East Wepons vs West Weapons

Also why does the M4 only have burst? o.0

Classic M4 confusion on behlaf of either the dev's or the users.

The M4 (A0) should be semi/burst

The M4A1 should be semi/full.

In theory, any model with a removable carry handle (or flat top with a RIS mounted optic) should be semi/full, any model with a fixed carry handle should be semi/burst.

Americans should have just done:

M4A1 - Semi/Burst

M4A2 - Semi/Full

Hope this confusion gets soughted out soon!  confused_o.gif

Why? That makes no sense at all. The M4 (can also be called M4A0, it's the original unmodified M4 model) is (supposedly) the carbine version of the M16A2, which is also semi/burst. The A1 model is the first modification of it, which included a S-1-F (semi/full auto) trigger group instead of S-1-3.

Actually, my issued M4 has a removable carry handle, and is semi-burst

it's up to the mission maker to ensure the mission is enjoyable. the only weapon that i can see as being a bit too good is the m249 which should 'buzz' just a little bit more when fired unsupported standing/crouched.

some nice m249 training vid. you can see the 'buzz' even while prone supported.

canadian c9 - the original Canadian Armed Forces C9 is a standard factory Minimi with a steel tubular stock. from wiki.

another reference nazarain. not sure

http://www.nazarian.no/wep.asp....g=0&p=8

and some general mad machine gun craziness

sights being added for opfor in 505 version should help level the playing field a bit more because sights do give a real advantage.

edit - added youtube references.

^ Why do you think so? If you've ever shot an M4 and an AK47 the recoil is much less with the M4 (obviously).

The M249 shoots the same round as the M4 but is also heavier. The PK shoots a round larger than the AK47 (IIRC) so the recoil should be much harsher.

I know the ROF is higher on the M249 but I would not anticipate a significant difference between the M4 and the M249's recoil.

A friend of mine lugs the SAW around Baghdad so I'll have to ask him now that I'm curious.

T72 is hard to judge but in the hands of Russians its deadly, DU rounds and latest FCS/FLIR. Hard to say whether North Regime would have had access to them or not.

The US Army has lots of practice killing T72's by now and I think its obvious which tank is better smile_o.gif

I think that Israel's Merkava, Germany's Leopard, Britan's Challenger and the likes of those, are better competitors for the Abrams.

But back on topic, I agree. The east weapons are inferior to their west counterparts, just as in real life. And while I do appreciate the fairness argument, I tend to side with those that say that real life is not fair.

Yeah, Iraqi crappy ones lol

Rather have a dustbin lid and stick.

No it doesn't. It's the same size, but there is a difference in grain. It's part of the reason why firing the 249 with a mag taken from an M16 or M4 isn't that good of an idea, the other part being the weaker spring in the magazine can't always keep up with the bolt on the 249.

the saw has practically no recoil as one would think in real life, the m4 has little to none, and the saw being heavier further suppresses any recoil that would be there. It's totally controllable, and can be used almost as easily as the m4 in MOUT, and doing reflexive fire drills.

just thinking about it, and there are some quite lovely east weapons around.

the ak101, ak102, ak103, ak104, ak105, ak107, ak108. the an94. the AEK-971. heck, even the good old rpk would be good to see in ArmA.

but nothing really wrong with current weapons imho. all kill quite thoroughly and the bullets go where you aim.

West vs East weapons, online i always try to get PK or AK47, even if i have m4. I seem to kill people more easily with PK and AK online. Didn't have a slightest problem with gunsight on PK, i still sniped people with PK.....

The RPK would have been nice to balance (even if only

visually) the "automatic riflemen" on the Western side.

While i'm not looking for a complete balance in weapons, eastern weapons currently are lacking in variety in Arma. It would be nice to have a RPK-74, an eastern SMG like the Bizon, or even specialist weapons like the AS VAL or VSS.

M4 Aimpoint is more disapointing than the Ak in my eyes and the damn weapon calibrations on the M4 (on my clanserver) dont quite cut it, so I just attempt to grab M16.

