Prydain 1 Posted July 12, 2007 Is the E6420 better than the AMD 6000? I have also seen a 512MB RADEON HD 2600XT PCI-E graphics card for the same price as a 512MB RADEON X1950 PRO PCI-E, witch one is better out of the two?

madtkboy 0 Posted July 16, 2007 Here are my specs of my 5 year old PC (hoping to get upgrade soon): Intel P4 2.4ghz running at 2.6 Asus P4PE mobo ATI 1600 Pro 512mb 1024 Mbs of DDR 333 ram Since I'm buying a new paintball marker soon, my cash flow is restricted and I cant get a new PC yet. Right now I need to run arma on pretty much the lowest settings (except the objects and texture settings which i do normal and low respectively since any lower = objects dont get rendered till they're in my face) to get decent framerates (25-35 if i'm really lucky) and in forests it all goes to hell. I'm wondering if upgrading to 2gbs of ram would help or is my computer really beyond help? I just want it to hold me over till I get a new PC but I still want to play arma at a good framerate. (top notch graphics at the moment are not the biggest concern, just playable framerates so like anything 20-25 or more fps is good)
Prydain 1 Posted July 16, 2007 I cannot belive this but my headset has broken, as soon as I get a new system.... typical. Anyone recomend a reliable headset that is clear and good quality, I brought my last one three times so I am not keen on Logitec.

Although this is kind of off topic: I can recommend the speedlink medusa 5.1 usb headset. I bought it a few days ago and so far im very happy with it. Cost me 54 €. Sound is quite nice. But i have to admit, that i didnt test the mic till now, i'll do that this evening.
tj72 0 Posted July 19, 2007 SONY has nice Studio Style ones at various price ranges. The Cheapie is 30 dollars (MDR-v250) I also saw some sweet ones in FYE. THink they were called Skull Candy or something like that.

ziiip 1 Posted July 20, 2007 How do you think a 8800 GTS 230 MB, Pentium D 2.8 Ghz, 1 GB @ 400 Mhz RAM machine would run this game?
Acecombat 0 Posted July 22, 2007 How do you think a 8800 GTS 230 MB, Pentium D 2.8 Ghz, 1 GB @ 400 Mhz RAM machine would run this game? The CPU and RAM speed will be a big bottleneck for that 8800GTS. I have a similiar setup except i got a 6600GT and 2.4 Ghz CPU and i cannot play on high settings with good frame rates at all. I intend to get a Q6600 when its price drops and 2 GB RAM along with a 8800GTS or GTX depending upon the price when i go out to buy in a month or so. Btw can anyone tell me does ARMA make ANY use of the multi cores? Will the Quad enjoy any benefits over the dual cores? Also i've heard and seen people with 8800 getting random CTD's consistently in arma , whats the deal there? Its the high end card and its having troubles? How the hell do you play this game on HIGH then? Hows the 2900XT's response to arma aswell. If anyone can answer these queries they will greatly help me in my buying decisions. Those who already have similiar setups please give us a peformance run down of your experience in ArmA atm.
ck-claw 1 Posted July 22, 2007 There seems to be alot of ppl in here that have soo much probs with the 8800! But everyone i know who's bought one- cannot speak highly enough of it for ArmA!

BTW I know that the CPU will limit the VGA but it will still be a LOT better. To answer your question: no, not even dual-core processors enjoy any benefit over single-core processors in ArmA. Acecombat 0 Posted July 22, 2007 Hmm no multi core support sucks. I assume a patch wont help remedy the problem either? Since it would require the whole of the game programming/engine to be overhauled and rewritten in a fashion to take advantage of the many cores .. right? Hope BIS is taking notes for this on the Nextgen game.
-HUNTER- 1 Posted July 23, 2007 at acecombat Your alive! and on topic P4 3ghz Dual Core 1024mbDDRII X1950PRO 10:6 widescr but I usually have poor performance with turning arround so it has to load a new bunch of objects. The object needs time to load, and therefor it gives low FPS which is annoying since my pc should be able to play atleast at high settings. It runs like a dream in any other game. Does anybody know a good explanation of what all the features represent and do. Not in high tech langauge but for the noobs among us. And not only what the settings in arma does. But also the usual settings for a 3d graphics card. Like AA and all the harder things. I want to know what improves arma performance and what doenst. So I can tweak it, Ive tried allready offcourse but didnt manage to get any good effect.
Acecombat 0 Posted July 23, 2007 Was i supposed to be dead? So Manhunt you got a E6850 and a X1950 and still get LOD issues? Anyone know how to fix these LOD issues, they werent so bad in OFP atleast we had the option to tweak it aswell. Dont see so in ArmA.

And you can't kill the service in the taskmanager ? Anyway you then have to disable it's autostart and turn it on manually.
