csj 0 Posted March 14, 2007 Basically I have been working on "Subs - Mini Subs & Scuba" today and found the base workings of such Units are simple in Arma. This is X-1 mini-sub pic, have scuba and water scooter setup also. (all much of a muchness) Also means we can have real torps. Obviously the end sight of this project is a SEAL DSv "Delivery System vehicle" although larger subs possible. Would like some assistance from interested ppl with scripting ability (sqs , cfg's etc) Just PM thanx Couple of areas in game that I need help with.. ---- one more thing a Diver reskin would be cool

operation madman 0 Posted March 15, 2007 Y make a WW2 one? make a modern us navy seals one. And todays seals sub can fit people inside the sub with 1 driver seat and in the vack a very small area the 2 people can fit in. Oh and they have 2 moniters in the back to see their location and in the water and they have somthing that gudes them. I think it was a GPS. dont now but i now it was built in. Good luck with your mod as i will be the first to download it.
urbanwarrior 0 Posted March 15, 2007 it wont have GPS because it doesn't work under water as RF dissipates very quickly in water, unless its ULF in which case the antenna is impractically long, you could use inertial navigation though, try and model it into the mod so you could know where you are in relation to where you started, that way you could atleast always find your way back, dont how you would add something like that but it would be quite good if you could
Timblesink 0 Posted March 15, 2007 Sweet. I've always wanted a sub in OFP - And now there's a real one in ArmA! w00t.

xav 0 Posted March 20, 2007 Can you explain how you get the depth value displayed? Do you use worldToModel (http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/worldToModel) in your script? thanks
csj 0 Posted March 20, 2007 No, for test purpose I just use _sublevel=(getPos _sub select 2) hint format["Depth %1",_sublevel]
warpuppy 0 Posted March 31, 2007 Hi there all Just wondering if there is an update on this project It looks awesome
Jahve 0 Posted March 31, 2007 Nice! Now if you could make a SEAL SDV :P http://www.fas.org/irp/program/collect/seal_sdv.htm
USNavySEAL-Op 0 Posted April 23, 2007 SDV is a smaller, more "square" looking utility. Link above my post here explains it well. As well, the ASDS information made available on the link above my post is correct. In terms of underwater navigation, while I can't go into specifics - SEALs do have "similar to GPS" tools for hydrographic survey and orientation. Of course there are always the "classic" and more basic methods, such as dive boards. Depth and compass, and your swim buddy keeping kick counts.
csj 0 Posted April 24, 2007 Quote[/b] ]Just wondering if there is an update on this project ATM tis project is shelved. I will continue soon I hope but there is not much point putting a saddle on a dead horse so I am back doing OFP stuff for the time being. I will definitely contact those that offered help with specs etc when the time is right.
[aps]gnat 28 Posted April 24, 2007 but there is not much point putting a saddle on a dead horse so I am back doing OFP stuff for the time being. Huh? I can only assume u mean the missing Tools CSJ, but theres still plenty that can be done without. (he says as he procrastinates about his own projects lol )
UNN 0 Posted April 24, 2007 Quote[/b] ]I can only assume u mean the missing Tools CSJ Perhaps, but there are also problems reading the depth of water at any particular point. All the usual work arounds...don't work. I even had a roadway object that you could see on the ocean floor, but it still won't return a negative height below sea level and the distance commands just ignores anything under water. Have you looked into this with your subs Gnat?
[aps]gnat 28 Posted April 25, 2007 Have you looked into this with your subs Gnat? No I hadn't UNN, but I trying to understand the importance at this stage of ArmAs and an addons infancy ..... why do you really need it for this type of addon? Doesnt the sea floor just bounce you up off it?
UNN 0 Posted April 25, 2007 Quote[/b] ]why do you really need it for this type of addon?Doesnt the sea floor just bounce you up off it? It does slide about a little bit if you try and force  it into the sea bed. But because it's impossible to read the depth without counting it out it yourself, you would soon loose track of the actual depth if the scripts think the sub is still sinking. Perhaps it's possible to keep an eye on the vertical velocity, so you know when it hits an obstruction. Will have to try a few more experiments.
