Like I said before, check out the Ethiopian war guys. In the 90's, a small part of Ethiopia called Eritria rebelled against the mother country. Eritria virtualy had no air force, but several Arab countries (Sudan, Algeria, Libya) decided to aid this small country. They sponsored purchases of Mig-21s, 23's, 29's from Russia, Belorus, Romania, Bolgaria and others. Ukranian mercenaries were flying those planes fighting the Ethiopians pilots and also Russian mercenaries. Both Ethiopia and Eritrea didn't have well-trained pilots, so the Ukranians and the Russians did all the hard fighting and bombing missions. I still remember how Moscow was flooded with these black guys with briefcases full of cash trying to buy ANY military equipment they could find! So you see, Sahrani could get some outside "sponsors" who can purchase Mig-29's, Grippens, Mirages, Su-27's, F-14's, 16's, 18's. Then some mercenaries can fly those planes for the North and South and we can have some very potent game-story.

Oh yes. These are definitely gonna add a whole new dimension to the game. Perfect idea .COMmunist, thanks for the info.

.COMmunist - you took the words right out of my brain. I keep thinking of a mercenary pilot campaign for the SLA would be pretty cool.

The only difference of opinion I have is that I'm not so sure outside sponsors are willing to lend out some heavy duty equipment that may get dinged up. MiG-23s, etc. I can definitely imagine though.

Well the Ethiopian/Eritrian conflict saw some Mig-29's vs. Su-27 combat (Ukranians vs. the Russians). Mig-23's were mainly used for bombing mission (more like Mig-27's). Mig-21's were also mainly used for bombing missions. Sponsors understand the danger of loosing these planes, so it is not that far fetched. The scenario could be that Venezuela allows Russians to build a military seaport on the shore. US wants to monitor all activities around that area. They find a small island nearby called Sahrani and decides to build a radar station for monitoring. The government of Sahrani agrees for a hefty price tag, but the northern part of the island, led by pro-socialist and pro-Chavez politicians, opposes these plans. Now the conflict is brewing and both the Russians and the Americans are ready to supply arms for those who is willing to fight...

Here is your story line.

I'm not against some of the higher end equipment, afterall the US military IS in the game, and with that bring their "big guns", I wonder if a country would supply some equipment to counter the US presence. The thing is though, is that Sahrani is a very very very small island. If one side has a multi billion dollar aircraft sitting on one spot of the island, what would keep it from being blown to bits in a matter of days? Would most of these aircraft come from a seperate country or what? Theres lot to think about. There are 2 airports, seperated by what, 50 miles or so? By day 3 of the initial war, you'd think both airports and all aircraft would have been shot to hell. Most towns would be in a blaze or rubble.

What would make sense though would be a scenerio somewhat like the Falklands, where you have "mother" countries duking it out on this island although you really want to just keep it n vs s sahrani and not 'political'.

@Jarvis, thats something that came to my mind as well, and the fact the both airports on the "mainland" are way too small to host a military and a civilian part, but who says that the island of Sahrani is the whole country? I mean Alex Sworns "Syr Darain" Island has a huge airport and could very well belong to the kingdom, making its airport and many bases an ideal place for the RACS air force, now we only need something like that for the north...

@communist: of course, mercs! that's a great idea, now I remember an article I once read about Oman in the eighties, they 'rented' a whole bunch of royal airforce personnel to operate their hawker hunters.

the VTE guys have a mig 19 Mig 17 F4 F5 A4 A6 and several others in thier MOD but unfortunately they package it all together. You are stuck with thier splash screens and NVA, VC, and only USAF markings on the plane. too bad it doesnt go with the gameplay we already have.

I got like over a thousand shots of the E and F, and a .3ds model of an F version, as the intakes don't look too good, and there's a reference shot for the legacy Hornets, as the grey is off, as it's actually two tone, not one as you have it.

The Su-25 is a good choice to bring back, but then again the cold war-rearmed team are bringing it back,

After I'm done all the stuff I'm working on now, I'd like to try a jet (if the mh-53m goes well).

I like the idea of an F15 Strike Eagle or for older stuff an F104 and MiG 21, also a U-2 just for fun.

in all honesty who cares if the RACS or SLA would be able to afford the aircraft. The United States and Russia have long been known for giving equipment and training to nations and people who can barely afford to feed themselves. I think another variable to think about is chineese equipment...Q5 and J7 stuff like that. But even beyond that lets forget the financial side and get anything and everything possible into the game. If you dont want to use it....dont sownload it

I completely agree, the arguement against the usefullness or realism in having jet fighters other than A-10 or Harrier in ArmA for the size of the main island is pure pointless.

On Diego Garcia, they have one of the largest number of aircraft based there for such a small piece of real estate. Many US and foriegn airbases do not contain that much airpower projection ability as does Diego Garcia and only a few airbases probably equal or beat it.

If a friendly nation is in significant interest of a major world power, they will deploy the properly needed military power to ensure their interest stays protected.

So if that means front line aircraft based, powerful naval ships nearby, and a large army presence, it will be there.

Bring on the F-16's, F-15's, F/A-18's, Mirages, MiG's, Sukoi's, and bomber craft. We need our 4 or 5 to 1 odds missions with quality vs numbers.

Has anybody else taken a look in the VTE stuff. They have some very impressive aircraft. A-6 intruder, F-5, Several A-4s, Mig 17 and 19, a working C130, and some pretty awesome hueys. They are very Alpha and still need alot of work and only have USAF and NVAF markings. I wanted to draw more attention to them so the community can give them a hand on getting them complete. wouldnt a RACS F-105 thunderchief be really cool? SLA Mig 19 with FAB 500s..... the possibilities are endless......

Yeah I just dled it tonight and the models and textures are a bit low quality, but definately cool to fly. Although I would prefer better handling and the Mig19 is useless to fly almost...

well i have been working to smooth the mig 19 out. I know they didnt ask for this but if i finish it and give it back to them i doubt they will complain. hell im not even asking for credits

Franze was nice enough to allow me to get the corrected scheme. Pretty much it needs some tweaking, but overall not bad so far, just have to get the mapping understood. I'll also update the E version as well.

But please don't land/take-off to many times at those dirty-dusty airstrip (think of electronics and tax payers)