On the contrary I think it is better, I point and shoot it way faster than I can the M4's with aimpoints. In fact I think the aimpoints are overall pretty poorly done in the game. In reality they make quick precise aiming easier but in the game they are more restricitive of your field of view than anything else.

I find with the AK74 I don't even look at the front blade, I just place what I want to hit in the U notch rear sight and let fly and hit it (including a bit of hold forward for moving targets).

The M249 is just death in a convenient hand held form, and so it should be the thing is an excellent weapon in reality. As with all weapons designed by FN it is more than worth it's weight in gold.

Some weapons I'd like to see;

AK101

AK103

AK74SU

M16A4

RPD (would make a good competitor to the M249, a light belt fed MG firing an intermediate cartridge)

RPK-74 with the drum magazine

VSS Silenced Carbine (would be great for SLA specops)

M14 Sniper (I forget what the offical designation is, isn't it M40 or something?)

Yeah! It's funny that even when weapons are almost identical to shoot in game, there's some little things like ironsights (are they familiar/pleasuring), sounds or small difference in recoil which makes shooting much more pleasuring and effective. Although it could be imagined that those small things doesn't matter!

I usualy favor (in OFP) AK over M16 or M4, i don't know clearly why but i hit far more accurately with AK. Best accuracy and feeling of shooting i get from FDFmods RK-62 (This is the only assaultrifle to which i've been trained).

Operation french point's Fa-Mas is something that i just can't handle although i've taken many virtual drills and virtual shootingrange excercises with it and even owned one airsoft version of it. I'm just lousy shooter with it no-matter what! So i'd say it about feeling+familiarilty, not cold-hard facts or specs.

Well, I've never fired the M249 but I have fired the M4(A0) and I have fired rounds of different "weight" (grains) from a 9mm carbine and I can say that event though there technically is a difference to be felt, I don't believe a different grain from the 249 would result in enough increase in recoil to render the weapon unwieldy when fired standing/crouched.

Still, I am certainly willing to be proven wrong about this because it is only my speculation.

As I said, I'll have to ask my friend in Baghdad who was issued one of these beasts. Oh and btw, he's got an aimpoint on it, which would be nice to see in ArmA smile_o.gif

The AKS74 PSO will balance it out since the west side have the M4 ACOG, good decision on BIS part smile_o.gif .

The RPK would have been nice to fill the gap, i agree on that.

I doubt the M249 handles like you guys sugest, its belt fed, automatic, heavy and large. Just holding it at eye level and thru sights should get you tired very fast. Its too bad we cant use its bipod's.

Maybe it shouldnt kick that much or be inacurate but you cant handle it just how you handle a lighweight and smaller AR, they should consider that when portraying it ingame.

Yeah, beacuse being qualified on the weapon means we must know nothing about it confused_o.gif SAW weighs 12 pounds unloaded, it's really not that heavy after you get used to it, which is the point of training and reflexive drills. Rifle PT gets the arms and body accustomed to holding the rifle for long periods of time in uncomfortable positions. I know civilians don't understand these things, but that's why they're civilians and we're soldiers.

And that's why some are POGs and some are infantry...kidding. You're right on about that... yet another case of someone dishing out his obviously limited knowledge (heatseeker)

I don't mean that as an insult, but why would we randomly say this and that if it were a lie, for no apparent reason. The saw looks heavy to you, but for someone who carries it on a daily basis, and actually KNOWS, it's NOT. Molding a weak little bitch into the game might seem like a grand idea to you, but not to me. Infantrymen aren't pansy ass civilians, and I believe it is modeled decent enough in game to suit most of our needs. It's pretty ridiculous that so many people argue with people that actually DO KNOW. Granted, I am an asshole, as you are all already well aware, but I do know a lot more about the US Army than you.

5.5Kg is nothing, my airsoft gun is one of the lightest @ about 4.4kg with scope and battery. Some people have the L85A2 which is about 5.7kg with scope.
