ArmA Addon request thread

Recommended Posts

its certainly as a strange a looking rifle as the SA80, true. SLR was replaced in the 1980's. As far as I'm aware its not in use anywhere in the british forces, at least not in front line duties. Same goes for the L2A3.

The uk gpmg doesnt use the red wood stock, nor does it use an ammo box. It's sprayed black (of sorts) and uses a black plastic stock. Instead of an ammo tin (in the personal weapon role this is) it uses a 100 round link belt.

we just like to be different it seems tounge2.gif

Hmmmm does seem a bit odd for you to be releasing all these addons (which I'm sure are top quality) but mostly out of date with regards to the British Army.

That's the point of PUKF, we're trying to release up to date current equipment, not weapons that were retired some 15 years ago, or were never taken into service.

So:

Quote[/b] ]R3MF - "i just want the Project UK Forces crew to release their stuff"

L1A1 SLR, L85 XL70, L2A3 already released

For someone who says they want to see British kit in game aren't you heading in the wrong direction?

Not cracnky, just asking.

MOVED AS REQUESTED:

One of the few things, bar, subsurface facial rendering and some physics the DX10 engine of Crysis appears to do over the current DX9 ARMA engine. Is this big rumour there are tacticle nukes in Crysis.

Can either BHI or a modder, add one fast to ARMA please.

Even a stachel charge with a 500 meter blast range, a nice mushroom cloud effect with a blast wave that's a ramped up version of the the dust from a helicopter landing would be a laugh for "sandbox" nutters like me who like to see how much stuff can you blow up in one go.

A multiplyer "Cap the nuke, then use it" not the flag, would be a hoot as well.

I can see the HDR trigger, you go blind for a bit, nice fireball, then fancy mushroom cloud. blast wave eminate. And 20-50 players in MP shouting "Oh sh*T!"

This would pretty much be a gaming first though!

What do you lot think?

Hi guys i had some ideas for some jet planes, I myself have no modding experience, but i thought i'd give these ideas:

A-10 Thunderbolt II, a brillant US plane, a good tank buster

F-22 Raptor, also a brillant US plane

A RAF side including, but not just;

Tornado GR.4, with its Storm Shadow torpedoes,

Harrier GR.7 & GR.7A, two cool UK harrier conversions

Jaguar GR.3 & GR.3A, nice, strong fighters and finally

The Eurofighter Typhoon, a jet with a top speed of 1,480mph!

Those are just ideas, i would do make em, but like i said, i don't know how to mod, so i can only hope someone uses these, if you want some more just ask, i got loads lol smile_o.gif

"So, what's the most unusual military vehicle you can think of? Maybe the Japanese airplane-launching submarine of WW2? Or perhaps the Soviet attempts to build a flying tank? Or perhaps the 1000 ton rolling fortress the Germans tried to build in WW2? All quite odd, I agree, but barely made it past the drawing boards. For us, the oddest is a scooter armed with a 75mm cannon.

After World War II, there was little money for defense spending while the nations of Europe rebuilt their industry and society. When there was some cash to spend, one had to be creative to stretch it as far as possible. The French probably accomplished the most astounding example of that with the ACMA Troupes Aeról Portées Mle. 56. Deployed with their airborne forces, this was essentially a militarized Vespa scooter outfitted with a 75mm recoilless rifle. Five parachutes would carry the two-man gun crew, weapon, ammunition, and two scooters safely to earth, and the men would load the weapon on one scooter and the ammo on the other, then ride away. More impressively, the recoilless rifle could be fired effectively on the move by the best of the gun crews. Total cost? About $500 for the scooter and the recoilless rifle was war surplus. Were they successful military machines? Well, the French Army deployed about 800 armed scooters in wars conducted in both Algeria and Indochina."

"Apparently, recoil was not a problem whatsoever, and this little scooter could (and did) wreak serious havoc."

I reckon the UKF mod team will cater for most of that given their track record in OFP  biggrin_o.gif

OK im not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but this isnt an addon, its a bit of a change to the game...

ok as im a newb i may have this wrong, but you have to bind different buttons to prone and unprone. cant they make it so its only one button that is used.

also it might just be me but i cant use scroll mouse or mouse button 4/5..

it would make the game easier to play if these were changed

Well the XL70 actually is an SA80. The same Armalite

AR-180 action stuffed into a bullpup format firing 5.56mm

NATO, it's just that the furniture and some external details

are different. I remember those old promo pics where they

showed a bod with the "new IW" standing beside a bod with

an SLR. The IW was always held across the chest so it

looked short and handy and the SLR was always held out

towards the camera so it looked a mile long!

And, yes, the SLR and SMG were phased out of British service

over 25 years ago - even the Senior Service don't use them

any more! They were still in use through the 1990s but by

now all of the SLRs are destroyed, legally deactivated or are

now in the hands of "soldiers" in Sierra Leone (most of the

rifles were all old and well-knackered anyway although some

lucky British lads did get brand new wooden furnitured ones

from a war emergency stock just before they were phased

out and withdrawn). They were carried [reputedly] by the SAS in GW1.

Some Brits took SLRs to the Gulf and derived some merriment

from screwing the gas regulators up tight (so they'd kick like

f**k) and then letting unwitting American boys fire them so

they'd go away thinking "what a real man's rifle them thar

Redcoats have!"! whistle.gif

The L2A3 was replaced in its role by the SA80 - they were

never especially popular anyway. The crappo ammo we got

in the 1980s didn't much agree with them either. You would

often either get to watch the bullet hit the ground 20 yards

downrange or have the gun run away with you as the ammo

failed to force the bolt back far enough to engage the sear!

crazy_o.gif

Yeah, the wooden stocked GPMG became obsolescent when

Maranyl was approved for use for weapon furniture in October

1969! So plastic stocks were being used almost before I'd got

my first Action Man! In any case the shape of the butt on

the M240 is wrong for the British wooden butt, the flash hider

on the M240 is wrong too for a British gun and you'd need to

remove the "picatinny rail" affair on it as well, and add the

proper dovetail for the C2 and the IWS. But, OK, if one just

wants to rush it out and doesn't much give a crap for detail

or authenticity then yes I'm sure a quick repaint of the BIS

model would satisfy.  wink_o.gif

Roll on the release of the UKF stuff!

Not "different"..."better"!    tounge2.gif

edit: Sorry, the M240 butt shape is only wrong for the first

style of wooden GPMG butt. I believe that the wooden ones

are only really used by the Royal Navy and TA these days,

though. Here's the first style of wooden butt illustrated in the

User Manual for the L7A1 GPMG, dated 1962:

L7A1.jpg

I'll have to be doing this early model for the boys of SPEARHEAD (qv in

a thread elsewhere in this forum)

A good us army class A uniform with jump boots would make me salivate. Or I could just end up making it, and use that as a good way to learn modelling.

Faulkner - yeah, I know its an SA80 in terms of its guts and glory, but in terms of visual aesthetics:

bild_sa80_03.jpg

bizarre looking thing, but I guess you can see the family resemblance.

I thought of some realism and unit changes if anyone wants to use them:

1: Droplines for helis, you can't parachute from low altitude so dropline should be used instead

2:Countermeasures, planed and helis should be able to use ant-anti-air devices to stop the enemys AA weapons

3:Mid-Air refueling, the allowence that heli pilots and plane pilots can get refueled and rearmed without landing, also the droplines can pickup troops mid-air, helis refueled by helis while hovering, planes attached to a big plane like a Hercules

Unit wise, mainly just improvements to the units, and i would do this now, but i can't get O2 to work confused_o.gif
