Just liked to tell you all:

Quote[/b] ]

The Academy Award® winning Autodesk® Maya® software is a powerful, integrated 3D modeling, animation, and rendering solution based upon an open architecture.

Maya is used by film and video artists, game developers, multimedia designers (both print and web), design visualization professionals, and 3D enthusiasts to create engaging, lifelike digital images; realistic animation; and extraordinary visual effects.

Is it fake or is it real?

A cool challenge, I got 6/10. (You choose if it's a photograph or ComputerGraphics/CG)

No price yet, but seing as v7 still costs a wallet-eating 6999 USD/7349euro/4899GBP, the v8 is probably somewhere over those prices.

Well, just to tell you.

Regards

JW

hmm i havent noticed my pc being slow ,but by chance i looked at my mobo interface and noticed my cpu was running at only 1000Mhz, its an AMD 3700+ san diego and it sits in a gigabyte k8nf-9 or something. heres what the interface says.

http://img279.imageshack.us/img279/2705/mhzquestionya8.jpg

is it normal , it dont look like it lol, unless its just idling ?

anyway its beyond my knowledge any answers apreciated.

Btw i have touched nothing apart from recently installing cough windows xp home cough.

Looks like "Cool & Quiet" is activated.

This feature underclocks your cpu if there is no "big" application running.

When you start a game it should go back to 2200MHz.

You can disable this feature in your bios if you want.

Well, there no reason to turn it off... When u need it, it will clock itself up again. And now u save power and it is more quiet.

On high settings? ...not unless they can further optimize the engine...

[system specs of the E3 Alpha vid]

(if interested, change the link's "006" by "007" till "014")

Edit: suppose you are just looking to upgrade your graphics card? Otherwise I'd go for PCI-X... confused_o.gif

I just ordered a 7800GS to bring life to my AGP system.

I really doubt they could only run the game at "minimal" detail with THAT system. I'm sure they could have at least cracked it up to medium-high setting. Besides ArmA isn't supposed to be too graphicly demanding right? DX9 and didn't they say at least SM 2.0 required?

Or maybe they thought ArmA's graphics sucked so bad they said detail was minimal? You know how some reviewers say the graphics suck etc...

Quote[/b] ]Excellent, a superior performance--ten out of ten answers were correct.

If you got a perfect score on the first try then you're a REAL genius.

Doesn´t feel like it though biggrin_o.gif

The BMW and paprika were really hard, now off to the bonus round..

and bye bye perfection, 3 tries and still only 2 out of 4 banghead.gif

There is still a chance to "copy" all the data to another hard drive.

Try to get "Acronis True Image" or "Norton Ghost" and clone the harddisk to another one.

With luck, all data can be copied and you can boot from the disk.

Thanks mate, ill give it a try... Ill go down and buy a new drive today.. I guess you can never get too many HDs smile_o.gif

By the way, damn crappy service the place I bought this!

First time i phoned them (had to find their number on the internet, since A4 sized reciepe they gave me only holds their e-mail.... And I want a more direct and confronting communication form when something like this occurs smile_o.gif

Anyway, I called them... And I got to this phone-menu thing...

"Press 4, if you have a faulty product". So I press 4 and wait about a minute with music before the following message appears:

"This local number is not valid, please dial your four-digit localnumber".... What (!?)... Anyway, I try phoning them again, this time i choose "3" for support:

Now I wait around 2 minutes (again with music)... Before the following message appears:

"Press 9 to listen to all your messages". huh.gif

Im a curious person by nature... So of course I press 9 and then:

"Please dial your 4-digit localnumber" ARGHHHH!!

The third time I call them, I choose "2" for administration.. And now I actually get to speak with a person, YAY!

I then tell him my problem with the HDD and he simple states in the most dry voice I ever heard in my life:

"But this is Administration, what do you want me to do about it?"

I explain him the situation, and he replies: "But the faulty device department is only open between 11 and 13". I then ask him, why dont they say that on the phone, and why does the opening hours state 8.30 to 17 on their website, to which he replies.. "Yea, we have been thinking about updating the website about that" (!?!wink_o.gif.

