    Hardware and settings for ArmA

I don't want to start another topic with this. I'm quite happy with the fps of my HD3850 AGP. I get between 20 and 80 fps from North to South. But is there any GPU out there that can handle Paraiso ? 80 fps in the desert are wasted if you approach a town adn the fps drop to 10 -20. ?

    ArmA and CPU power

Interesting topic. Did anybody test and did set the core affinity to the second CPU (1) on a dualcore ?

upgraded from E6600 to Q9550. Massive improvement

I think i better take your advice. I guess the risk of investing now in an "old" Q6600 is really too high, even they are quite cheap. I'll better take my E6600 on a new P45-board, new RAM and a HD4870 or so and have a major improvement. thanks guys

upgraded from E6600 to Q9550. Massive improvement

That's why I started this thread. We are told that we need a good graphics card to play this game, but it occurs to me that pretty much, any old clunker will do provided it meets the minimum spec, ie shader 3 etc. A fellow clan member had a Pentium dual core and X1950 pro GFX and could play ArmA quite comfortably. When he upgraded to a Q6600, the game was transformed. Still the same crummy old VGA, but loads more CPU grunt. I'm beginning to suspect ArmA players like myself have been too much importance on the graphics card and not enough on the CPU. Maybe you're right, but did you read this above ? As it is "good old Arma", i wouldn't be suprised to get some more fps...

Good morning, if you are right with the CPU power and ArmA, i thought to upgrade to a now cheap Q6600, to get some more out of my HD3850. What do you think ? I could later transfer the Q6600 and overclock it on a new P45-board with DDR2/PCIe-board. cheers my current rig: Conroe865PE - C2D E6600 @2520 - FSB280 - ThermalRight SI-128 - 2GB GSkill DDR400 2.3.3.5 - HIS Radeon HD3850 IceQ 3 Turbo - Cinergy XS - Audigy SE - Enermax ELT500AWT - IBM CRT 21" - XPhome SP3

    Arma on 4850 X2 2GB vram

Thanks to all for your posts. I can understand that Game Producers generally should not recommend one or the other GPU producer. But as we all know, Arma is tough to find out your best quality/performance settings.Anyway i read that e.g. nVidia's 260s run a bit better than my first favored 4870. Some questions remain unanswered, maybe you can help: 1) If not a CF/X2 card, would Arma benefit of 2 GB videoram anyway ? 2) I've read too that Arma needs CPU power, but what i've seen, my C2D E6600 was never stretched to the max ? Afai remember it was about 50-70 % ?

    Arma on 4850 X2 2GB vram

So Arma can't handle this ? Does it take any advantage at all of a 2x Card ? Regarding this, is there any statement by BI what Graphicards perform best with Arma ?

    Arma on 4850 X2 2GB vram

Good morning, does anybody know how Arma would run and benefit of 2 GB Videoram (e.g. 4850 X2) comparing to a single GTX280 (890 MB) ? thanks a lot, cheers, hit-man

Arma installation and Swap file ?

Thanks for your replies. I just do a fresh install of Arma on my second harddrive D now and have disabled the swap file. I think i test using a fixed swapfile afterwards. I'm curious if i can "feel" a little better loading time. Will then have a look on Disktrix's UD to put them on the outer edge of the HDD. But i've read about this too, there are games that load so much data that you need to have a Swapfile. Btw, i just play Evolution SP and my fps when attacking the first city Paraiso went down to 7-11 fps (usually about 40-60 fps on medium settings). Don't know if anything went wrong with addons and so. But this is another story...
  10. Hi Gamers, with no high end GPU running, i'm always optimizing my old rig for performance. What is the best setup if you have at least 2 harddrives (C+D) : 1) C = Windows + Arma D = Swapfile 2) C = Windows D = Arma + Swap 3) C = Windows + Swap D = Arma cheers, gambla

ARMA with SSD / Flash drives ?

Thanks for your testing. Is this steam version comparable to the normal version or are there major differences ? Did you notice any slight increase in FPS ? As far as i read tests about SSDs and Gaming, i guess that Arma could benefit of 2-3 fps on the minimum fps. But i believe it's definetly hard to benchmark this.

ARMA with SSD / Flash drives ?

Thanks for your answers. Yes, RAID is an alternative, but i just wonder how these SSDs run with Arma. Can anybody confirm this saying about the massive harddrive reloading of Arma ? By the way, just searched the net today for SSDs and Gaming, the latest tests of the brand new (and brand expensive) SSDs by IBM show in fact an increase in minimum FPS for Crysis. Now i consider to buy one of the latest 32GB OCZ SSD Core 2 drives for a current 100 €s in Germany (120 $ ?)...
  13. Hi, there may have been some posts yet but i couldn't find a thread on this topic ? Is anybody running Arma on a Solid Stae Disk / Flash Drive ? If yes, what is your experience ? I remember a statement that Arma's performance also depends on a fast harddrive as it loads lot of data from it. Maybe a next brithday present ! thanks!

    RHS Hind v1.0 for ArmA

Hi, i've tested to fix it by re-pbo-ing but it didn't help ? I've Arma 1.14 + GQ running. Any idea ?
  15. Hi, i've a group of vehicles and like to have each crew disembark with a trigger. Any way to do this without waypoints ? thank you very much !
