Friedchiken 0 Posted May 20, 2006 Not to mention with the small team they have, thats one of the things that impresses me. Are they really working with just 15 people? Â I though that these days games are made with numerous programmers, artists, animators, etc. Â How do you kick out a quality game in such a short time with so few people? Did they work alone or were aliens involved? Well, the opposite end of the spectrum is EA; with their army of developers they still end up making mediocre games. You can pour a lot of money into a project, but without proper leadership, passion, and talent, it's hard to make something genius. That, or the Spanel brothers really came from the planet Cryluk along with Brian Boitano the save the f***ing world.
Journeyman 0 Posted May 20, 2006 I hope they rework the animations a bit though. They seemed to be a little akward, hehe. The sounds effects are A+ though. I've never heard anything like it ;] Nice vid! Lots of info in there even though it's still wip. Â
hmmwv 0 Posted May 20, 2006 I like the environment, weapons and vehicles sounds but the AI... I don´t know if it´s even worse tha in OFP!
Friedchiken 0 Posted May 20, 2006 plus the guy has obviously never played ofp in his life lots of dumbass ai moments though.... I bet AI is better in Veteran mode! Â It's obvious that this guy is in Cadet mode, which explains all the stupid mistakes on part of the enemy (they are one notch below "normal" AI shown in the difficulty settings!!!. Man, now I wish a OFP veteran made a video, think of all the action! Somethings... just so right about the game. Â This game is a guarenteed buy for me. Â Only my crappy laptop will stop me!!! We are so not worthy!!! EDIT: Seems like they are working on the firing animations for the tank commander machine gun. The flash is static for now, so I'm glad that they are trying to make the mounted gun work.

Friedchiken 0 Posted May 20, 2006 look at this pic: Cadet mode AI settings I'm pretty sure that you see AI running past each other because they were nerfed to be blind. The APC crashing into a tree was still embarrassing though.
NeMeSiS 11 Posted May 20, 2006 The APC crashing into a tree was still embarrassing though. Yup, but i liked the fact that the tree slowed him down, unlike OFP...
toster 0 Posted May 20, 2006 If the video has not seen yet, however, looks till present very promising. -> the Pics. I have uploaded the Video from magnumland.com: http://www.bis-ingame.net/dl/arma/trailer/06magnumlandpressdemo.avi 160,8MB (I think is quicker than 85KB/sek from magnum)
kerber.cz 0 Posted May 20, 2006 This might be worth a look too.Note: WIP footage Nice vid, it quite amused how the AI drove thru some trees but it looks all fine though . Good work BIS . Too bad there was no flying a chopper.

hardrock 1 Posted May 20, 2006 MGP ahoi! Armed Assault will feature WWI battleships with 12 turrets! . . . or did I get something wrong?
meyamoti 0 Posted May 20, 2006 Where did you read that? O.o....if multiple gunner positions are availble (depending on how many) then yes it may be possible..consider multiple guns and improved physics, thus making it easier to walk on ships (hopefully even when moving) Downloading and waiting to eagerly watch vids..and yeah, trees slowin ya down was implimented since OFP:E..even a tank would slow down, civy cars come to a halt. Yeah EA has a big staff n all but all I'v seen from them are the usual arcade and a "new" expansion pack which is bull****,then theres the ruined C&C line..anyway. lwlooz 0 Posted May 20, 2006 That video proves that Arma still need 3months of development at least. Besides that, what did I see, hmm: -Brightness -Fixed Aim (It quite nicely shows how one is reduced from a soldier to a floating camera thanks to fixed aim by the way).Needs Removing -Non-Existant AI.That one made me quite happy. Its not that the AI code BIS has is no improvement, but it seems to me that in that demo they have no AI-system running at all. Guest Ti0n3r Posted May 20, 2006 -Fixed Aim (It quite nicely shows how one is reduced from a soldier to a floating camera thanks to fixed aim by the way).Needs Removing If you don't like it, just turn it off.