These guys can't even be arsed to update their website... How long time do you think it's gonna take before I get a new HD!?!?!?

Buhuuu

That quote is just hilarious biggrin_o.gif

It´s a miracle though how shops without any customer service still write black numbers nowadays..but since i´ve had to work for similar people my best advise is:

Keep stepping on their toes! They´d rather work your problem out than having you constantly on the phone during their siestas, but always stay polite.

LOL Espectro, sounds like a sketch from Monty Python's Flying Circus... biggrin_o.gif

I've had a similar problem with my HDD, but i've solved it, i just kept pushing mad_o.gif 'till they gave me a new HDD ...be persistent!

Well this is going to be (hopefully) my final list for my new computer

What you think of it?

AMD Athlon64 X2 4400 1MB Retail - Å170.32 (3rd down from top)

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Socket_939_X2.html

Abit NF95 Socket 939 - Å41.69

Corsair Value Select 1GB PC3200 - Å66.74

<a href="http://www.aria.co.uk/ProductInfoComm.asp?ID=20889

How do you think this will run with most new games and of course ofp and ArmA.

Cheers.

Ok to put it simply that system is UBER l337 lolzzz.

That system will eat anygame on the market alive right now.

But I think you should get an SLI motherboard so once that single 7900 starts to strugle with new games (which will be a while), you can just slap another one in.

About the RAM I'd say put one 1GB stick to start then upgrade later with another 1GB stick when necessary.

Lol cheers.

Well i dont really know much about motherboards so could you suggest a good SLI motherboard for aorund the same price as the current?

What you think of it?

I think, you should not buy a Socket 939 Mainboard/Processor.

Better go with Socket AM2. Socket 939 processors will be no more available in the near future and it only supports DDR1 ram.

DDR1 ram prices are going up in the very near future.

DDR2 ram is very cheap now, but will also go up very soon. Vista is coming. wink_o.gif

And you should buy 2x 1024MB ram. ArmA will profit from it.

VR-Zone forum member Coolaler strikes back! He has managed to crank up Intel's Core 2 Extreme X6800 to a blistering 5.2GHz-2.27GHz above the chip's stock speed. This feat was aided by modified Intel 975X motherboard, an 850W power supply, and a generous supply of liquid nitrogen. At 5.2GHz, Coolaler's system completed a SuperPi 2M run in 23.391 seconds. With a pair of overclocked GeForce 7900 GTX graphics cards running in SLI, a run of the venerable 3DMark2001 yielded 82,493 3DMarks.

Impressive as that score may be, Coolaler says his little experiment ate up 17 liters of liquid nitrogen!!

Pictures and results

Impressive score.No comments. notworthy.gif

Wohoo, salery soon yay.gif

Shopping list:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 (CPU)

XFX GeForce 7900 GT 470M Xtreme 256 MB (VGA)

Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 (Mainboard)

GeIL DDR2-533 1024 MB (RAM)__

= 7068 NOK / 904 €  + transp.

Intel really impressed me with there new Core 2 Duo, it even has a better preformence then the Athlon 64 x2 5000+ AM2.

And it's on the same price level crazy_o.gif

The electricity isn't overly stable at the place I live and everything flicks off for half a second at least once or twice a week, I want to buy a UPS cos I'm getting tired of losing stuff when my PC turns off, any recommendations of what UPS to buy, what sort of things to look out for when choosing?

This one here seems suited for a computer system and a little more.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16842107140

Customer review said he got 10 minutes to save his stuff and shutdown.

EDIT: Hmm last time I was in europe (over 10 years ago) they had different power plugs then the US. So I don't know if my suggestion would work for you.

Instead of spending a lot for just one, you could buy two "cheapy's". I have two CyberPower's (585AVR and 625AVR).

I would use one, but there isn't enough space for a monitor+computer+other stuff (6 slots), plus a monitor+computer is too much for it, so I have my monitor+other stuff on one and my computer+other stuff on the other.

Either way, spend some time looking around.....
