What MODs do you use

I know there is quite a lot of mods out there already and I can't help but think that I've missed out on some.

I think it would be a good idea if people posted the mods they use along with a brief description on WHY they use them.

To begin I use the following:

VopSound_2.1: It offers better sound than what come with the game

SLX: MOD that makes the AI better (in my opinion) and adds a whole load of other features

Saku Lighting MODS: First mod makes the sun less blinding, the second affects lighting in the game

LittleBirds: Adds the chopper of the same name to the game

CAA1: Can play Arma 1 maps on Arma 2 (highly recommended)

CBA: Framework and standardistion for mods

I also use the Helicopter sound mod, Tracked Vehicle sound mods and the Spanish Weapons mods but I can't remember their names.

Not sure if there's an existing thread on this already, so apologies in advance.

i think such topics should not exist cause every addonmaker tries to do his best and listing what is better is not right (such topic on A1 turned into "what is better")

expressing why someone use something is also not right, cause looks like crypto-advertisment and demeaning to other (probably soon some more people will do sound mods and etc.)

if you write about something as highly recomended than what it means to other people's effort ? not recomended ?

just one ask - avoid in future on such topics opinion "better, worse", cause i remember situation when wrong model was called better and oposite situation, when other person seeing good and proper model told it is bad (comparing to other not-realistic one)

if you ask what modification someone use, you should divide MODs and ADDONs

mod - changes gameplay like ACE in AA1

addons - not changes gameplay, but only adds new content like model of vehicle, weapon etc.

The point of this thread is not to find out 'which is better', if it descends into flame wars then I'll be the first to want the thread locked.

The intention was that people would post their current setups, therefore creating awareness of mods/addons that other users may not have known existed.

So, can we stick to the topic at hand? PM me if you must, but let's keep this on topic if at all possible

Well that's pathetic, all this topic appears to be is topic for people to say "I've used this adddon, I like it and it works well".

I don't know about anybody else but I do not see any attempts at putting down any addon-makers, put simply indifference is a different thing to disapproval, to say that failing to recommend something is tantamount to recommending not to use it is just utter stupidity.

I use:

CBA: Framework and standardisation for mods and addons covers my reasoning perfectly.

Saku Mods: Lighting and driving modifications, seem to make some nice changes.

SAP Clutter: Makes it much easier to go prone in grass and remain useful.

SDP Cannon Fix: Shilka's need to fire on multiple barrels.

Binkowski's Army '09: Brings back memories of ArmA 1 and ACU units from there.

In addition to these I use a few personal mods, that aren't ready for release.

CAA1 for the old Arma islands that play fine now.

VOPSOUND because it's good.

I am at work now so I don't remember the names but one mod makes the ground textures smoother (LandTex) and the other reduces the size of plants (SAP clutter) thus increasing performance and visibility.

And then a few addons, like the mercenaries pack, fast-rope helicopter, place-able LHD, the minimal cross-hair mod (WHICH IS AMAZING and I recommend it to all y'all). Some other mods here and there too.

I am still waiting for another patch to finalize my configuration since the 1.03 beta makes my mouse jerky. Then I'll give SLX a shot.

than i use this:

my Polish units - because this is army of my country, PT91, Landrover, BMP1, Leopard 2A4, ambulance, Police vehicles,

my Swedish and Bundeswehr units

my Alien APC and Colonial Marines because i love AVP games

soon addons of Project'85 because of lots of cold war stuff and high level of realism and huge variety of vehicles (circa 80) and weapons (ca. 200) and units (ca. 80) more realistic are hard to find :P

soon i hope to use PKW WW2 D-Day units and weapons as Yac will release them :P

I'm currently playing with Arma2 beta patch, CBA, SLX, Vopsound and Sakura sun and light fx plus a "Test" folder where I put units I want to try.

Well, get ready for a long list:

"Daily usage kit"

Language mod: English'd my Czech copy of A2.

CBA: I'll just say everyone should use this.

FLIR: FLIR for vehicles.

InstantViewDistance for Arma2: Changing viewdistance on the go and in missions with forced vd to 1600m (ew)

GMJ SightAdjustment Sight Adjustment, very useful for sniper missions.

Nice_Boat Tank Damage System Armored vehicles armor fix and improvements.

RKSL Countermeasures I flying shiny objects that distract missiles.

Driving AI fix AI handles turns better.

SDP Cannon Fix Several vehicles now fire with both cannons, as they should.

Object drawing distance tweak: Objects more visible at distance.

VFAI Smokeshell: AI throws smoke to hide itself from enemy fire.

ZGB_Disposal: Disposable launchers are disposable, with automatic tube dropping.

ZGB_Helicopters: Triggerhappy Choppers and FFARs under Pilot's control.

ZGB_Stick2gether: AI stays in formations.

ZGB_VapourTrails: Vapour trails for aircraft. (some might wonder why I use zGuba's VT when I released my own one* - well, I like to keep my modfolders tidy and clean, and zGuba is using a tag for his addons = modfolders more clean :) )

AT GUI Pack: Crosshairs removal for some weapons, chat window position fixed and vehicle view adjusted. Do like.

LandTex: More beautiful Chernarus.

Night lighting effects: Better night lights, makes nights more enjoyable.

Weapon smoke replacement: This one atleast follows the weapons direction, lol.

Soundmods:

HiFi A-10: Badass A-10 sounds!

RH Heli sound: Very realistic helicopter sounds

TangoRomeo's Tracked Vehicles: Awesomely realistic tracked vehicles sound (man I just LOVE driving around in the Abrams now)

VopSound: Realistic weapon sounds.

And if beta patch counts as a mod, then yeah, using beta because of fixes.

I'm also using some addons just for playing around in the editor:

Mercenaries Pack: Aweomse looking pack of various mercenaries, specops and even terrorists.

US Army 2009 Units: I was starting to miss some ACU guys on Chernarus.. :p

Mi-28: ass kicking helicopter.

MH-53E: Big marines transport, yay!

*Which zGuba kindly fixed for 1.0 release :)

So what is the mod prioritisation system like, then? I get unbelievable slowdowns and pauses in multiplayer games with just a couple of sound mods enabled (i actually have a huge, huge list in my launcher, but most of them are disabled because i've been trying to figure out if there is a conflict going on).

So if i have EliasSound enabled as well as Heli Sounds, Hi-Fi Air and a few other things, and i have EliasSound as the lowest priority, so that the other specialised sound mods take priority, is there a chance they will still conflict? Because i have a pretty fast computer, and even when i lower my draw distance down to 100, i still get periods of gameplay where it'll freeze for 8 seconds, then play for one or two seconds, then freeze for another 8. This can last for minutes at a time, and 8 seconds is a long time to wait for just two seconds of movement. It clearly isn't a performance issue, i can only surmise it's some kind of conflict going on.

The event log is anything but useful as far as i can see. What would you guys advise? Those of you with extensive mod lists, don't you experience playability issues at all? Why not? My game has played like a dream in the past. It seems quite hit/miss.

Nosedive: I would guess that the list of mods I've put there cost me maybe 2-3 fps in total? Let me tell you that random slowdowns/pauses are more a feature of the Arma engine than any mods in particular. Though if you've got a particularly slow computer or very little ram that might be the cause.

at_compass - makes compass huge

fps helper - makes grass not retarded and game runs well

sound of war mod - sounds like battlefield bad company really basie and good

slx_mod - minus the weapons and wounding. Just the ai stuff really

CBA - cause slx needs it

beno's Army2009 costumes - cause they are just plain sexy!
