Sgt. Hugo Stiglitz 10 Posted September 19, 2009 Well, another update. This friggen computer is so unpredictable it makes me sick. I paid $2000 for this piece of sh**, and some days it works, some days it doesn't. ArmA 2 might be PART of the problem, but I think a very large portion of it has to do with my computer. So, I did the -cpucount=4 thing, right? And the first night it worked GREAT. The second day it worked ok; more stuttering than the night before. Yesterday, it worked PERFECTLY, zero stuttering, whatsoever. Today, it doesn't work at all. Stuttering is so bad it makes the game unplayable. None of my settings are changed at all, have not touched them, and no background programs are running. I don't know what the hell to do. It's just ridiculous. King Haggis 0 Posted September 19, 2009 Sgt. Hugo, are you using Windows Vista? Maybe it's the "Windows Search" service that's causing hiccups in the game. This service is constantly accessing your harddrive to index your files for faster future searches. Switch it off by doing the following (I have the Dutch version of Vista, so I'm not sure I'm using the correct names here): Configuration screen -> System Management -> Services Find the service called "Windows Search". Doubleclick it and set it to "disabled". Reboot your system and maybe the PC and ArmA 2 will work faster. Hope it works for you. Also, try disabling Intel Speedstep technology in the BIOS if you have it enabled. Maybe you tried all those things already, but in case you didn't, give it a try
Bulldogs 10 Posted September 20, 2009 English version : Goto Start menu, then type in the run/search box msconfig then hit enter, then the services tab, then windows search.
Skeptic 10 Posted September 20, 2009 ArmA 2 might be PART of the problem, but I think a very large portion of it has to do with my computer. So, I did the -cpucount=4 thing, right? I'm afraid improvements you saw can not be attributed to this switch. -cpuCount is only for limiting number of cores, not forcing more. See my sig for Arma2 start up parameters. This switch may help to resolve graphical glitches and sacrifice speed.
Bulldogs 10 Posted September 20, 2009 the -cpucount switch does actually help. His CPU is an i7 which has 4 cores, but 8 with Hyperthreading enabled. He was unable to disable Hyperthreading so setting the -cpucount=4 initially made it to be only the 4 cores and not the 4 virtual cores. The issue you encountered, Hugo, is that when you initially did the -cpucount=4 it only used the physical cores, and not the virtual cores, but obviously sometimes when you do it it's using the virtual cores instead of the physical cores. When it uses the virtual cores you end up getting what's known as cache thrashing, this causes skipping an spikey frame rates. The only true way that I know of to stop cache thrashing is to disable Hyperthreading through BIOS. Users of the Core 2 duos and Quad Cores shouldn't experience cache thrashing as neither of those CPU's support HyperThreading.
1longtime 10 Posted September 20, 2009 CPU - Intel core 2 duo E68504GB Ram 2x EvGA 9800 GTX SSC EvGA 680i Mobo PC Cool & Quiet 1KW PSU Display driver 8.15.0011 Vista 64 bit I have setup SLI and installed the patch and SLI enhancement but I am only getting a maximum of 17fps in fraps. Surely with 2 of these cards I should be getting much higher!! The settings in the control panel are high except for antialiasing and anisotropic which are set to normal. I have done exactly what it says in the Nvidia section apart from the recommended driver. Is this all I can expect because it seems sloppier now I have added the second card and the fps are virtually the same. Cheers for reading. I have two 8800 GTX cards and a very similar rig (with a Quad core however) and experienced the same problem. My framerate doubled when I used Windows XP rather than Vista. It seems Vista wasn't allowing the CPU to shine. The video cards were not the issue. I'm not sure what results you will have with a Duo though. I never discovered exactly why Vista ran so poorly. Sgt. Hugo Stiglitz 10 Posted September 20, 2009 Yep, well I tried adding the -winxp bit in, and I didn't have any stuttering when I played. Those two aren't necessarily linked, however; I might have just gotten lucky with which cores my PC decided to use.
ARMALOVER22 10 Posted September 21, 2009 Alright, its been 3 days since i've purchased Arma 2 and i been trying to figure this thing out with my brothers new desktop. the specs: Aspire Acer AX1300 Windows Vista AMD Athlon x2 7450 Dual core processor 3GB ddr2 320gb memory Nvidia geforce 8200 integrated i understand it is not that great but from reading the minimum pc specifications it is good enough but the question is How good??? i can load the game up just fine no problems but the graphics and everything all together is just lagging, cant even get a good game going when i turn everything to very low and low and disable like mostly everthing, turn the resolution down and the 3d all the way down to 50% and it just wont get better like the fps is like at 1. Plz help a brother out somebody i really love this game and i cant wait to buy my own computer but thats not for another 1 to 2 months so ANYBODY plzzz???:confused::confused:

ARMALOVER22 10 Posted September 21, 2009 Sorry, but as mentioned in the other post, your computer is far below minimum specs. its alittle above the minimum specs right? its below the recommended
Bulldogs 10 Posted September 21, 2009 The minimum system specs are : * Dual Core CPU (Intel Pentium 4 3.0 GHz, Intel Core 2.0 GHz, AMD Athlon 3200+ or faster) * 1 GB RAM * GPU (Nvidia Geforce 7800 / ATI Radeon 1800 or faster) with Shader Model 3 and 256 MB VRAM * Windows XP * DVD (Dual Layer compatible), 10 GB free HDD space Have a look here for reference http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/video_lookup.php?cpu=GeForce+8200M+G Basically your card has a pass mark of 72 The minimum requirements listed are the GeForce 7800 http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/video_lookup.php?cpu=GeForce+7800+GT Which has a Passmark rating of