lwlooz 0 Posted May 20, 2006 You can turn that off? Thats good news.I dont get anyways why anyone would want to reduce his input from 3-axis-systems(head,gun,body) to just one (floating camera with gun attached to it).But aslong as it is optional. On the AI: Before some comes here and calls me a whiner that doesnt recognize how overly the AI will rock in proper settings.Well.. even in a low setting they shouldnt just run in random directions, should they? AI code: Wait 5 Secs -> Run random direction -> Wait 5 Secs. So.. I think we are all in for a pleasant suprise once BIS has a demo with proper AI code in it. 4 IN 1 0 Posted May 20, 2006 how? i mean, it is clear that we didnt see that option in the menu, maybe they will make one later as this is only 75% Alpha but who knows?
meyamoti 0 Posted May 20, 2006 Is it me or does the aiming of the gun (how big it seems) look a bit akward? Maybe I'm just too used to seeing it at the bottom of the screen or smaller...then again few guns in OFP had scopes, least originals..I duno anymore...its probably just the scope, looking good. ^^ Heh..gotta love how the characters voice sounds like Armstrong. And yeah GRAW looks nice n all but they look like they waaay overdid the shaders, like the pic of the soldiers in the cargo..anyway..pretty arcadeish game with very obvious allie/enemy locaters vs a game with vast enviroments and not so arcade. (I highly doubt you can go through that entire city in GRAW) But if normal maps are applyable easily then I am sure the community can make all sorts of things..think about it..AA,what is shown is but a taste of the possibilities, with improved collision ,buildings might become more popular and things to be made,I wonder if the geo lod is larger though.. andersson 285 Posted May 20, 2006 Quote[/b] ]Cadet mode AI settings Look at "enemy units" - "veteran". There you can see that "Expert" is highlighted. If you look at next setting under "Expert", is it "Custom".......?  That would be great if you could define their skill-levels. I hope you can define them to be alert but shoot bad
meyamoti 0 Posted May 20, 2006 I love the dynamic shadows, just think of how huge a role that will play in air units and whatnot,in the video I believe I also saw reflections on the blackhawk (the trailer) Hmm..if they could get night to be a bit more visible and shaders could be messed with to increase strength, then who knows what could happen,ya might find yourself standing outside of a building with wet pavement because its raining and it would show..still..in looks,I believe AA is done,in coding, that remains to be seen, though I'm glad their messin with the commander gunner positions on tanks, static atm but ah well,it shows some more progress. The only thing I'm stressed with atm is the way the tank works, what I mean is...in original OFP you could "turn out" and look outside of a tank, availible in OFP:E as well,in OFP you could go to the inside view and look around the actual inside of the tank and press 0 or V to go into the optics..in OFP if you go into the "inside" view, you immediatly go into optics,I'm hoping they change it back so that you can see the inside of tanks because thats one of the things I loved about OFP...if they don't,ah well.. lendrom 0 Posted May 20, 2006 If you look at next setting under "Expert", is it "Custom"....... That would be great if you could define their skill-levels. I hope you can define them to be alert but shoot bad It would be nice if it was done like in BIA2 (I know that this game can't be compared to OFP). In the game in the skirmish mode you can manually set AI skills in tactics, aiming and surpression (ah I still dream that surpression will be in ArmA). Anyway this video has some nice and some bad features. Did anyone noticed the way player's soldier grabs the barell of his weapon when running and releases it when aiming (in the part when he switches to PK)? And can anyone who specialises in island editing confirm that the size of map cells was reduced? I think it's lower than 50m...
sanctuary 19 Posted May 20, 2006 15:35 : the soldier is standing 15:37 : the soldier is walking 15:40 : the soldier is crouching 15:41 : the soldier is "crouch walking" That confirms a new movement in ArmA
Guest Ti0n3r Posted May 20, 2006 Did anyone noticed the way player's soldier grabs the barell of his weapon when running and releases it when aiming (in the part when he switches to PK)? Ah yes, This seems to indicate that every weapon will have its own custom animation. Btw, that M113 rampage is hilarious
sanctuary 19 Posted May 20, 2006 No, the soldier is "crouch walking" with the PK, the same he was with the other weapon some seconds before getting the PK
