Good to finally see some news. Only thing that concerns me is that they still don't have a publisher.

And can anybody tell me what the blocks down in this

and this screen are? Is it a code or what?

EDIT:

And who is:

Nice that they have improved animations.. It looks like they are the same as in the VBS2 screenshots.

The water looks crappy but I guess it's quite impressive when experienced live. The viewdistance is great.

Overall it feels like a second generation OFP. While OFP looked great in screenshots it had no real time shadows etc. except on the ground so my guess is that the big difference will be seen while actually playing the game.

It seems like my guess June 22, 2006 exactly five years after the release of CWC might have been pretty accurate.

The bad thing though is that it looks like the soldiers still have the unattached hands and therefor you can't make units with rolled up sleeves without getting a crappy result, but I hope I'm wrong.

Mostly it looks very good, though there's also things that imo. need work:

http://www.bistudio.com/games/aa/ArmA_Progress_02.jpg

The bumpmapping on the ground looks odd, way too strong and not enough ambient light, the little hill at the bottom looks like lunar surface. And the houses seem very bright compared to the other enviroment which makes them stick out unnaturally.

http://www.bistudio.com/games/aa/ArmA_Progress_07.jpg

The tree leaves do not look very natural here, more saturated colours would propably make them look better.

The long viewdistance is great though, I hope it will be playable with an average system.

edit: Also, those "floating oil slick" clouds could use some improvements smile_o.gif

"...to seamlessly explore massive environments (over 200 sq. kilometres)"  wow_o.gif   inlove.gif

Highlights for me:

-Reworked lifelike animations. smile_o.gif

-Fully streaming game engine allowing extremely large environments loaded with various special effects. * wow_o.gifnotworthy.gif

-New huge sized battlefield (landmass exceeds that of all islands from Flashpoint & Resistance combined*  wow_o.gifnotworthy.gif

-New densely populated battlefield (approximately twice the number of objects on all previous islands combined).*

-...many different, fully accessible buildings. smile_o.gif

-ArmA s campaign features a brand new story-line, with a modern day setting.

-Updated controls and command interface.

-Built-in scenario editor.

-Versatile object/vehicle animation system. thumbs-up.gif

-Many useful scripting functions.

I relly enjoyed reading that press release. The only downer is that they haven't found a publisher, but it's an important decision, so they have to choose wisley. I know that aircraft flight model has been improved for Elite and it would have been nice to get some info on that (the flight model).

*What kind of minimum system specs are needed to get a decent performance?  Would the 'streaming terrain' technology mean less cpu work load. Can any one explain how the 'streaming game engine' works?

Nice going BIS. Roll on 2006...

Also, these waves look like a 4 year old made them in Paint.... confused_o.gif

Might just be the angle of the shot, and the fact that it is a still instead of a moving wave, but....

The waves aren't that bad but they just aren't natural. For example the "white thingies" (how the fuck do you call these in English) only appear when a wave is close to the coast, about ten meters away. Here the whole sea is filled with them wink_o.gif

Exactly. Also they are just too white. With breakers like on that river the whole place should be swarming with surfers.... whistle.gif

On the graphics I can only second what kegetys said.

Now: "Large, persistent battles" , "60+ player multiplayer (plus additional AI), players can join at any time." and that high VD fills me with Joy.. uuhhh company vs company MP missions perhaps inlove.gifthumbs-up.gif GJ BIS if this works out fine smile_o.gif

The white thingees are "breakers," I think.

Just looked it up and my dictionary says: crests wink_o.gif

Anyway on a normal day they only start a few (10 to 20) meters of the coast except on a stormy day but I don't think that's the case over here looking at the wheater wink_o.gif

I fully agree, but I think the bump-mapping isnt a problem if you walk or drive. It looks weird in air indeed.

Hmm, and some trees look better in OFP....
