AAN - ArmA Navy

I don't really know how mandoble's scripts work. Will the Kusnetsov engage any air threat (ie not of side "friendly") ? Or do the mission maker have to specify which target to engage ?

Actually I have a baseline version which enganges any surface, land, air or incoming missile contact of different side than the carrier (missile sides are handled by mando missile kernel), except civilian and logicSide. It is also able to engange remote targets automatically, for example, marked by a player using a laser designator. If there is a driver, it may take control of the SS-N-19 launcher and fire them against any map position within range.

The system is quite flexible and allows several different configuration of the carrier for both, missiles and automatic guns. The current "baseline" setup might be a bit unbalancing as the only way to effectively penetrate the defenses is with

and launching sonobuoy along the possible paths of the carrier. Else you would need a real submarine to get close enough to get a lock and fire its own torpedoes. But Gnat might decide to integrate also an ASW launcher within the carrier tounge2.gif

actualy you can't penetrate defences even with torpedoes, Kuznetsov has Udav-1 system to destroy incoming torpedoes(also could engage submarines) and AK-630 gatling guns could be aimed at torpedoes...

although one thing that kuznetsov lacks is airwing's air-to-surface extended capabilities, but when Su-33UB will be on it's deck, it'll we fixed smile_o.gif

btw is it possible to make a ship's smoke screens with countermeasures ability?

Yes every body who is interested in these ships should really learn how to use mando missiles, Ive already got a load of the ingame small boats decked out with missiles ready for when the big ships are released so i can just switch the addons and im off.

I really want a sub ingame :-)))

Mankyle, that version of the script is not ready for carriers, the

(still under tests with the Kusnetzov) is. I will try also this one for more complex carrier ops, but that would require a player sacrifized moving planes here and there over the flight deck.

Not sure about Alicante, might be Valencia sometime this summer wink_o.gif

Thank you Mandoble for your explanation. I never found the time to test any of your addons, though sad_o.gif

Would be nice having a fully working SAM system for all sides with radar logic (based on incoming unit's config, like its visibility or something similar to simulate effective surface to the radar). The new static AA units included in 1.14 are nice but hardly efficient. Twin stingers rarely hit a moving target ingame !

Furthermore, having this system adapted to defend static airports would make even more challenging ! In reality, military airports have a huge and dense shielded airspace.

However, for gameplay reasons, being unable to attack or penetrate a carrier's or an airport's airspace for miles around is not fun. I know it's realistic smile_o.gif But the size of the maps (well, the one we currently have) is so restricted that a real SAM system would prevent any aircraft reaching higher than 50m on whole Sahrani...

To get back to Gnat's beautiful work : the Kusnetsov is a great ship. There's also a Nimitz, released some time ago. Would you make a new one ?

For some missions, some landing ships would be needed (like LHA/LHD, LST etc..). I remember a LPD48 addon for OFP, is something similar in the works for ArmA ?

Mando Missile launchers already consider line or sight and knowledge level of the enemy, as well as enemy sides array. Line of sight is not checked for remote targets (these provided by third party units), or map positions. And kownledge level might be set to 0 (standoff or BVR attacks) or higher to ensure the firing unit knows something about the target. These apply to systems handled by players as well as AI.

malick you should try Clash of armadas in mando bombs, 2 aircraft carriers on the map, you can attack them with swarm missile/aircraft attacks :-)

I have done some experiments with Mando Airfield scripts and choppers and the effect looks a lot like the RAST sistem and once Gnat releases his Frigates these helicopters will become a very useful asset in very big maps such as OFP world.

Now you would only have to talk to yurapetrov to add his extremely beautiful Seahawks to the mix.

I can imagine an AI guided LHD with human or AI piloted choppers defended by gnat's frigates steaming to enemy islands and unloading all his deadly cargo: Soldiers, choppers, LCACs, LCTs, tanks, ICVs,.....

meanwhile enemy subs could roam the sealanes while the ASW choppers try to detect them with sonobuoys under the protection umbrella of Harriers or F-18s doing CAP.

Of course, if the big LHDs are sunk the attacking effort would be impeded.

In extremely big maps his would bring the CTI concept to a very new level !!!!!!!!!!!

I know that most Militaries around the world have stopped using Battleships,but who cannot resist the big guns of the Iowa Class Battleship or it's international counterparts.but they would be fun to include.

I'm trying to find a Counter-part for the SLA,But all I'am coming up with pre-WWII Russian Battleships.The most modern thing I can find is the Kirov-class BattleCruiser.And there is only 5 of them!

Remember the Iowa and Missouri are WW2 era battle ships that have undergone extensive modernisation.

The best Russian equivalent that was in service beyond ww2 would probably be the Sverdlov class cruisers but these are still less than 1/2 the displacment of the Iowa class. But would make excelent handme downs to a force such as the SLA navy.

Also be about right for any Cold War senarios

Try doing a "Print this Topic" Search for naval yard, or some variant of that, in the WIP thread and maybe in the AddOns Request thread. I think there was screen shots and/or a discussion/announcement about some type of naval yard. If I remember correctly it was one of the Map Makers working on it. I think that was last winter when I saw it though.
