SHWiiNG 0 Posted January 26, 2009 The original AA was very good, i mean having to complete training beforehand. However, i found the action to be extremely Slow.. and well, boring. But it was an extremely difficult game to get the hang of when you first got it.
privatenoob 0 Posted January 26, 2009 Hi allIn Reply to Lepardi:They even have an abusive name for people who find a defilade position they call them "CAMPERS!" That would be prevented by a respawn system which would allow different kind of gameplay without getting kick voted as soon you dont rush obj like rambo on stereoids. And there are servers which allow camping, just gotta search for em. But AA was never designed to be realistic, even the DEVS have stated this.
Lepardi 0 Posted January 26, 2009 microscopic maps. There are bigger maps, and smaller maps in AA. Bigger maps like Radio Tower are very suitable for flanking.

Heatseeker 0 Posted January 26, 2009 microscopic maps. There are bigger maps, and smaller maps in AA. Bigger maps like Radio Tower are very suitable for flanking. Radio Tower was a beauty of a map back then... but unreal terrain is glitchy as hell . Imo AA proves that its close to impossible to pick an arcade platform (such as unreal) and turn it into a more realistic type shooter without facing major limitations and using gimmicks to counter those limitations but i enjoyed playing it at some point. Im thinking about giving Insurgency mod a try, seems better all around, heck it even looks better (graphically) than what i've seen of AA3 so far .

I've played Insurgency for over a year now and I can say it looks much worse than AA3. Just look at the high res versions of the first screenshots, or the new shots at the bottom of the official AA3 screenshot site. http://www.illuminatelabs.com/gallery/Americas-Army-
dslyecxi 23 Posted January 26, 2009 I'm pretty sure I saw photgraphs of Dyslexi and some soldiers using giant AA rigs with projection screens and M4 rifle controllers. Actually, we use VBS2, not America's Army. America's Army is old hat, VBS2 is where it's at currently for training purposes.
MehMan 0 Posted January 26, 2009 So far we've only seen a rehash of the pipeline map. How about making new maps that surpass the old ones?

So far we've seen remake of the pipeline, a new urban map, a new map set on a farmland, and a remake of bridge.

Baff1 0 Posted January 27, 2009 I'm glad they are sticking in the old maps. Everyone loves the classics.
MehMan 0 Posted January 27, 2009 Yeah, but with all that manpower and resources I would really expect something else but a rehashed pipeline. It's not that pipeline sucks, but why just that? Also, they could add a buttload more maps and maybe even release a map editor...
Baff1 0 Posted January 27, 2009 I'm not sure they have a whole load of man power and resources. The last batch of new maps I played for AA were all done by university students in modding competitions. I don't think it has such a big team, when it first launched it was only 5 or 6 maps wasn't it? They have all the geometery for the old maps. Must make them a lot quicker to update. Just a texture artist perhaps to rework the lot. Pretty low budget way to churn out a lot of content fast.
walker 0 Posted January 27, 2009 Hi all So when it comes down to it AA3 is all just the same old rubbish repackaged. Plus some pretend weapons. No new tanks, aircraft, ships, have they got any new cars in it? Can you drive them in it? And no maps bigger than a postage stamp. Kind regards walker

And the animations are just poor compared to AA3. AA3 > Ins mod in almost every aspect
SHWiiNG 0 Posted January 28, 2009 I would say that.. Isurgency has much more of an action orientated approach. Its just more fun, faster paced and you can play as the insurgents lets not forget. I played AA for a week and stopped because it was boring.
