Maddmatt 1 Posted December 6, 2006 Well if you view the results of the poll (I didn't vote because I don't have the game just yet), you can see that the majority is happy with ArmA. It's just that the whiners tend to be more vocal.
WeilichderRöhrichbin 0 Posted December 6, 2006 I think I will love the game when it is patched into a playable state. The first mission I tried was the one where you have to destroy a convoy with your Helicopter. The first thing I noticed was that the hellfire missiles are nearly useless. 70-80 % of the time they wont hit the target. After approximately 20+ crashes with the heli I finally destroyed the convoy. Guess what: nothing happened!!!! No target left but the mission can't be finished, great.... I may give my vote after the next patch....
Hostilian 11 Posted December 6, 2006 I like it - it has a lot of bugs to iron out. When they are sorted it will be cool! 2 things.. Dont think it's off-topic, but anyway! 1. Not sure about the new aiming system - plus there is some sort of random inaccuracy when you shoot. ie.. Bullets don't go where you aim them - especially noticable with sniper rifles. 2. CTI (as it stands) sucks... I love the versions for OFP and I .have NO IDEA why this ridiculously buggy version was included?!! (How long till crCTI ArmA is ready?) I know that the Czechs and Germans are being used as playtesters to an extent (before the big rest-of-europe and UK/US releases) but come on BIS.. I repeat. I like Armed Assault and I think I will love it (like OFP - one of only 2 games on my HDD). That is; once the problems have been resolved! #C
Gorgi Knootewoot 0 Posted December 6, 2006 I voted "not sure" because.... I don't have the game and have to wait until q1 2007. But OFP had bugs, and with every patch new bugs came along. But BIS fixed it and every patch was a neat surprise with goodies. Im sure ArmA will surpass OFP in a while.
HitSqdhaXor 0 Posted December 6, 2006 I voted "Yes" simply to piss off the people that hate it. No, really I voted YES because of the quality realistic potential this game has. If people really understood the dynamics of this game and how to CREATE missions and camaigns, they would love it even more. Make a mission, get creative and most of all HAVE FUN WITH IT! It is a game and the day you have to use such "training" seriously may be your last. ArmA has a higher approval rating than the current American president. deanosbeano 0 Posted December 6, 2006 i voted yes i paid Å24 from bontonland and heres what i got for my moolah positive reasons : 1. an engine that cost about hmm 18 month with 6-15 people on Å? a year 2. a chance to experiment with editor 3. chance to experiment with addons 4. help report bugs so the u.k release can be as bug free as poss. negative point i will never let any prog with gayspy that has a profile folder in my docs engage the internet, so i shant be playing mp. so in essence its win win win win lose
johnnyboy 3793 Posted December 6, 2006 I voted a qualified Yes. I am a hardcore OFP fan and amatuer mission maker, and had very high hopes for this game. But the first few hours had me very frustrated with Super AI knowing my position, missions not ending properly, etc. But after about 5 or 6 hours I got used to changed controls, and got that old special immersion feeling where I was scared spitless as an AT soldier playing hide and seek with tanks. So now I like it alot. And once the patches start rolling in, and more importantly the good mods and addons start rolling in, I will absolutely LOVE it. I play COOP exclusively and everything you mentioned fits me fine. CanisDEK 1 Posted December 6, 2006 ArmA isn't perfect, no game is, but we're doing out utmost to keep fixing, tweaking, patching as well as creating the extra content Now that bold statement alone proves the class and serious approach to both ARMA and the community that BIS has. Just wait and you will see. Even though I am not a programmer I can imagine that building a agme like ARMA is a bit harder than the usual cookie cutter games released. Just look at EA with their fifa 98, fifa 99, fif.... well you get the picture. Then we have BF1942, BF2, BF2142 Even thought ARMA is a sequel to OFP it has features like JIP which the community wanted. Look at BF2142... there aren't any grand features inspired by the community. ARMA has problems, some small and some actually game breaking (AI pathfinding). But have faith in BIS... Besides there is no ther game that compares to ARMA and OFP... not a single one. Victor_S. 0 Posted December 6, 2006 Everyone was complaining about how long it would take to release and so they release it early and everyone complains because it has some bugs. Â I have the game and the bugs are not too noticeable. Â Alot of the gripes I have seen are from people who hadn't played OFP too much and were complaing about things that we had in OFP, and then there are complaints because everyone really just wants OFP with better graphics. Â They change the menus (and I like the menus) and everyone says the should change back. Â They change the flight model and everyone complains, and I am going to give BIS the benifit of the doubt on the flight model because I know they will improve it. Â They change driving and again everyone complains. Â They released it eary because thats what everyone wanted, the trade off is that there are some things that still need to be ironed out. Â The game is definatly playable and is definatly fun. Â As soon as mods start being put out the game will jump far beyond anything ofp could do. By the way ARMA for me at least runs great. Â I have the graphics on high, except terrain which is on low because you can't notice, and I can max the veiw distance when flying. Â I can have lag free battles with hundreds of troops. Â It is great. @Mora, who says everyone is returning the game? Have you even played it?
