Head model/Face textures

Recommended Posts

So long as you get a face that is perfectly flat, as in not turning at an angle to one side it should be fine even if the eyes are off. It pretty damn hard to find a face like that, especially when you're looking for a specific one. I wouldn't mind seeing Putin or one of Colin Powell..

It's okay but the head looks smaller ingame than in buldozer. The mapping and textures could be done better too.

@Major Fubar

It's not the same model as the first version I was working on. I made a new one from scratch.

Looks good, Llauma, very good indeed!

Well, about my face on your head, well, I have a plan... I just hope addonmakers won't compress their pbos...

Let's see how we'll solve the texture part. I hope that we manage to come up with a solution which allows people to have different amount of face textures in the face pool. So those who have only download 20 textures will randomly get one of them and those with 100 textures will simply have a bigger variation.

Perhaps you can share your plan with the rest of us.. That's what I have been asking.

Daniel @ June 22 2005,19:14)]This first one is perhaps too tilted, I'll look for more.

Are there any types of faces in particular you want?  smile_o.gif

Face1

Face2

The second pic would have been great but one side is dark while the other is bright. Sure, it can be used but I want the game engine to handle the shading and not the texture. The first is quite tilted but in general it's better if it's slightly from below than from above.

I am sure there must be lots neutral faces from the front available, after all it's the 21st century and not the 19th. It would be great if people in the community sent pics of themselves and perhaps a couple of friends. It would be good to have side pics too but it's okay without.

Send them to llauma@ciahome.net

Edit: Some of those pics might be useful but I still think it would be nicer to have faces from the community. Most of the pics don't follow the required standards I asked for.

This is what the face should be like, not smaller.

Actually , it is not the head that looks smaller, it is because of the animation.

In Bulldozer there is the default stance of the model, the arm and shoulder are placed low.

On the ingame screenshot, you can see the arm and shoulder that are higher to be more human like (well +/- human like, it depends strongly on the unit model, on non-BAS model the arm continue to look like they are too low) than in the Buldozer preview stance.

It seems the unit is larger because of that , while in fact it is exactly the same.

Btw. does anyone here know how to export models from o2 to 3ds max? It doesn't really work for me. I want to make it really detailed in 3ds max so I can make normal maps for the head. It wouldn't work in OFP right now but I hope ArmA might make that possible.

For those who dont know what normal map is, here's an example with another head (not mine).

normalmap7wo.jpg

The models on the left is really high poly and the ones on the right are low poly but they use normal maps made of the high poly model. The lights and shadows acts as if it's still the high poly model. None of the wrinkles actually exists on the low poly model.

Llauma, export to 3ds in o2 does not work. What I do is use p3d to obj converter (works good for me) As far as I know there is p3d importing plugin for 3Dmax though I don't have both.

I hope it helps a bit.

Thanx.. I'll check that out after I have got these heads finished.

I've found a few new pics suitable for textures.. Here's one with a south european officer look. I also got some asian and african pics.

Indeed, the progress is looking great. That South European face reminds me of an Italian fellow I once knew, I think he runs a construction business in town. Just because of these great head models it seems that OFP will look like a whole new game. Cannot wait to see some asian examples.

p2ms works to get p3d's into 3dsmax, although i had to weld all the points of the model back together after importing into max when i tried it..
