Inaccurate Rifles

Hi All,

I'm getting a little frustrated by the inaccuracy of some of these rifles.

I shoot prone from about 50 metres away and the shot sometimes goes randomly to the left or right. I've shot a few rifles in real life and most of the time they will shoot straight at 50 top 100 meteres with no wind. It's usually the drop you have to account for over distance.

But in this game the shots go all over the place.

I'm holding my breath (zooming in) and prone and rested , yet my shot goes left or right. Is there something I need to do in addition to this ? Is it wind ? which we have no way of accounting for in this game ?

in case you talking about using a correct arma.exe this is the dispersion value in a rifles config I guess.

If this is as dramatic as it seems, it sounds like fade...

Meaning, whether you do not have a legal copy, or you messed with the exe in some way, or you have a very badly configured addon somewhere...

One question : do you happen to transform to seaguls suddenly with no apparent reason ?

I don't think he is talking about FADE, because if it was FADE the inaccuracy would be more drastic.

When using an M4 or M16 ACOG you can see the dispersion of the weapons pretty clearly. It does seem a bit overdone.

He's not talking about a hacked .exe, even so that shouldn't be a problem now.

Anyway I believe what you're seeing Terminus is the fact that you are a soldier that is carrying weight and has run for a considerable distance and may be on uneven ground. I have noticed that laying on a flat surface like a road after nothing more than a short walk will produce pretty accurate shooting. Also holding your breath too long will throw your accuracy off a little, I my self have remapped "hold breath" and tend to use just before I fire then release it after I shoot..

The next time you go target shooting try get out of breath and shoot on uneven ground as quickly as you would in game from standing, crouched and prone positions. I dont know what the outcome would be but it would be an interesting experiment.

I have noted the same thing. IRL I have fired many rifles and inaccuracy of ARMA's rifles is amazing. Don't know is my computer too slow. Mouse is restless and it is hard to aim & shoot targets only 30-50 meters away. Targetting system seems poor. IRL, I can shot MOVING targets up to 150 meters away and stationary targets 300+ meters away without problems. Of course this is without "battle stress", but still rifles SHOULD be more accurate in ARMA.

FADE is also triggered by false cd-keys so you can have a original game but use a fake key and that will trigger FADE

This topic has nothing to do with FADE. FADE makes the weapons shoot far away from the crosshair. This is about the dispersion of the weapon being too high over distance. As I said in my last post, you will notice this when using ACOG sights.

If you see your weapons shooting very innaccurately even with ironsights then it is FADE and has nothing to to with this topic.

There is NO Fade in ArmA as many topics have already discussed smile_o.gif However, if you are using any mounting tools such as DAEMON for instance, or a false CD key then it will affect your game.

However it could also just be the fact that your characters tired, they tend to spaz out after they've been running a while crazy_o.gif

this is the copy protection, I can hit moving targets up to 300m easily, standing still up to 1000m, SP & MP

Nope... sorry guys but this isnt FADE.

I too have noticed esp with the ACOG that my shots rarely hit close to the aimpoint of my sights but instead fly a feet to the left or right... no matter what. Close distance "sniping" with the ACOG gets pretty frustrating at time and more so when the target is moving.

The M4 Aimpoint seems to be more accurate though.

It only seems that way because it doesn't zoom as much as the ACOG. The ACOG is the only sight that really shows this problem.

It isn't that bad though, it does make the SPR and M24 preferred for longer ranges. Personally I don't have a major problem with it.

Well without mentioning anyone's name I will say that I have seen, first hand, ArmA inaccuracy AND the message "original games do not fade" in Armed Assault.

As an aside, is it possible that the training mission which puts you on the range also increases your ingame accuracy? I always thought that would be a cool way to do this.

No it doesn't. The mission is just there for practice.

yes this is already said by someone on this forum

in case if you aint using sorrycheapa$$ clones/keygen/heck .exe there is still a little problem along the scoped sights, take into account that after compare a ironsight weapon (ie. M4 without aimpoint) to a scoped verson of the same weapon(which should be using same config) the rounds clearly off the target slightly, hope BI could fix this

Its a dispersion setting in the config, as other have said its quite noticeable with the ACOG (see tracers), its very exagerated if you add the clumsy 3D sights and huge recoil.

There is also another problem with them, unlike the MG's the M16,M4,AK74, etc have the same recoil in all 3 diferent stances.

They shouldnt kick so hard in prone and a bit less in crouch... like in OPF. I honestly hope it will be fixed...

Mmhh well...

...it's very hard to simulate real life accurately in a computer game. What I'm thinking is that there must be some way to simulate the inaccuracies of real life. In the game there are many things missing compared to real life like getting sand/snow into your eyes, getting sand/snow into your weapon's ironsights, rain coming at your face, your hands freezing in cold weather (It slows operating your weapon and reloading quite significantly, I know this from personal experience in temperatures of as low as -35 degrees Celcius. It can get extremely hard to reload a magazine with bullets if you must expose your hands to the cold air in that kind of temperatures. Aiming and pulling the trigger is also slowed down as your hands and fingers just don't work as fast as in warm weather.), actual fear of dying, getting tired like not getting enough sleep (you know it has an enormous effect on your abilities if you experienced good and exhaustive training lasting a couple of days at least while you were in army) or too much physical stress.

In practice sessions in military yes from 150 meters one should quite accurately be able to hit a static target of about size 20 centimeters when in prone position (RK-62 with ironsights only) and taking the time to aim properly. It's just that it is a much more relaxed situation than I imagine it to be in an actual battle. During the battle simulations in army the physical and mental stress already rises enough to reduce accuracy quite a lot from what it is at the shooting range. How do you simulate that effect in a computer game, is I think why the BIS developers let the bullet go also left or right instead of just dropping as I believe that way we get closer to the accuracy you can achieve in a battle situation. I think if we truly want to simulate a real battle situation then it is too easy to hit a target in the game as it is now. I don't believe I could be able to reach the same level of accuracy in a real life battle as I can in the game.

Good point, now tell that to the a.i. tounge2.gif .

I've been inacurate in OPF because i was being shot at from several areas or lost my aim because i was surprised, shot at or injured.

A good combat game should make you feel a little... tense or nervous in some situations and that should naturally impact your capabilities in game. Fear for life in a virtual environment > the reason some play with no respawns..

There are things that should be simulated in game and other things experienced outside the game, by the player wink_o.gif .

Inacurate rifles is not the way to go unless they behave like this in the real world, i dont like being shot because my rifle refused to shoot straight.

The rifles are inaccurate when you have an illegal copy of ArmA or if you are using a hacked exe. Closing.
