Stealth3 0 Posted October 8, 2006 What do you guys think of the demo? There are a few bugs here and there, but way less buggy then bf2 demo. Lag was decreased big time also. And its really addicted. I just played it for about 4 hours + till I lost connection with the master server.
Sniperwolf572 758 Posted October 8, 2006 Played for 10 minutes then: Quote[/b] ]You are having problems with your connection. Deja Vu. Altough, since BF has stepped away from reality, I'm having easier time accepting it onto my hard drive than earlier releases. Kind of a mix of Alien (General look of soldiers, APC's)/Star Wars (Walkers, Transport Helo)/Halo (Majority of wheeled/tracked vehicles). I'm liking the titan mode so far, only thing I miss are DetPacks, because I really love to make a boom. On the bright side, ArmA can no longer be compared to this release of Battlefield. And graphics wise, game looks like a really good BF2 mod, so no points there.
karantan 0 Posted October 8, 2006 I was onto it, but reading that the people are kicked out from the servers after a few mins of playing, that there's bunch of bugs present, of missing dll files, constant crashes ... nah, I'll probably wait till this thing is properly patched up. Also people are like fainting when they see its size (1 Gig!!! ) Otherwise I'm like really exited. Or something ...
DEAD_RABBIT 0 Posted October 8, 2006 The demo of BF2142 alone is better than BF2 in its entirety. And BF2 sucked hard in my book. I know quite a lot of BF2 players who liked BF2 very much, but hate the BF2142 and I am at a loss of understanding why.
TeRp 1 Posted October 8, 2006 I just played it. I'm not impressed by the game, but it isn't that bad either. In my opinion, this 2142-theme fits much better to the Battlefield type of game and even made some fun. However, I'm not able to control those airplanes.. I'm always crashing when engaging or trying to land on the titans. Well, the demo will stay on my hd for some time, but I'm definately not going to buy the full version. To arcardish, although it can give you some fun from time to time.
Stealth3 0 Posted October 9, 2006 Well its way less buggy than BF2. The only bugs I experience is the mech losing its animation. But I think thats because of the server lag. Other than that, no bug, at all. It worked great. BF2 demo on the other hand was super buggy and super laggy, I couldn't even play it. And you get kicked out of the server because there are too many people trying. And EA being EA never prepared for it. I might buy this one, its really fun. Just update direct x, video card, and sound card, and there shouldn't be many bugs. For people who have BF2 I can see why they hate it. The only engine difference is some netcode improvements. Its more like a mod than a full game. But I don't have BF2 so that doesn't apply to me
chipper 0 Posted October 9, 2006 At first I really hated it because It was lagging like crazy. But then I turned off xfire and it ran great. Also loading times are a lot quicker than BF2 and the graphics are alot better too.
dmakatra 1 Posted October 9, 2006 Well, I personally don't like respawn games. I hate them. 5-minute rounds like in CS or certain Call of Duty-game modes are my threshold. But I did try out the BF2142-demo, just to see if my old rig was still being able to play games on reasonable settings. I'm not happy with the game. I think it's too chaotic and too fast-paced - just like every other respawn game. But if you look beyond that, it is quite good for being a respawn game. Sometimes when you air-cav between the control points with the rest of your squad is actually quite intense and immersive. But then you get blowed up by some guy respawning behind your back. I did like BF2 a bit more though, which I also tested (coincidence actually, I usually don't test these games 'cause I always hate them). I found it more balanced and more... "logical". It also seemed a little more realistic. Being infantry in BF1942 and BF2 were actually rewarding if you knew how to play. In 2142 infantry mostly feels like the last solution if you don't have anything else to choose from.
berghoff 11 Posted October 9, 2006 I found the map in demo empty and lifeless...
DEAD_RABBIT 0 Posted October 9, 2006 Personally, I find BF2142 much easier to appreciate as an arcade game than BF2. I have been playing OFP since D-Day (Demo-Day ) and I have grown accustomed to certain themes representing certain values of realism in correlation to game play. BF2's theme was imho too realistic for the game play it represented. And I disgusted that, because I was thinking in completely different game play terms because of its theme. I couldn't accept the realistic nature of the theme because the arcade game play killed the believability of the theme and visa versa, the theme killed the believability of the game play. Because I tried to accept BF2 as an arcade game, but the environments ruined that. Otherwise, trying to accept BF2 as a tactical shooter was even harder for me, because the game play totally sucked at achieving good tactical game play. It's not that arcade games have to be uber-realistic. That's not the reason why I play arcade games and that's not the point. The point is that they should stay true to their nature. That's where BF2 failed for me and I still don't understand why it's so heavily popular. And I also don't understand BF2142's under-appreciation by the general BF2 player base. Chris Death 0 Posted October 9, 2006 The demo of BF2142 alone is better than BF2 in its entirety. And BF2 sucked hard in my book. I know quite a lot of BF2 players who liked BF2 very much, but hate the BF2142 and I am at a loss of understanding why. Those BF2 players who hate it but liked BF2 very much have a reason; The reason is the way how EA/DICE supports the comunity with bug-fixing and how they react to their user's issues. E.g: in first quarter of year 2006 they released patch 1.3 which made the game totally instabil and for some really unplayable due to connection loss or crash to desktop. Also some new features opened the ability to misuse them (like car-drop => cartillery where the commander could drop vehicles onto enemy units to kill them). It took a half year until they could release patch 1.4 which at least fixed the connection timeouts and crashes to desktop. BF2 comunity has built up a big frontline against BF2142 since EA/DICE seemed to concentrate more on the release of this rather than fixing an already sold game full of bugs. Now EA/DICE is trying to move their BF2 customers over to BF2142 by the veterans program, which would let you use your BF2 status to get into BF2142 and so give you some weapon unlocks before other BF newbies get them. I like playing BF2 but i also won't buy 2142 since the real game i've been waiting for is comming out soon. ~S~ CD
Placebo 29 Posted October 9, 2006 If you're going to start any kind of game thread, demo, full release or whatever, put some effort into the first post please, summary, screenshots, link to trailer/demo, otherwise I can't see the merit of allowing a thread here when there are other gaming forums which cover the games in better depth, if the game's worthy of discussion show that by making the effort with the thread please
Guest Ti0n3r Posted October 9, 2006 I've only played the demo for 10 minutes or so, but I don't like it so far. BF2 felt alive and hectic, where this games feels the other way around...

-Snafu- 78 Posted October 9, 2006 It lagged for me so I never really got to try it out, I liked BF2 cos it was hectic in the urban maps and was good fun but 2142 looks and sounds rubbish.
Nemesis6 0 Posted October 10, 2006 Well, infantry combat is still messed up. That's one thing I hoped they'd improved.
Stealth3 0 Posted October 17, 2006 http://battlefield2.filefront.com/file/Battlefield_2142_Demo;70758#Download Before you buy, be aware, the full game contains spyware. I'll give about a week to see where this goes before thinking of buying.