nedal 0 Posted December 6, 2006 I was playing ofp since the first release, went trough all updates and bugfixes, and i didnt just play it sometimes, i played it 2-3 hours every day, played 1985 campaign til end, played a few other campaigns, played ctf profesional in leagues with clans for years, and played cti for years on profesional base. Some guys say yes ofp was also not good at start. WRONG!! Â OFP GAMEPLAY WAS GOOD SINCE START OF OFP!! The only compllains about OFP was about some bugs! Bugs can be fixed, with all the new releases they just added addons and made made bugfixes!! The problem with Armed assault is not the bugs, its the overall gameplay!!!! Armed assault is just crap, i dont care about the bugs, aa has lots of bugs, sure they can be fixed, but the over alll gamepley wont change! the hole ofp comunity was waiting 5 years for this release, hoping to get something wich is even better then ofp, but instead of giving us a better version of ofp, we got this bad game wich cant be fixed by bugfixes!! i have seen a lot of guys starting to play armed assault, being disapointet and sitching back to OFP !!!!! go and see, stil a few hundret playing OFP even they have armed assault. Â What a shame!! Perhaps we have to wait for Codemaster to make OFP2 Â lol
rwillis 0 Posted December 6, 2006 I've been looking forward to Armed Assault for awhile now. Â I finally got the german version and I really am impressed. Â There's a lot of bugs, but the core gameplay is impressive. Â Once the bugs are ironed out, this game will really be something. Â The ability to "go anywhere you see" and large draw distance are what sets it apart. Â Everyone I've shown it to has been impressed. Â I showed it to a producer of BF2 and he thought it looked pretty good. Â He had never heard of operation flashpoint though (or this game)... Hopefully more people will know about it this time. IMO the gameplay if perfect, its harder then OFP, and feels a bit different sometimes. But hey, in ArmA i got that old OFP feeling back like when i first played OFP, and there are no other games who can come close to that feeling. (you people know what i mean, its hard to explain though)
Dekul 0 Posted December 6, 2006 I voted yes conditionally. I think the game looks great but I've run into alot of bugs that make the game very hard to play. For instance, in one of the first missions, you ride in a truck from one point to another, the waypoint was straight down the road and the AI kept randomly turning into some building on the side of the road, stopping for 2 minutes, then backing up and continuing, and once all the enemies were killed at the second location, there was just an order to "wait" at the waypoint and nothing happened for over an hour (i ate dinner and came back to find myself still "wait"ing). And the flight model seems rediculously difficult, a stable hover without using auto-hover is nearly impossible, the cobra has a tendency to turn upside down and crash whenever you manuever, the hellfires never hit their target, etc... The net code seems horrible, even in a server with a good ping there's some rubberbanding of vehicles, at times I joined a server and ended up with 2 players controlling the same soldier, fighting each other trying to move around... Sniping in multiplayer is nearly impossible unless your target stands still for you, no way to judge how long the bullet will take from when you click to when it impacts. (And you aren't able to sight in your weapon for range but that's a feature issue rather than a bug). Oh, one other thing, you should be able to reload a rifle or sidearm while walking (probably even running). You're out shooting at enemies and run out, reload, enemy pops up, you try to move behind cover, but YOU CANT, BECAUSE YOU ARE RELOADING. It doesnt make sense anyhow, I've got enough coordination to walk and change magazines at the same time, but this highly trained soldier I'm playing obviously cant, guess I'll just name him Private Pyle... Anyway to summarize I think it looks good with a good potential but it's going to take alot of patching and addons to get it to a really fun playable state. xnodunitx 0 Posted December 6, 2006 I say yes, unlike some,I do not think that we have waited "five years" for the game, the game was only announced last year. Yes Armed Assault may have bugs, may have lots of bugs. But people tend to complain and troll over it rather than being helpful and report it correctly. I'm not going to let some people sway my mind of getting this, tell me its crap all you want, that is your opinion. I will base mine when I get the chance to experience it for myself. As I look around I can't help but wonder, why would people think the gameplay is worse? Perhaps they have played with community mods for OFP for too long that they forgot how the real OFP is. I don't mind waiting,if anything it gives me more time to upgrade my PC to run it top notch,I wouldn't have it any other way. One of the problems is that people are only thinking inside the box, when I look at Armed Assault I see much more vast modding potential, better collision detection would result in building addons being more important as you cannot go through walls now. There is the possibility of having one, probably not just one but several moving turrets, now when I look at this I don't JUST think guns,I think systems moving, parts of the model,it doesn't have to be JUST a weapon. Ability to make much larger islands as well opens new avenues, not to mention the wonderful 3D water that varies with the weather,no more "plane moving up and down". Graphicswise we can now use normal maps amongst other things, making community models look even better, having 32D appear 3D without using polygons. Dynamic shadows which cast shadows on the vheicle itself and even infantry within them cast shadows, textures show up clearer and sharper. Infantry move more natural, the list goes on to create a pagewhole post if I continued. But I would have to say,the people that think Armed Assault is crap because of its "bugs"..well...I think youg uys went looking for them just so you can bitch about them. So in the end, yes, worth the wait and I'll wait longer if needed (which I know is but it doesn't bother me)
Dekul 0 Posted December 6, 2006 Uhm, while I'm not disappointed that much, I didnt have to go out and "look" for bugs, the found me, 2 out of the first 5 missions "bugged" so that they were unable to be completed without completely exiting to main menu and restarting them (retry mission didnt fix it), one of those bugged the same way several times in a row. Other bugs became apparent just through normal play of missions and multiplayer. Personally I understand that these early releases are basically a beta state and BIS is working on patches, but new people to the game will have difficulties just getting started on a campaign and WILL get frustrated. Dont assume that people are all just complaining to complain, a bug that causes you to be unable to complete a basic mission several times in a row is a legitimate complaint. I'm not referring to people like you,I mean the kind that will bring up the bugs and will whine and cry over them, neverending, pointing it out millions of times and doing so with a rather bad attitude. As for the mission bug, thts understandable but not to the extent some of these people have done it.

twisted 128 Posted December 6, 2006 definitely worth the wait. the way the infantry move, the weapons, the aiming, weapon sway and more are all great. not easy, but then if you want easy a combat simulator is not really the right thing for you. and with the patches and general BIS support. the future is bright.
