New island in progress

Not true, BAS has objects on tonal that produce sounds, I looked at the cpp of BAS_O, and there are (for example) looping radios, crickets, etc, and they are assigned to objects. I tried doing that in my island, but for some reason the sounds dont work even though i did them the same was they are on tonal.

You are right, but the radios and things like that aren't on the map. They are in the editor available and if you place for example the radio, it plays musik or you can hear something like radiocalls without adding a trigger.

What you can hear on the islands are the ambient-sounds for example like the swamp

Lol you're all wrong, I just made those objects that have sounds. It's not an environment sound, its an object that has (for example) sound="DistantPoliceSiren". Right now I'm trying to get the police siren to randomly go off, I think it's done with having the animperiod = random [number], but I'm not exactly sure what to do.

no please dont do that please. Let that be up tp the mission maker. Think If there was russians invading thhe town do you think many police sirens would be going off? no not really. If there where zombies and everyone else was dead would there be sirens? no. please please let that be up tp the mission maker.

Russians invading the city? wink_o.giftounge_o.gif I think ambient sirens near the worse districts would be cool, but you have a good argument against it...I might leave it out but I just think it would be cooler not to have the mission makers put everything into the island. Also the point here is to create the most realistic city I can, and cities aren't silent. I might or might not include ambient sirens and car horns or I might not, release is still a long, long way off.

heres an idea, maybe make 2 versions. A regualr city version and then a "blank" version for those missions who dont want those sounds. It wouldnt be ard would it? I dunno crap about it anyways dont mind me.

I was thinking about that also, but is it really worth it, like 2 versions just so people can have or not have sounds right away?

I think that isn't such a good idea. I see this from the MP-Position: If u have two different version of the same island, you'll get trouble with players trying to connect. There would be some with the one and some with the other version. So i think releasing only 1 version would be much better.

Again I probably won't have ambient sounds such as police sirens and car horns, but I will have things like music when you go near apartments, ambient plane fly bys (the quiet rumble when a jumbo jet flies above you), and other things that just add to the atmosphere of the map.

Ok for example: FDF mod made thier island "East Border" then they made an exact same one called "East Border (W)" just with winter textures. So why not in you addon makes one map called "Your Island" and another called "Your Island (NS)"? It wouldnt be hard and would make lots of peoples lives happier.

One advice from me:

Would you be so kind to place all the objects and wrp file in separate pbos. I think, if you do it this way, more mapmakers will be willing to use your objects on their maps (if you don't mind that, of course?).

I suggest for the siren sounds you have them positioned on the map, but have a gamelogic or a variable that activates them, preferably a gamelogic since then you could have it execute a full script to run easier.

It's already like that, since I started on the objects before I started the map. smile_o.gif

The idea is from FDF mod, they have a few nifty game logics, such as snow and a MP auto-viewdistance (adjusts the viewdistance according to the weakest client), along with mast lights and aurora gamelogics for use on thier East Border island. Tonal also has a couple game logics, my favorite being the mist logic, by placing one it creates a little mist generator which adds some nice visuals to a mission.

If you're making Florida, you GOTTA have a mall, Florida (anywhere, for a matter of fact) isn't complete without a nice big shopping mall. Make sure you add Dippin' Dots, Abercrombie & Fitch, American Eagle, Hollister, Hot Topic, and Spencer's. biggrin_o.gif
