Pre-rant notice: - This is a rant, and happens to be the main reason driving me never to play Arma again.

HEY BIS, DO YOU SEE WHATS HAPPENING TO YOUR GAME? THIS IS WHAT ITS BECOME.

Hell...Since scum sucking cheating groups is so publicly "out there", does BIS even look into their activity's to try and counter anything? Or is it since ArmA is so much open source its impossible? I know theres anti-cheat scripts etc out there, but I'm talking strictly BIS.

If its impossible, I hope all scum sucking cheating groups users rot in hell.

Funny part is that scum sucking cheating groups really are not all the super coders people might think. I'm a poo-poo level coder and i can tell you that 99% of the junk they do is done by someone else before them. Not saying they are not good at it because they are doing it to be honest. It's just that they are nothing super special. Anyone with google can write the stuff they are doing. Just takes a little time to learn how to locate things in memory or the pointers to take over a function. The game isn't really open source, they just inject junk into memory or modify the objects in directx thru calls. 90% of the cheats people use online are nothing more than sending calls to directx to change something.

To some degree there is not a ton that Bis can do without waisting their time. The client side hacks are un-avoidable. The ones we could prevent are the spawning of things or allowing people to run rouge scripts. Though it would take quite a bit of work to shift the local of processing. This would mean either quite a bit of code work or if not alot of extra processing power. People are already groaning about this on here daily. So it might spark a huge outrage if the server was to take on even more processing.

Cheaters will always find a way - you just have to put up with it, keep your server up to date with the banlists from other popular servers and you'll most likely filter out the worst of it.

I fear the only way to beat them is to put a legal statement on dedicted servers detailing the implications of using such cheats in the field of bandwidth use and the cost thereof and to gather information and perhaps resulting in some sort of class action i presume although these hacks are active locally the do need to send packets to the server and over to all clients and packets do cost money especially on rented servers ,however miniscule money is money.

Of course it can be linked to spamming and thus linked to previous spam cases , i am not a lawyer and it all seems far fetched but in the case of this ### they seem to pick on small companies who can ill afford court cases in terms of money or time , BIS could certainly have a case that ### have absolutely devastated the multiplater format of armed assault , this is more than evident with the frequency of threads in this very forum and the ### youtube videos by ### themselves that show absolute unplayability of ctf and or coops due to the tools released by ###.

I guess at the end of the day its a case of how far are the masses prepared to take this because a small company like bis would find it hard to fund or find an actual way to present the case.

The thing is BIS shood have made a new engine not based it off vbs 2 becuse thay had a problum with scum sucking cheating groups in the past with ofp. THe main problum is Multiplayer is client side. if thay would have made this game Server side then all thare major hacks would not work ie lgb 30min long drop.

bis also has a case agentist them via becuse word of mouth sells games and if scum sucking cheating groups countiuns makes Bezerk maps unplayable people quit flat out and never play mp again or onley in a "trusted group". scum sucking cheating groups has a difrent pholophy sure im sure thay thay get a kick out of killing evryone but thay wher never this bad thay would kill evronone on a server for 20min. stright thats just wrong.

And by saying scum sucking cheating groups you are not advertiseing for them you are letting the modirators know what a-holes thay all are.

But id do have to agree with you more about the dedicated game server admins have a more likly chance of screwing them with some kind of law suit. and not bis.

But bis can get them on the fact thay thay have a ID changer and thay have reversed enginerd the Game so many times.

Just yesterday we had much fun with a cheater. He was blowing everything up while we played Coastville (Nogville for ArmA).

It was very cool because he had absolutely no chance against us all. We kept stalking and sniping him till he left the server. I was hilarious how helpless this guy was.

Don't try to kick them! Its just what they want!

Just make them suffer. Show them that they have no chance or just ignore them by doing nothing. Just stand still, do nothing and say nothing. Maybe talk about the weather or something. This is by far the best way to deal with these retards.

This is exactly how to handle them. They are children at heart. They do this for attention. It's like the child in the mall that throws a temper tantrum. They know it will get them the attention they lack and crave. If everyone would just stand still, stop talking, and completely ignore them, it would not give them the attention their sad hearts lack and they would move somewhere else. Then just restart the mission and continue playing. Totally ignoring them is the best way to get under their skin.

Make sure you join a server with a admin in it!!

Make sure the admin knows what hes doing!

ask the admin if u can vote on the server if not leave when the admin leaves. becuse thay will pop up when the admin is gone.

if u can vote get evryone to vote and kick that guy out!

if the admin does not speek youre language leave or try to explane.

Educate evry admin in arma that is my goal! haha 3 more admins tought how to ban + checkfiles + ips bans what now HAHA

I did not suggest that an admin not deal with this. Question? Do you shut down your servers if no one can admin? Or have you hired people to admin your server 24/7?

Unlike some, I can not camp on my server 24/7. I have a life. So there are times that there is no admin around. If you allow voting then these cheats will vote themselves admins. Personally, that seems more dangerous than many suggestions. What if I got on your server while no admin was around and spammed the place with kick votes? It also opens your server up to having some idiot vote himself as admin as the first to connect and them treat everyone that connects badly. Thereby giving your server a reputation of having jerks as admins.

Another example, This happened while I was the admin. A cheater connected to a fairly full server using a random name like CodeSkyWolf as an example. When they connected they appeared to be the average joe joining to play. They waited until a few others had connected before they started their games. At first, I saw someone TKing everyone around him. But he was also typing at the same time saying someone had taken control of his character. Then another did the same thing. At first I thought it was just someone trying to cover their dumb acts until he took control of my character. I was out in the middle of nowhere or he would have used me to start TKing. They were also able to send messages as if they had come from me. He didn't have complete control as I was able to also send messages saying it wasn't me typing those things. We shared control.

I had no way of knowing who it was. They did not hack the server. They did not get the admin password. They didn't need it. They could take control of any players character. They could send any message they wanted using any players name they desired. Including their own. Then claim someone had control of their character. It could have been anyone. Everyone basically stopped playing and stood there and did nothing. No one typed. They just let the idiot have his fun. They soon decided that this was boring as they were getting no response from anyone and went somewhere else. They had made their point and moved on.

Unless the game and DirectX gets a complete rewrite I'm not sure much can be done about this. unless everyone wants to start banning entire ISP's from their servers. You could always run your server password protected and only allow a chosen few to play. I am of the opinion that I do not want to lock out people just because of a few idiots. But thats just my humble opinion.

Has no one heard of IP ban? Admins just need to be notified and he can see ip's from logs. Has to be done at server level to block the ip range. It was done in ofp and worked great on the RN server.

Also there is pretty easy ways of getting all there ip's from there website but I wont go in detail here.

At least in OFP you export your key from the registry (and re-import of course).

wake up, with dynamics IP reserved for each time You connect/disconnect ADSL/cable/wifi modem/receiver

this is NO option ... same goes for MAC banning, actual ID banning, nickname banning

even banning whole C groups of IPs is waste of time today
