Recommended Posts

Quote[/b] ]

HI,

Thanks for your email.

At the moment, we're working on Flashpoint 2, but we can't reveal any specific

details regarding timing and content just yet.

When we've got some information to release, we'll make sure our CodeM

subscribers are among the first to know.

Subject: Operation Flashpoint 2?

Hi

A few years ago, Codemasters announced that they are seeking a new developer

team to make OFP2.

However, there has been no news about it for a very long time. Was the

project canceled?

Any news about it would be appreciated by the community.

Best regards,

That's just BS, they're posting like jobs on their site in hope of getting people.

I don't belive in it...

I certainly hope they are working on it but it does not seem very convincing at the moment..

And why is it hard to believe?

To be honest, I think that since ARMA screwed up in the beginning (the most important time to attract people), Codemasters has a huge chance to exploit BIS's mistakes.

They have the funds, so all they need to do is find a good developer team.

Thats not so hard to do now. And remember photos of a game back in the day that looked like OFP but was developed by a different company. Forgot what it was called.. but you get the point.

All they need to do is release something good before BIS fully fixes ARMA (which will take a while). So they still have a chance.

Plus, the best products out there are as a result of competition. So competition wouldn't be too bad for the community : )

Also, their OFP2 website is updated saying it will be released in 08. So if they took their time to update, I think they at least have some interest in it.

The fact that they have released absolutely nothing lately? (as far as I know at least)

Well Codies better hurry up if they're gonna exploit ArmAs screwup whistle.gif

Honestly, by the time Codies got OFP2 done, ArmA will have been out on the market for ages, and will have been improved quite a lot by patches...hell, even Game2 won't (hopefuly) be too far away by that time...that is, of course, unless Codies makes OFP2 a shitty game thrown together in a hurry, which again will lead to the game being a screwup of such dimensions that ArmAs release will look like a piece of art compared to OFP2 yay.gif

(Or Codies have already done lots of work on OFP2, but decided to keep it a secret...)

If Codemasters release a good Flashpoint 2, i will buy it too.

I have ArmA, and will buy every expansion that will be released for Arma. Doesn`t matter if i`ve bought OFP2 or not.

I thought CM was history, or going thru dificult times... anyway i doubt they have the tech or are willing to invest in their OPF2 for the PC, they dont have anything to show and you dont come up with a game like this over night.. if they dont have anything now they wont have it by 2008 either, personally i am curious but dont really care, a name is just a name even if it sounds good wink_o.gif .

To quote another game

"Time will tell, sooner or later time will tell..."

Does it really matter if Codies is still making OFP2 or not? It certainly wont effect whether BI continue with Game2, so its not that big a deal...

I don't know, I am just going to see it as another game in the market. If BI isn't behind it, it won't catch my attention.

So has Arma generally been considered not to have been a success then? Would've thought it was a dead cert. I haven't kept up with what's going on.

I'll bet it won't be long though before it's all tweaked and tip-top and I'd be surprised if CM could get a better team than Bohemia anyway assuming they're still comprised of the original staff.

rofl.gif ROFLMAO!!! rofl.gif

Yeah, right, nobody has ever heard or seen anything of it yet it already has a price tag... icon_rolleyes.gifwhistle.gifband.gif

Edit: Well, at least we know it'll run on Win98, WinME, 2000 and XP... yay.gif

And it already has user reviews/comments, most if not all referring to OFP and some even ArmA... that's gotta hurt CM... pistols.gif

Codemasters is still licking theyre wounds from the failure of Flashpoint Elite which was nothing but a console port of the original cold War crisis............ and how long was that in the making???

If they are just now looking for a developement team ............. we are looking at a very long time before we see anything....... if at all.

IMO ArmA is Flashpoint2 !!

Does Codemasters even own the code for OFP? Obviously not since we now have ArmA from BIS with the same code.

Afaik they dont even have a team that is working on this so there is no way they can share any information on the current DEV status this has.

This is the current jobs going:

AR2043 - Programmer (Console Specialist) - Operation Flashpoint II

I see they found a project leader and lead developer by now... cool, now they only need a engine. BUt hey, you can earn ~60K-90K UK funny money per year if you join them. So as long as they don't "really" get a job there for the next 6-12 months and once work picks up you can always leave tounge2.gif

+ This release date on Amazonis total S***.

I had my preorder with Amazon for quite some time till it was announced that BIS wouldn't be doing OFP2 but ArmA.

Must have been +2 years or something before I cancelled that order.

Why do you guys act as if BIS is the only company in the world that can pull off an OFP like game. Heck, OFP isn't even impressive anymore compare to other games.

That was true back in the day, but not anymore. Take a look at WW2 online for example.

Theres also a D-day game in the making (was also a HL2 mod)

People said the same think at the Doom3 engine without knowing anything. And look it at now, it runs enemy territory quake wars on maps that are consider pretty big for the level of graphics and the type of gameplay.

Your all pretty naive to think that BIS is the only one in the world to achieve something like ofp, especially since were talking about the future here.

Now that Unreal 3 engine is coming out, the ARMA engine is getting quite obsolete in terms of what it can deliver (other than massive maps, which by the way are useless in MP games since you play in a limited field anyway)

A red orchestra like game on the Unreal 3 engine with air and sea vehicles (which is possible), and 5x maps (which is also possible), would pretty much be above arma in anything other than super large maps (which as I stated above, don't offer much to gameplay since you play in a limited field by default.)

Of course it is disingenuous to assume that only BIS can make a game as expansive as Arma. However, the fact remains that OFP and Arma are two out of only a handful of games to offer semi-realistic combined arms combat, and will likely remain so for a while.

Other game engines may eventually have the same large playing fields and better graphics, but for the most part they don't even share the same style of gameplay that OFP and Arma have become known for.

I guess if you really wanted to play something else, you could just wait for those "realism" mods for Quake Wars or HL2 that may or may not come while continuing to complain about the faults of OFP and Arma.

Does anybody know the name of that Opflash style game that was being developed by members of the Vietcong team?

As far as I'm aware Illusionsoft are still working on it, and Atari is still publishing it.

Quote[/b] ]Hello,

it's very hard for me to answer your email, but I will try.

First of all, let me introduce myself, I am Jarek Kolar,

at the moment producer and leader of the EIS development at Illusion Softworks.

The project is still under development for the publisher Atari,

but we are not able to give you any details or new screens/videos.

I absolutely understand the power of fans and the community,

and we will definitely start to cooperate with the community long time before releasing the game.

I had a lot of experience with producing game Vietcong (and Vietcong2), where we really put a lot of attention to fans.

You may check what we did for our VC games on www.pterodon.com

I wish you a nice day.

Cheers
