Get a BigTower, for god sakes!

tounge2.gif

Nice to see that someone buys the 7900GTX, (I reccomended the card to my friend, I will build it to (hope there is no probs with space)).

And, is the 7900 SLI?

Is there any SLI Mobo with 4 PCI-X-ports (wich is needed since each card would take 2 slots each (gigantic fan, as denoir said))

Anyways, you probably won't have any place left for some fanless watercooling tounge2.gif

1 point JW, cause of the size of the case, it's possible that there are some problems of temperature if the computer works too much time

Four gigs of RAM Denoir? biggrin_o.gif .

I like earl's, less power consumption, 2 gigs of ram are more than reasonable for now, 7600GT = great bang for the € untill nvidia comes out with DX10 gpu's.. i would go with something like that if i upgraded now smile_o.gif .

Groan. The E6700 was impossible to get within a reasonable timeframe (at least in the EU) so against my will I bought the X6800. 10% better performance at twice the price sad_o.gif

Well, with that overpriced monstrosity the cost ends up around €4,400 ($5,600). A bit more than I planned, but well, shit happens when the stuff you intended to buy is out of stock  wink_o.gif

Four gigs of RAM Denoir? biggrin_o.gif

Apart from Just Say No To Swapdriveâ„¢, which goes for anybody, I'm running some very memory and computationally demanding software (for work), so I really need the space.

Funny thing though is that I only get the full 4 GB when running a beta of Vista, which has 64 bit addressing. On my XP installation, I only get 3 GB out of the 4 because the last gig's address range is reserved for the memory of the graphics board, the disks, the PCI devices etc

Or the light version of Vista, wich takes 512mb, though, that's still pretty much tounge2.gif

Anyways, I was wondering, is it worth to buy a 4400+ (AMD) with 2mb cache, instead of a 5000+ with 1mb cache (both are dual-core). The 4400+ is more expensive, but is it really worth it, or is the 5k+ higher CPU-speed better to buy for less money?

Working this christmas (shoveling snow, right? tounge2.gif) + saving money will hopefully give me this:

530W Hiper PSU

Asus sAM2 motherboard (M2NPV-MX), supports DDR2, SATA II etc (not SLI, yet that is wink_o.gif)

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ 2.2GHz / 2x1MB Socket AM2 (Box)

Kingston DDR2 1024MB 750MHz CL4 (4-4-4-12) (2 of 'em)

Asus GeForce 7600GT 256MB Silent (EN7600GT SILENT/256M) - PCI-E / TV-Ut / 2xDVi

Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi XtremeMusic

Nec Intern IDE DVD±RW 16x Dual Layer Labelflash ND-3551 - Black

Western Digital 320GB SATA II Caviar SE (7200rpm / 16MB Cache / SATA II)

HP 19" Wide TFT W19 - Silver

And some other stuff.

I might buy a fulltower, expensive but really good cooling and good space. Weighs alot though, but do you guys think I should buy that?

Will be this one in that case:

(Thermaltake Kandalf Super Tower Xaser VA9000BWS)

So, what do you think?

BTW; Screw Vista, I'm gettin' 2k3!

So..I just installed Ubuntu on a old P3 750Mhz 512Mb machine and it works pretty good. This machine was my original Flashpoint machine all those years ago.

So far it has been a pleasant experience. Nice UI, nice suite of open source apps that ship with it and no more Windows viruses, spyware and malware. It is the perfect machine for browsing and downloading content. Ships with Firefox by the way.

It still isn't for the fain hearted. Took me about 3 hours to get the wirless card working using research and unix commands and still haven't got the Voodoo 5 card doing 3d acceleration yet but I am surprised by how much Linux has matured.

I now have XP pro, Linux and Mac OSX installed on various machines and it interesting seeing all the differences between them.

If there are any Linux experts out there who think they could talk me through the graphics card acceleration I'd love to hear from you.

Anyone else played with Linux?

I have had Kubuntu for about 2 months now, haven't worked with it that much, at least not as I had hoped. (K)Ubuntu is pretty bare when first installed, so I had to install some programs myself through apt-get (which works really well), also support for .mp3 files was missing along with codecs for most video and audio format. Like I said in another topic: once they get proper support for 3DS MAX and Photoshop CS2 + games, I am leaving Windows yay.gif

It has already proven it's value though, a few weeks ago my CMOS (which stores basic boot information, clocksettings etc) died on me, and I got an "NTLDR is missing" error, which prevented me from using Windows, so I booted into Linux, which still worked perfectly, and repaired the problem from there inlove.gif

Were Kubuntu is lacking though is in the Application departement. Konqueror is installed instead of Firefox, and GIMP isn't part of the package either, as opposed to Ubuntu. Still I prefer the KDE desktop over the Gnome, which I have also tried (tried both Ubuntu and Kubuntu Live-cd's before making my choice).