Tassadar 10 Posted September 22, 2009 I have tried to: Reinstall the game Clock the cpu WOrked with chanign settings in the Nvidia control panel Switch hyper threading off RUning in XP compabbillity Nothing of this works. I still get 10-20 FPS in the wilderness and when im ina city it's even worse. I've tried to mix around with the settings. But I hear there alot of other who has nearly the identical rig as I have and they have no problems at all. When I turn the settings up I get bluescreens. And when Iäve played for about an hour or so on "very low" settings. It gives me black screen whenever I start a game. I ca still hear the sound in the game and walk around asd such. But theg ame is unplayable. ' I also ran a 3Dmark vantage test. What was interesting there wast hat the graphics test went wihut major lag while the pou test went very very slow I even downlaoded ArmA II mark. The results are the following: Normal Detail level: ------ High Settings: Test 1. 27.9421 ------ 20.2186 Test 2. 33.988 ------ 20.443 Test 3. 27.9711 ------ 14.3259 Test 4. 35.6189 ------ 24.8705 Test 5. 11.2434 ------ 10.1925 OFPMark: 2735.271 ------ OFPMark: 1801.01 I am using a 750 W for powersupply so it should be enough. Tassadar 10 Posted September 22, 2009 (edited) I'll give you a dx diag instead of the system specifications. I am using patch 1.04 the latest one if I am correct. Here you have the Dxdiag diagnostic of my rig. I am using Windows Vista 64-bit Home Premium About the graphic settings I have forced of Vertycal Sync. And I have also max rendering on 8 points. grayace 2 Posted September 22, 2009 Hello fellas, Im using Athlon X2 5000+ 2.6 Ghz, with 2 GB Ram and I was using GForce 8600GT and my fps was around 13-15 (min) when I got woods insight, average rate was 25 to 30 (max) today, I bought a GForce 9600GT and now my FPS kicks to 75 where I got 30 before, and min value is 25, so its veerryy playable, and these values were taken from idle maps, (uteh and the chernarus) replacing the GPU has given more than I expected, so I might recommend to you all whom using GF8600 series note, the benchmark values indicates that GF8600GT is at half speed when compared to 9600GT (ref. futuremark)
Bulldogs 10 Posted September 22, 2009 Preferably put the dxdiag info in spoilers to prevent it flooding the thread. Try reinstalling and patch to 1.03 to see if you still get the same problems, if so then it would be a good idea to note it in the bug tracker

One thing to note is that I have added two hard drives a SATA and an IDE drive. When I add them the problems seems to get worse that the Nvidia drivers stops answering in Windows and alike. But Now I am using a 1000 W powersupply. Could this be the case?
VictorFarbau 0 Posted September 22, 2009 The whole story is related to Windows Vista and the WDDM implementation (Windows Display Driver Model). This is what really kills your performance, 64bit or not. I read about this and thought they must be exaggerating. Little did I know, wait until you get your hands on Windows 7 - I bet you'd be amazed :) I went back from Vista to XP (got 10-15 fps more) and now to the RTM version of Windows 7 (got the OEM master for a test). And I got yet another 10 fps more out of it; avg increase on my good old machine(*) compared to Vista is roundabout 20 fps on average. Unbelievable. Now I can play Arma II on my dinosaur hardware in Full HD resolution and decent quality (all medium or high, but AA turned off, that's just too much for my videocard). So, kill Vista and move to Win7. I guess for Arma II players this statement really makes sense. If your words are true I am gonna be so damn happy:) your issue is your 295, not running in Sli... do a search here for it. There must be a dozen threads about the 295. As for V64 i just did my full test with my 4870x2's V64 runs fine for ATi. Just no choice to turn off vsync. ARMA 1.04, Cat.9.9.

Basically, SLI in one card enclosure.
kklownboy 43 Posted September 23, 2009 the 295 is basically two 260gtx's, in Sli. or two 275gtx's under clocked. So if its not running in Sli its a 260gtx~ which will be ok at 1680/1050 after that you get in the lowering of filters ect. This is in the Campaign being "ok", but your mileage may very. gabugabu 10 Posted September 23, 2009 I have a top gaming rig. - -2.8 yorkfield oc to 3.9 -8 gbs ddr2 1066 gskill -ati 4870x2 2gbs ram 2gpus -1000wat coolermaster psu -150 gb wd velociraptor 10krpm It is fully water cooled, cpu, full gpu, and nb & sb, this system runs max temp. 56 deg. on the processor and the 4870x2 ai 32 deg. This game is extremely buggy, it reminds me of crysis. This could be the best game by a lot, I really appreciate the depth and size of it and I'm also so disappointed that it's so buggy, its not just my opinion but the opinion of a lot of friends who have extreme rigs. I did not leave this message to just complain but to warn people not to blame there PCs but to put more pressure Bohemia Interactive to fix these problems. I just want to play.
