesome. Low latency, great voice quality. The server is a biatch to configure though.

How does the latency in VON compare to Mumble? i know mumble vs. TS and Vent there is very little latency.

other than that i thought VON was a very good communications solution after it was working properly. direction and distance are clear, just like mumble.

the only reason i would see to implement mumble would be if a game did not have its on VOIP/VON system but since Mumble is open source and uses its own plug in i see no reason why it couldn't be used.

Mumble latency is lower than VON as they using way newer technology and codec in new release ...

If you tried Mumble in past prior the technology shift for new protocol then forget all You remember and test again ...

Question should be "Why hasn't it been implemented yet".

Detachment Kyllikki (http://kyllikki.fi/) has used Mumble for two years now and it is far superior to any other voice software that I know of. So by all means, YES!

I think there is no need for it.

There would be other suggestions which are more important. (for example cooking grenades)

Absolutely YES! No question about it... compared to the ingame VON, mumble beats it 100-0, hands down, only thing missing from it is inherit support for arma 2. Hopefully, not for long tho :)

Votin Yes here as well.

I use the VON a lot so if it can get an improved side-kick im all for it. Anything that can help improve the game is good.

This sounds like a great idea! Mumble is superb! And Free open source too...!!!

I can think of at least one other popular Freeware plugin I'd like implemented too!!! :D

Good luck!

(It'll be interesting to see if you attract as many "NO" votes as the Freetrack poll by the time you make 400+ "yes" votes... I can't personally see why people would vote "no" in either case...)

Mumble has excellent quality and low latency, it would be really awesome to also have directional sound for it, even without the sound occlusion VoN offers.

Maybe if the devs are implementing it, they could add the sound occlusion somehow. :)

Hi all

That was the easiest forum poll to answer yes to ever.

As to the ArmA VON its best part is the Direct Speak, keep that bit.

Kind regards walker

even better, if they can make Mumble a part of Direct Speak

we could have all the good without the bad and ugly;)

Doubt it, the code they'd add simply sends the in-game position and direction you're facing to Mumble. The geometry occlusion will most likely stay VoN only.

We tried to use VON in-game. Failed miserably (dropped packets made all speech unintelligble). We now use Ventrilo.

Would love to have something that actually works in game. I voted yes.