Ok if someone knows whats going on please help me:

Some time ago 'something' happened to my PC, after some testing i found out that at least the mobo and CPU had died, and i was unable to test the ram/videocard

So i bought a new Asus A8R-MVP mobo and a X2 4200+, put everything back together and tried to boot:

I get 1 long beep, and 3 short ones. So i look it up in the manual and it only talks about

1 beep

2 continous followed by 2 short beeps

2 continous followed by 4 short beeps

I get no screen at all, it doesnt even seem like the monitor detects my PC

I already tried swapping out the ram with this PC, I looked if there was something between the mobo and the case and did the jumper thing but it doesnt seem to have any effect confused_o.gif

And as sudden as this problem dissapeared, it also came back, PC locked up so i rebooted and there it was again, while it worked perfectly for a few days confused_o.gif

Anyone has an idea? I really dont know what to think anymore sad_o.gif

-Find out the manufacturer of your mainboard;

-Check on the internet for the beep codes, there should be a list (maybe in the manual if you have that) for what the codes mean, and find out what is wrong with the pc.

[Award]

[Phoenix]

Those are the two manufacturers of the BIOS on the mainboards from my pc's, BiosCentral also has other manufacturers listed.

I dont seem to be able to get any PCIe cards to check, all my friends either have AGP or onboard cards, or they dont have a clue what im talking about wink_o.gif

Oh well, thanks for the help  smile_o.gif

hi guys,

i did not read the complete topic. does anyone knows if armed assault will support a DUAL CORE 2 processor?

thanks in advance for your help.

Quote[/b] ]Recommended Specification:

* CPU: 3 Ghz

* RAM: 1 GB

* Video Card: Nvidia 6800 and above or Ati x800 and above with at least 256 MB RAM

* Free HD Space: 3 GB (or more as needed for downloadable addons)

* Software: Windows XP and DirectX 9

I think yes, because, the most part of cpu which are bigger than 3 Ghz are Dual Core wink_o.gif

yes, but i heard from some players who have upgraded to a dual core cpu that they have graphic failures.

The same like ofpforum, never had faillure with my Ahlon 4800+ X2 whistle.gif

But you've to know that it's better to run Windows Xp 32bits with it, because the Windows 64bits edition have a load of big bugs that can provoque some errors huh.gif

But also, have it a good ventillation, because, this could be the cause of the faillure wink_o.gif

I just bought a Core2Duo 6600. $400.00

It is going into my dedicated server.

I would like to get some motherboard suggestions. I would like something that would be the best for running a large multiplayer server (lets just say it's a 64 man BF2 server or an OFP CTI server) along with various website oriented services.

It needs integrated video, an integrated ethrenet port, and I think that's all I need if I'm not mistaken. Also it needs to be SATA drive compatible.

I will spend up to $150.00 for a good motherboard.

I would like to also get some recommendations on hard drives. I would like to get three hard drives. They should be no more than 120gigs and no less than 60gigs. Should I stick with IDE or should I go for SATA300? Is it worth the price? What brand and/or models should I get?

I don't want to spend more than $250.00 for all of them.

I will post more things that I need later and thanks in advance for any help.

Awesome, you've narrowed my search down to about 30 different WD SATA hard drives and another hard drive that is way out (2x almost) of the price range that I quoted above.

Indeed, the Raptor is expensive, but a very good harddrive.

Here are three very cheap for quality and speed WD-drives:

WD drives (250GB) @ Newegg.com

Here are two very cheap for quality and speed WD-drives:

WD-drives (320GB) @ NewEgg.com

smile_o.gif

P.S. The 320GBs are around 100buck a piece, but the 250 are cheaper.

+ Now it's narrowed down to 5/3 drives wink_o.gif

What do you mean "I'd prefer new"?

Anyways, atm I've got an old comp from a friend, until I get new one wich should be around christmas (:D)

So the specs are:

AMD (unknown) 1,4Ghz

512mb ram (probably SDR)

Radeon 9250 128MB

120GB HD

Do you think that one is OK to play ArmA on mediumsettings without greater demands until my comp arrives? whistle.gif

I can't say anything for certain, but a 9250 can only run Doom3 in 640x480 at 15fps with all low quality settings, according to a review I just saw. Even when it was a new card, it was a low end budget card. A half gig of ram and a 1.4 GHz cpu won't help anything.

I doubt if it will run any of the current games in a way that you could call "playable".
